A warm southwest flow takes hold Friday, as high pressure exits.
A wet system with multiple waves brings a soaking rain this
weekend, and may keep the weather unsettled into early next
week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 110 AM Friday...

Forecast on track.

As of 1010 PM Thursday...

Latest satellite imagery and surface observations indicate mid
and high level clouds were streaming across the area. there are
also some lower clouds across northern portions of West
Virginia.

Current thinking is that the mid and high level clouds should
continue to thicken overnight. Temperatures are generally on
track. However, temperatures were warmer than forecast in
areas where lower clouds were present.

Based on current conditions and latest temp guidance, have made
some tweaks to overnight temperatures with more changes made to
regions where the lower clouds are located.

Otherwise, only some minor tweaks made.

As of 130 PM Thursday...
A warm front will produce considerable mid to high clouds
across the region tonight, making low temperatures a bit tricky.
Southerly winds will also pick up tonight in the western
counties. The warm frontal clouds will persist on Friday over
central and northern portions of the forecast area. Dry air in
the low levels should help prevent precipitation from reaching
the ground, but can't rule out a few flakes making it to the
ground across the northern counties.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 330 PM Thursday...

Strong, warm, southerly flow continues Friday night across the
area and a frontal zone stretches up the entirety of the Ohio
River Valley Friday night with continued cloud cover. Long-
range models, and now shorter range models as they become
available, continue to paint a very wet picture for the area
this weekend. A deep, strong southern stream jet will transport
moist air from the Gulf into the area Friday night, saturating
the column overhead here by mid-Saturday. Models agree at this
time that precipitation will start to fall in SE Virginia and
the Tug Fork/Big Sandy basins by mid- morning Saturday.

The aforementioned frontal zone stalls across the Ohio Valley
and Central Appalachia through much of the weekend. The
southern jet responsible for upwards of 1.25" PWAT will come
into phase with a strong 150+ kt northern jet - offering
dynamic, divergent support aloft for the formation of multiple
waves along the frontal zone. The imposed circulations would in
turn ramp up FGEN forcing in the low- to mid-levels, which is
reflected well at this time in model output.

Overall, Saturday night looks to be the most promising for
moderate and occasionally heavy rain with a bullseye of equivalent
potential temperature convergence evident, and moving generally
from SW to NE through the SE half of this CWA. Plan on
highlighting this rain threat in the HWO given model
consistency, a recent soaking rain, and snow pack in the
mountains. Will leave any sort of watch issuance to the next
forecast issuance when more short-range models come into play.

High pressure and ridging builds to our West by mid-Sunday and
pushes the frontal boundary East of the mountains through
Sunday night, though the 850 front passage may give the region
one last round of rain Sunday night.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 350 PM Thursday...

High pressure builds and shifts across the North Monday into
Tuesday, drying us out at some point at least temporarily.
Though, models continue to indicate an active southern jet
transporting moist, unstable air into the area for over-running
type precipitation once more Monday night into Tuesday. Given
differences in timing, strength, etc - have chosen to keep PoPs
on the high side through Monday and Tuesday.

Generally, the long term remains active with decent PoP during
most periods given timing differences among models for the
numerous waves advecting through otherwise zonal flow aloft.
Have chosen to go with a general long- range model blend Tuesday
onward.

.AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 110 AM Friday...

MVFR mist remains possible EKN and CKB, until high clouds
increase and thicken overnight. Otherwise VFR weather this
period, as high pressure yields to a light southerly surface
