...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 500 PM EDT
FOR SOUTHEASTERN GREENUP COUNTY...

At 426 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Naples, or near
Cannonsburg, and is nearly stationary.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind 
         damage to trees and power lines, resulting in some power 
         outages.

Locations impacted include...
Greenup, Naples, Flatwoods, Russell, Raceland, Worthington, Wurtland,
Bellefonte and Hanging Rock.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

.SYNOPSIS...
Very warm and humid as upper ridge remains in charge through
early this week. A cold front approaches late in the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 150 PM Sunday...

Latest radar mosaic shows some showers and thunderstorms had
developed over the ridges of the West Virginia mountains. In
addition, storms over eastern Kentucky were moving east into our
western counties. Outside of the precipitation, skies were
generally mostly sunny.

The showers and storms should continue this afternoon with
overall coverage and intensity less than what occurred on
Saturday.

Storms will dissipate shortly early this evening with skies
becoming mostly clear. As a result, expect dense fog will
develop in the valleys as well as any location that sees rain
today.

With high pressure in charge, the areal coverage of diurnal
storms that develop should be less than today with the scattered
storms possible across the northern and central mountain
counties. It will be hot again on Monday with temperatures in
the lower 90s across moist of the lowlands with 80s in the
mountains and even some 70s in the highest elevations.

Combination of these temperatures and abundant low-level
moisture will result in heat indices in the mid to upper 90s
across the lowlands. Would not be too surprised to see some
scattered locations reaching or even exceeding 100 degrees.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 315 PM Sunday...

Big bubble of high pressure will be overhead through at least
the middle of this week. Early September heat wave will be the
result, with high temps soaring into the low 90s and possibly
topping out at 95 at the warmest locations Tuesday and
Wednesday. Will continue to highlight the heat in the HWO for
now, but advisories may be needed at a later time.

Thunderstorms will be possible in the mountains around the
period of max heating on Tuesday. Although precip chances drop
on Wednesday, can't rule out isolated shower or storms once
again in the afternoon hours. Of course, with high pressure
aloft, updrafts will have a very tough time punching through the
dry air, so expecting limited coverage only in late afternoon
and clear/very warm overnight.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 320 PM Sunday...

Strong ridging will finally slide southward toward the end of
the week. This will open the door for a quasi stationary
boundary to slowly drift southward on Thursday into Friday and
finally settle over our area. This front will be the focus for
more widespread showers and thunderstorms right into next
weekend, but at least there will be some relief from the heat.

.AVIATION /19Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 150 PM Sunday...

A few storms with IFR conditions will be possible across the
mountains and coalfields through 23Z.

After sunset, expect VFR conditions with only some mid or high
level clouds. Dense valley fog with IFR conditions will once
again form after 06Z. Other locations that see rain this
afternoon could also see MVFR conditions in fog.

Any fog that does form overnight should quickly dissipate after
12Z with VFR conditions across the entire area. A few mountain
storms may develop late in the period.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE: Medium.

ALTERNATE SCENARIOS: May need brief TEMPOs for -TSRA. Fog
coverage in question for tonight.
