A cold front will bring cooler conditions Friday into next weekend. && .DISCUSSION...A weak disturbance moving across southern Idaho into Wyoming will increase the westerly flow aloft today across Southwest Wyoming, Uintas and the Uinta Basin today. Have adjusted winds upward for today as winds already gusting to 30 mph across southwest Wyoming and to near 20 mph in western Uinta Basin. Have increased southerly winds a tad across southwest Utah valleys this afternoon as well due to a increasing surface gradient. The isallobaric surface gradient increases to about 4 mb between St George and west central Utah by this afternoon as pressures drop about 8 mb on the west central Utah/Nevada border as the thermal ridge moves overhead. Rest of forecast in good shape. && .AVIATION...Clear skies and VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the day at SLC terminal. Northwest winds will continue through about 03Z this evening then shift to the southeast. && .FIRE WEATHER...The combination of a moderate westerly flow aloft and a favorable surface gradient has prompted the issuance of a RFW for western Uinta Basin today. High pressure continues to dominate the region through mid week.
