.SYNOPSIS...
System brings light freezing rain and drizzle this morning. A
southern stream system with a mixed wintry precipitation and
rain Wednesday. A similar system will cross during the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 955 AM Tuesday...

Areas of freezing drizzle continue across the central and
northern Lowlands, along with the high mountain ridges.
Snowflakes are more the rule across the far northern counties
where saturation/lift make it into the -6 to -7C range. I have
cancelled the advisory for this morning across the southwest
Virginia and the Coal Fields of West Virginia where dewpoint
depressions are running 5 to 8 degrees and where there is a
void of echoes/reports.

Concerning the next event...models are pretty well clustered on
how the event unfolds, essentially a classic warm wedge system
with a potpourri of impacts. There is an increasing flooding
concern late tonight and tomorrow morning across ne Kentucky and
the western/northern West Virginia Lowlands. Good agreement
exists on a qpf axis of 1.5 to 1.75 inches of rain. We will be
assessing the need for a flood watch over the next hour or two.
On the winter side of this system, there is concern on enough
ice for upgrades to warnings across portions of southeast Ohio.
We will be assessing the need for upgrades as the 12Z model runs
arrive.

As of 455 AM Tuesday...

Temperature profiles continue to suggest that there will likely
be some patchy freezing drizzle this morning combined with maybe
some flurries as well, with temps aloft on the fence to where
we would see ice crystal growth or support super cooled water
droplets. Winter weather advisories are out to cover the
possibility of a light glaze icing and expire later this morning
and this afternoon as surface temperatures climb above freezing.

We will have a brief period of quiet weather this afternoon and
evening before precip moves into the region again tonight.
Models are still not where we would like to see them when it
comes to agreement on surface temps and warm layer pushing in
aloft. This is mostly due to the fact that there are still some
issues on the track of the surface low up the front. For now,
other than where we will likely warm wedge across Southern and
Central West Virginia, a bulk of the area looks to see at least
some form of winter precipitation.

The main concern is going to be across SE Ohio, where models
are in closest agreement with temperatures. A multiple hazard
event of several inches of snow and maybe as much a 2 tenths of
an inch of icing will be possible. Was contemplating issuing a
winter storm watch in this area, but overall consensus with
coordination between surrounding offices resulted in an
advisory. However, will have to continue to monitor and an
upgrade to a warning will be possible. Elsewhere we will see a
heavy rainfall across the Lowlands of West Virginia, but north
of Kanawha County will have the threat for a glaze of icing or
more, so more winter weather advisories were issued generally
north and east of I64 in West Virginia. Warmer air should
overcome the cold air quicker though in these areas, so the
advisory here is only out through Wednesday morning.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 430 AM Tuesday...

Agreement exists among GFS/NAM/ECMWF/SREF on the track of a
disorganized sfc low pressure system developing across TN and KY
with an inverted trough extending northeast into our area along
the OH River by 12Z Wednesday. Models show that the inverted
trough will cross the area during the day Wednesday. A strong
south to southwest low level jet about 40 knots will develop as
the low passes, bringing warm temperatures for pcpn be all
liquid across the southern portions of WV, advancing north,
along the eastern mountains transitioning pcpn across the
northern WV and southeast OH into rain during the day Wednesday.

The pcpn transition line to all rain will lift north reaching
portions of southeast OH and WV where sfc temperatures are
expected to remain at or below freezing posing the threat of
freezing rain. Although expect brief periods of -FZRA across
WV, higher ice accumulations area expected across portions of
southeast OH. The combination of precip types will likely keep
any one from hitting warning criteria. Therefore, there is
another Winter Weather Advisory for southeast OH and portions of
northern WV and northeast mountains late tonight into early
Thursday morning.

Models indicate QPF values will range from half an inch
southeast OH, to 1 inch over the northeast mountains. This
could cause some minor/nuisance flooding and rises on the rivers
and have begun highlighting that potential in the appropriate
products/services.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 230 PM Monday...

A high pressure quickly crosses the area to bring drier weather
conditions. As the high pressure approaches, winds will turn
more from the north to bring cold temperatures from the north.

A frontal boundary approaches from the north Friday. Sounding
temperatures seems to be warm enough aloft and marginal freezing
at the sfc. These conditions will likely produce mixed
precipitation and freezing rain for extreme northern WV and
portions of southeast OH.

The frontal boundary stalls overhead and then a weak low
pressure system develops along it, nearby northern WV, bringing
a cold front along the OH River by 12Z Sunday. Bufkit soundings
show temperatures will be warm enough to keep all pcpn as liquid
during the day Saturday, transitioning to all snow across
extreme northwest and northeast mountains by 12Z Sunday.
PCPN will decrease behind the front as a broad high pressure
builds in across the OH Valley and WV by 12Z Monday.

.AVIATION /15Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 630 AM Tuesday...

Freezing rain or drizzle will be possible through the morning
hours with MVFR conditions. Ceilings will lift later today, but
another stronger system moves in tonight. Expecting IFR
conditions to develop in heavy precipitation. Some sites will
see will see freezing rain and sleet before changing over to
rain later tomorrow.
