Rain from the last two days has caused the Little Sandy River 
to rise.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...


Turn around and don't drown.  Do not drive into areas where
water is flowing over the roadway.  Most deaths occur when motorists
try crossing flooded roads.

The Flood Warning continues for the Little Sandy River At Grayson. 
until this afternoon...or until the warning is cancelled.

* At  7:00 AM Monday the stage was 22.5 feet. 
* Minor Flooding is occurring and Minor Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 21.0 feet.
* Forecast...the river will continue to fall to below flood stage by 
  late this morning.
* At stages near 23.0 feet...Low spots on Route 773 and Jackson Road, 
  along the river are flooded.
* A crest near  feet compares to a previous crest of 22.8 feet on June
  24 2017.

  the Little Sandy River At Grayson.
* AT 12:00 PM Monday the stage was 20.6 feet. 
* fell below flood stage at 11:14 AM Monday.
* Flood stage is 21.0 feet.
* Forecast...the river will continue to fall to 13.4 feet by tomorrow
  morning.
* A crest near 15.1 feet compares to a previous crest of 21.6 feet on 
  March 11 2015.

.SYNOPSIS...
The remnants of Gordon will bring moderate to heavy rain to the
region into Monday. High pressure to the north brings a quieter
midweek. Florence tracks to our east, perhaps close, late week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
As of 1036 PM Sunday...

The heavier rain threat may be waning slightly as some of the
better forcing is pulling away from the area. However, many
areas are saturated with some flooding impacts ongoing. Thus,
will maintain Flood Watch as is, for now.

Did trend POPs downward some for the overnight hours (mainly
across E KY and SE OH). Also adjusted min temps down a few
degrees.

As of 255 PM Sunday...

Models showing a band of precipitation slowly crossing the area
today and Monday associated with the remains of Gordon. Some of
the meso models are showing heavier rainfall amounts of 3 to 5
inches a couple of counties east of previous models. Therefore,
will expand flood watch a couple of more counties eastward.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 445 AM Sunday...

Models have trended faster with the passage of the trailing
cold front Monday, in the wake of the exiting remnants of
Gordon. Rain diminished Monday morning over the middle Ohio
Valley. However, as the system lifts through the eastern Great
Lakes, the front weakens and slows down in the mountains, and
showers are thus likely to linger into the afternoon there,
which, in turn, leads to the chance for thunderstorms in the
heat of the day. Farther west, there will be plenty of billowing
clouds in the low level moisture, with a shower or sprinkle
still possible.

Low clouds and post-rain fog are likely to develop Monday night
in the light low level flow, and temperatures trying to radiate
through the still relative;y high, lower to mid mid 60s, dew
points on a long September night. The fog is likely to linger
into Tuesday morning, and the low clouds into Tuesday
afternoon, as they mix into a somewhat higher based billowing
cumulus. There is also the chance for afternoon showers, even a
thunderstorm, in the mountains, given an inverted low level
trough and afternoon heating. Tuesday night is likely to bring
fog again.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible again
Wednesday, this time about as far west as the Ohio River, as the
inverted low level trough drifts west. However, showers are
still most likely in the mountains, where a thunderstorm is
also possible. Wednesday night brings tranquility for the most
part, per upper level ridging building in from the east. Valley
fog is likely through.

Guidance is notably lower, compared with previous runs, on
highs Monday, with lowland highs in the lower to mid 70s making
for one of the coolest afternoons in a while. Highs then
moderate, reaching normal values Tuesday, and then above normal
for Wednesday. After another comfortable but still warmer than
normal Tuesday night, it turns muggy again for Wednesday night.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 445 AM Sunday...

All eyes will be on the track of Florence this period with two
main factors at play. The first is how far west it will track,
with the guidance envelop mainly between the east coast and the
central Appalachians. The second is how far north it gets,
which will depend upon how it interacts with upper level ridging
to its northeast, most notably placing the system under a light
steering flow.

Temperatures and dew points will be above normal in the tropical
regime.

.AVIATION /03Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 745 PM Sunday...

Showers and a few storms will continue moving across the
forecast area this evening and overnight. The primary batch of
storms will affect the eastern third of the area this evening,
with EKN and BKW seeing thunderstorms. The storms will likely be
gone by 3 or 4Z and will give way to light to moderate rain
showers. Locally heavy rain will continue to be an issue through
out the night. The rain will continue to cause restrictions at
the TAF sites through early Monday, in the form mainly of low
CIGs in the 700 to 1500 foot range. There may be times early
Monday morning when the CIGs could fall to LIFR behind an
eastward moving cold front. Conditions will be slow to improve
on Monday, and we can expect IFR to MVFR CIGs to persist through
out the day.

...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL AFFECT SOUTHEASTERN NICHOLAS...
RALEIGH...EASTERN WYOMING AND FAYETTE COUNTIES...

At 924 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located near Mullens, or 11
miles east of Pineville, moving northeast at 35 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph are possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Beckley, Summersville, Fayetteville, Richwood, Rainelle, Pineville,
Babcock State Park, Oak Hill, Mullens, Mount Hope, Mabscott, Sophia,
Crab Orchard, Dry Creek, Macarthur, Bradley, Shady Spring, Beaver,
Piney View and Stanaford.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

BOONE COUNTIES...

At 1123 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were clustered 7 miles northwest
of Mount Gay-Shamrock, or 12 miles northwest of Logan, moving
northeast at 30 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph are possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Charleston, Nitro, Madison, Jefferson, South Charleston, St. Albans,
Dunbar, Chapmanville, Mount Gay-Shamrock, Spurlockville, Institute,
Tornado, Harts, Chief Logan State, Gill, Alum Creek, Julian, Holden,
Cross Lanes and Danville.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
