Forecast is on track for today with showers spreading in from the
west as a warm front lifts towards the area. Light rain is
occurring across the region. A brief mix of rain/snow was reported
earlier at a few locations in Skagit/Whatcom County, but lowlands
remain in the mid-upper 30s so not expecting much in the way of
lowland snow at all. Temperatures will steadily warm through the

Over most of the waters, small craft advisory level S to SE winds
will shift to SW behind the warm front and to W or NW behind the
cold front Saturday night through Sunday. Small craft advisories
are in effect for all of the waters.
Winds will become more northerly Sunday through early next week as
high pressure builds from British Columbia into the offshore

.HYDROLOGY...No widespread river flooding is expected through next
Wednesday...although current hydro model solutions show that there
is the possibility for both the Green River near Auburn and the
White River at R Street may approach or briefly exceed flood stage
on Sunday due to rainfall expected today and Saturday. Given this is
the first appearance of this particular solution...will advise
future shifts to monitor future solutions...but not take any
immediate action at this time until a more consistent solution
arises. Looking out into the extended forecast...the discrepancy in
the models persists with the wetter GFS solution Thursday could
still result in some potential flooding for the Skokomish as well as
other rivers flowing out of the Olympics and maybe the North
Cascades. The ECMWF solution remains more progressive with less
rainfall which would minimize the flooding threat. The persisting
inconsistencies continue to diminish any degree of confidence in the

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 335 AM PST Fri Dec 28 2018/
SYNOPSIS...A warm front will remain over the area today into
tonight. The trailing cold front will reach Western Washington
late Saturday afternoon or evening. An upper level ridge will
keep frontal systems directed into British Columbia for the first
half of next week. A warm front could brush the area on Tuesday.
Another system will arrive on Thursday.
SHORT TERM...Satellite imagery shows leading edge of a warm front
already over Western Washington early this morning. Doppler radar
has light precipitation over most of the area west of Puget Sound.
With the cloud cover and precipitation temperatures were in a
narrow range at 3 am/11z, in the mid 30s to lower 40s.
Warm front moving over the entire area today. Rain spreading east
will reach the Cascades by late morning. Small pocket of cooler
air over eastern Whatcom county with temperatures in the mid 30s
so the precipitation there could start out as a rain snow mix but
the cool air is shallow and should mix out by midday making the
precipitation type just rain. Highs today will be in the mid 40s.
Warm front hanging over the area tonight with rain continuing into
the early morning hours. Winds increasing overnight with the
KOLM-KBLI gradient up to around plus 4.5 mb early Saturday
morning. Not strong enough for an advisory but could see some
sustained 30 mph southerly winds. With the warm front remaining
over the area temperatures will remain steady overnight with lows
only a degree or two lower than the highs on Friday.
Warm front dissipating Saturday morning with the trailing cold
front moving over Western Washington in the afternoon. By 00z
Sunday expect the front near the KBLI-KUIL line. There could be a
temporary break in the rain early Saturday morning before the
rain out ahead of the cold front spreads over the area midday.
Highs on Saturday will be in the upper 40s to mid 50s.
Cold front moving through Western Washington Saturday evening. Not
much in the way of shower activity behind the front with the front
coming out of the northwest. Northwesterly flow aloft will keep
shower activity going in the mountains overnight while locations
in the lowlands should see a break in the precipitation. Lows
Sunday morning will be in the mid 30s to lower 40s.
Weather settling down on Sunday. Low level onshore flow behind
the front will keep plenty of low level moisture in the area but
outside of the potential for a little convergence over Skagit and
Snohomish county the chances for showers outside of the mountain
areas is pretty low. High temperatures will cool back down to near
normal, in the mid 40s.
LONG TERM...Extended models in good agreement with an upper level
ridge building into British Columbia for the first part of next
week. After a dry day on Monday, a warm front will try and move
through the ridge Tuesday giving the area low chance pops.
Inconsistencies in the model solutions begin to show up in the
middle of next week with the GFS stronger and a little faster
developing the atmospheric river scenario over Western
Washington. The ECMWF has a weak warm front over the area on
Wednesday followed by the trailing cold front on Thursday. The GFS
is stronger and wetter with both of these features. For now will
stay with the chance pops on Wednesday but increase the pops on
Thursday into the likely category. Felton
AVIATION...A warm front will move over the area today. Moist stable
air will bring widespread rain and MVFR cigs and visibilities to the
region as it approaches. The mountains and foothills will be
obscured, with some areas of IFR cigs and visibilities likely to
develop as well. Light southwesterly to westerly winds aloft will
become moderate this morning.
KSEA...Light southeast winds will gradually pick up and shift to the
south and southwest today as the front moves through. Rain and MVFR
cigs are expected near the terminal.
MARINE...A warm front will move over the area today and tonight and
a cold front will sweep though the area late Saturday afternoon or
evening. Breezy to windy conditions will occur at times. The 00z
GFS brings the PDX-BLI gradient up to +11mb at 18z Saturday so that
ought to be a blustery day. Another break in the weather comes early
next week as an upper ridge noses over the area.
