.SYNOPSIS...A weak system will brush the area today resulting in
a chance of light rain mainly north of Puget Sound by this
afternoon. Shower coverage will increase late tonight and Thursday
as a stronger frontal system moves through the region. Mostly dry
weather is possible late Friday through through at least Saturday.
The next system may bring increasing showers to Western Washington
Sunday and Sunday night. Additional fronts will bring showers at
times next week with some snow in the Cascades and passes.

.SHORT TERM...Radar is generally free from echoes this
morning...with the weaker echoes present either being low clouds or
potentially an isolated sprinkle/light shower. Speaking of low
clouds...both satellite imagery and a peek out the window show the
kind of gloom and gray expected for this time of year.
Models in fair agreement regarding the rest of the day as ridging
over the Pacific shifts north slightly which may push any precip
back closer to the border...with the GFS pushing it back entirely
into Canada while the ECMWF retains a little slop-over. All in
all...for the majority of W WA should see dry...yet
gloomy...conditions for the bulk of the day. Models push through a
shortwave starting very late tonight and will be the primary weather
feature for Thurs. System in not terribly impressive...even less so
than previous runs as current data suggests a little less precip.
Friday poses a slight precip risk as moisture ahead of an upper
level trough moves quickly through the area. Neither model is
particularly over the moon with precip chances...but both agree that
moisture will seem to favor points from Bellingham to Seattle.
Inherited forecast has slight chance POPs in for this period and
that fits with current outputs.

.LONG TERM...From Previous Discussion...Friday night into Saturday
still look to be dry with high pressure aloft over the region. Cold
pocket locations will get down to around freezing Saturday morning
with urban areas probably in the mid to upper 30s. With some
sunshine, highs should still make the upper 40s.
Models continue to waffle around with a system arriving either
Sunday or later Sunday into Monday. The latest runs bring showers
into Western Washington earlier that previous solutions, possibly by
late Sunday morning or afternoon. Decided to add a chance/slight
chance of showers but did not go too high on pops given the unstable
models solutions.
The pattern may undergo a subtle shift, if the ridge in fact
retrogrades just a little further west. Models have generally been
too cool in the extended this past month, but it certainly seems
possible that we start to get some systems arriving from the north.
Precipitation in this pattern will not be significant, but snow
levels could below low, currently forecast around 1500 to 2000 feet.
Some light mountain snow is possible at times with mostly rain
showers in the lowlands. No obvious push of colder air to bring snow
levels down lower, but will be something to watch. Mercer

.AVIATION...An upper ridge axis will start to build around 140W
late today, with the ensuing strong northwest flow aloft pushing a
cold front across Western Washington on Thursday morning. The air
mass will be moist and stable, becoming drier above 6,000 feet msl
behind the front on Thursday. The low-level air mass will continue
to be murky, with cigs below 030 common. Low-level moisture will
become a bit more shallow for a time this afternoon and evening,
supporting more breaks in the low-level overcast late today. Some
light rain and mountain snow is expected Thu AM with the front, but
rain shadowing will be strong downwind of the Olympics.
KSEA...Cigs in the 010-030 range will prevail through Thu afternoon.
With shallower moisture late this afternoon and this evening,
expecting breaks in the overcast. Lower clouds could even scatter
out for a couple of hours in the 02z-06z (6-10 pm) time frame this
evening. Otherwise, gusty winds with a cold frontal passage on Thu,
with surface wind gusts reaching 25 knots. Haner

.MARINE...A surface high pressure ridge axis will nudge into
Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington today, with light
southerly winds over the waters. Low-end small craft advisory
strength west winds are possible in the Central Strait of Juan de
Fuca today as onshore flow increases slightly.
A cold front will move through the area Thursday morning, followed
by a push of onshore wind later Thursday. Most marine zones will
have a period of small craft advisory strength winds either with
southerly winds ahead of the front or westerly winds behind the
front. There is a chance for gale force west winds in the Strait
late Thursday.
Northeast offshore flow will develop on Friday and peak Friday night
before easing on Saturday. Gale force northeast winds are possible
for the Northern Inland Waters Friday night. The tail end of a cold
front will move east across the waters on Sunday. Haner

.HYDROLOGY....The White River at R street remains above
flood flow as Mud Mountain Dam continues to drain its storm water.
This will take a couple of more days. Otherwise, no river flooding
is expected for the next 7 days.
A threat of shallow landslides will continue due to soggy soils but
that threat will continue to diminish to normal winter conditions
over the next few days since there are no significant rain storms
