.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)

Upper low across central CA will continue dropping south
southeastward today into southern AZ/CA and the northern Baja
peninsula region by this afternoon.  Southwest flow and increasing
difluence will lead to increasing snow for the southwest mountains
into the afternoon, particularly for the eastern San Juans where
orographics will become more favorable.  Could see rounds of snow
showers for the mountains along the Continental Divide today as weak
shortwaves eject out ahead of the incoming system.  Overall,
snowfall totals look light until later tonight.  For the valleys,
southeast mountains and plains, it will remain dry with one more
relatively mild day with temperatures running around to slightly
above climatological averages.

Tonight...models are in better agreement in lifting the low
northeastward towards the 4 corners region/NW AZ towards 12z. Should
see round of WAA showers lift northeastward into the Continental
Divide overnight which should ramp up snowfall for that area. Across
the plains...deepening surface low across eastern NM will help pull
low level winds more easterly. This should help pull a low stratus
deck westward into the southeast plains and as far west as the I-25
corridor of El Paso and Pueblo counties towards morning. Deeper
moisture in model soundings resides farther east and depending on
temperatures tonight should see drizzle and freezing drizzle develop
across the plains. Don't think there will be much accumulation with
this...as axis of greater precipitation stays farther east
associated with stronger WAA pattern aloft. It will be warmer
farther east as well, with SPD likely warming into the lower to mid
30s early Wednesday morning as a result.  Forecast will carry a
drizzle and  freezing drizzle mix for the eastern plains after
midnight with fog and low stratus along the I-25 corridor after 09z.
Otherwise...heavier precipitation for the southeast mountains and
plains looks to hold off until later in the forecast period. See

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday)

Active meteorological conditions are anticipated over the
majority of southern Colorado from Wednesday into Friday night(as
2 systems impact the region during this time-frame). Then,
improving meteorological conditions are projected from this
weekend into Monday as drier flow develops.

Recent forecast model soundings, PV analysis and longer term
computer simulations indicate that a developing closed upper low
system initially located near the 4-Corners region at 12Z
Wednesday will shift into the far southeastern
Colorado/southwestern Kansas region by 12Z Thursday, before
shifting into north-central Nebraska by later Thursday. In
addition, a strong and cold northerly surface surge is expected to
move across eastern sections from later Wednesday into Wednesday
night.

Initially, primarily eastern locations during Wednesday morning
should experience areas of low clouds, drizzle and freezing
drizzle, while Continental Divide locations Wednesday should
continue to receive accumulating snow.

Then, increasing snow(heavy at times) and increasing winds are
expected to develop over many southern and eastern locations from
later Wednesday into early Thursday morning as 1st storm system
impacts southern Colorado. WFO Pueblo will continue to monitor the
track, strength and timing/trend of this system and issue winter
highlights as needed.

Meteorological focus then shifts to trailing storm number 2,
which is projected to be entering far northwestern Arizona by
Thursday evening before tracking south of the 4-Corners region by
18Z Friday before weakening and lifting across southern Colorado
from later Friday into Friday night. Also, a 1035 MB surface high
centered over north-central North Dakota at 18Z Friday is
expected to keep cold air filtering into southern Colorado into at
least Saturday. At this time, it appears that the highest
potential for measurable precipitation(snow) with this system
should be realized over southern Colorado from later Thursday into
Friday night.

Improving meteorological trends(including drier conditions as well
as moderating temperatures) are then anticipated over southern
Colorado from this weekend into early Monday as a drier airmass
develops over the region.

Overall, warmest temperatures during the longer term should be
realized Wednesday and then again on Sunday, while coolest
temperatures should be noted from Thursday into Saturday.

Finally, the highest potential for stronger winds during the
longer term should be experienced from Wednesday evening into
Thursday morning, especially over eastern locations.

VFR conditions expected today with variable mid/high cloudiness over
the region.  Winds will increase from the south around 10 kts in the
afternoon for KCOS, KPUB and KALS.  The mountains along the
Continental Divide will see periods of IFR conditions in -SHSN and
mtn top obscurations, particularly this afternoon as the storm
system approaches.  Should see increasing snow tonight along the
Continental Divide with more widespread IFR to LIFR conditions in
SN. TAF sites will see lowering VFR cigs until around 07z-08z for
KCOS and KPUB when IFR cigs and patchy fog will spread westward into
the I-25 corridor. There could be some patchy -FZDZ early Wednesday
morning but for now moisture depth doesn't look great enough to
warrant inclusion in the TAFs.  Better chances for -FZDZ will
be around KLHX eastward to the KS border. -KT

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Another storm system will approach the area late Christmas day,
spreading the potential for moderate to heavy snow into the
Continental Divide by evening. Snow will spread eastward into the
valleys and plains through the day Wednesday. The storm track
beyond Tuesday night is still highly uncertain and prone to
change. However, latest guidance this Christmas eve evening
indicated the potential for accumulating snowfall, some
potentially heavy, on the plains generally east and south of
Pueblo. Temperatures will likely be cold enough for snow across
southeast Colorado, especially Wednesday night through Thursday.
If you have travel plans across southern Colorado during or after
the Christmas holiday, please monitor the latest forecasts and
prepare now for the possibility of winter driving conditions, even
across the lower elevations.

Periods of light snow will be possible in and near the mountains
Friday and Saturday as another storm system moves in from the
northwest.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

Increasing chances of accumulating snow(heavy at times) as well
as increasing winds are expected to develop over many southern and
eastern locations from later Wednesday into early Thursday
morning.

Then, next storm system is expected to produce another round of
accumulating snow in combination with well below seasonal
temperatures over the majority of southern Colorado from later
Thursday into Friday night.
