Hazard Statement to a High Surf Advisory...which is in effect
from 10 AM Monday to 6 AM PST Thursday.
* What...A large long period west swell to bring the highest surf
of the winter season thus far to the beaches of Orange and San
Diego Counties.
* Timing...Rapidly building surf on Monday, with peak surf heights
Monday evening through Tuesday night, slowly fading Wednesday and
Thursday.
* Surf...Orange County - Monday: Building to 6-8 ft with sets to 10 ft
Tuesday: 6-9 ft with sets to 12 ft
Wednesday: 5-8 ft with sets to 10 ft
Thursday: 4-6 ft with sets to 8 ft
San Diego County - Monday: Building to 6-9 ft with sets to 12 ft

.SYNOPSIS...
Dry weather will continue into Thursday with weakening high
pressure aloft. Weakening offshore flow will become weakly
onshore for Monday through Wednesday. Gusty northeast winds near
the coastal foothills and below passes and canyons will diminish
today. Patchy coastal low clouds and fog may return late tonight
with the low clouds and fog extending a little farther inland
through mid week. Well above average high temperatures today will
cool for Monday and Tuesday to a little above average with minor
day to day changes for Wednesday and Thursday. For late Thursday
night through early Saturday...a low pressure system will move
through California bringing strong onshore flow with
cooling...strong gusty west winds in the mountains and
deserts...and chances for lower elevation rain and mountain snow
with light to locally moderate amounts. There will be higher surf
at the beaches for late Monday through Wednesday.

.SHORT TERM (Today through Tuesday)...
High pressure aloft along the West coast will weaken through
Tuesday. Weakening offshore lower level flow will become weakly
onshore for Monday and Tuesday. Offshore flow continues to
weaken...but there are still some gusts to around 45 mph early
this morning below the Banning and Cajon Passes and in the coastal
foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains.
Well above average high temperatures will continue today...but
with slight cooling for coastal and valley areas with warmest
temperatures not extending quite as far towards the coast. For
Monday and Tuesday...slow cooling will spread inland...but with
high temperatures still a little above average for Tuesday.
Some patchy stratus and locally dense fog may return to areas near
the coast late tonight into Monday morning with slow deepening of
the marine layer through the middle of the week.

.LONG TERM (Wednesday through Saturday)...
Weak high pressure aloft may bring slight warming on Wednesday
with slight cooling on Thursday as the high pressure begins to
weaken as a Pacific low pressure system moves toward the West
Coast. That low pressure system will move inland through
California late Thursday night and Friday with some continuing
timing differences among the global models. This will bring
cooling for Friday with high temperatures around 10 degrees below
average for inland areas and around 5 degrees below average for
coastal areas. Strong onshore flow will bring stronger and gusty
west winds for the mountains and deserts. There are also chances
for mostly light precipitation for late Thursday night through
Friday. Depending on the timing...some precipitation could linger
into Friday night or early Saturday.

140910...Areas of LLWS and moderate up/downdrafts over and west of
the mountains this morning. SCT-BKN200 with unrestricted visibility
through 00Z Monday. Patches of low clouds/fog could return to the
coastal areas after 06Z Monday. Cloud bases could be below 700 ft
MSL and vis 3-5 miles.

Combined seas 7-10 feet late Monday through Wednesday with a
dominant wave period of 15-18 seconds. Highest seas will be over the
Outer Waters south of San Clemente Island. Patchy night and morning
fog Sunday night through Tuesday morning.

Higher surf arrives late Monday and Tuesday with a long period west
swell from 290 degrees (6-11 ft at 15-18 sec), continuing into
Thursday. Max sets will be 10-12 ft in San Diego County south of
Encinitas. In Orange County, 8-10 ft sets are expected along favored
west-facing beaches. High Tides Monday through Wednesday will be
around 5.7 feet between 730 AM and 900 AM.
