and Sangre de Cristo Mountains from Sunday afternoon until Monday 
afternoon...

.Moisture will increase over the area bringing the threat for
locally heavy rainfall from slow moving thunderstorms to mountain
areas. This will increase the risk of flash flooding on active and
newer area burn scars, including the Spring, Junkins and Hayden 
Pass scars.

  areas, Huerfano County, Northern Sangre De Cristo Mountains, 
  Southern Sangre De Cristo Mountains, Wet Mountain Valley, and 
  Wet Mountains. 

* From Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon

* Increased moisture and slow moving thunderstorms will increase 
  the risk of flash flooding on area burn scars, especially the

areas across the southeast mountains and Pikes Peak region for
this afternoon...with the risk for flash flooding persisting
through Monday across for the burn scars in the Sangre de Cristo 
mountains and Wet mountains...

.Monsoon moisture will combine with an upper level disturbance and
a southward advancing cold front to bring the risk of heavy
rainfall and flash flooding to the burn scars and urban areas in
the Pikes Peak region, and the Wets and Sangre de Cristo
mountains. This risk will be greatest for the newer Chateau, 
Junkins, Hayden Pass and Spring burn scars. Upslope flow on Monday
will bring the threat for flash flooding back to the burn scars 
in the Sangre de Cristo and Wet mountains for Monday afternoon 
with Spring under the greatest risk.

  county, as well as Teller and El Paso counties. 

* From noon MDT today through this evening

  Springs area and Waldo burn scar could also be impact should a
  stronger storm impact these areas.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH WILL EXPIRE AT 8 PM MDT THIS EVENING...

The Flash Flood Watch for a portion of southeast Colorado will
expire at 8 PM MDT this evening. 

Scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue
across the region through the rest of the evening before ending
after midnight. However, with the loss of solar heating the 
threat of heavy rainfall has diminished, and will allow for the 
the Flash Flood Watch for the newer burn scars across the Sangre 
de Cristo and Wet Mountains to expire at 8 pm.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)

Isolated showers are just about done across southern sections of the
area likely due to weak upper lift associated with subtle embedded
shortwave within the monsoon plume. For today...expect a slight warm
up as H7 temperatures warm a few degrees.  While drier air evident
in WV pics remains across the eastern half of the forecast
area...monsoon plume across western sections will remain
sufficiently moist and will gradually shift back eastward overnight
ahead of northern stream upper trof.  Overall, pattern looks similar
to yesterday, with thunderstorms developing over the mountains
shortly before noon then drifting south to southwest through the
afternoon and evening.  Highest pops will remain across the
southwest mountains in area of deepest monsoon moisture.  Modest
instability and weak deep layer shears will mean greatest risks with
thunderstorms will be locally heavy rainfall and lightning.
Localized flash flooding will be a risk on area burn scars due to
slow storm motions...though with activity expected to be more
isolated across the southeast mountains where the newest burn scars
are located, this should reduce the risk some.  No flash flood
watches will be issued at this time.

Tonight...will maintain some isolated showers and thunderstorms
across the western sections overnight.  Otherwise, it will be
another warm night for most areas.  -KT

.LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday)

...Increasing chances of slow moving thunderstorms Sunday and
Monday...

Sunday-Monday...Models remain in good agreement of short wave energy
translating across the Northern Tier through the day Sunday, will
send a backdoor front across the Eastern Plains late Sunday
afternoon and evening, as it continues to move east into the Upper
Great Lakes Sunday night. Movement of the North Tier system shunts
high pressure aloft from the Great Basin south and east across the
Rockies and into the Southern High Plains through the day Monday,
with the monsoonal moisture plume, currently across the Desert SW
and Eastern Great Basin, into the Rockies through the period, with
PWATS progged to between 1 to 1.5 inches across the area later
Sunday and through the day Monday. This all leads to an upward trend
in afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms for Sunday and
Monday. Best coverage is expected across the higher terrain Sunday
afternoon, with storms spreading east across the Plains late Sunday
afternoon and evening with increasing low level moisture along and
behind the passing backdoor front. Some differences in where frontal
boundary stalls on Monday, however, it conceptually remains active
across the mountains and plains in moist post frontal upslope flow.
With the ample moisture in place, along with weak west to southwest
steering flow aloft, storms will be slow moving and capable of
producing heavy rainfall. This also supports the potential for flash
flooding across the area, especially the highly susceptible recent
burn areas, with the latest WPC Excessive Rainfall Outlook
indicating a marginal risk across portions of South Central and
Southeast Colorado for both Sunday and Monday. Temperatures at and
slightly above seasonal levels on Sunday look to cool to at and
slightly cooler than normal on Monday.

Tuesday-Friday...Upper high starts to rebuild across the Great Basin
on Tuesday, with drier air spreading back into the region within a
more northerly flow aloft into the end of the work week. There will
still be enough residual moisture around for isolated to scattered
afternoon and evening thunderstorms, with the best coverage over the
higher terrain. Temperatures will again warm back to above seasonal
levels through the middle and end of next week.

Thunderstorms will once again be possible this afternoon over the
San Luis Valley which may impact KALS with brief periods of
reduced CIGS and VIS. Not anticipating thunderstorms at KCOS or
KPUB through Sunday early afternoon. Winds will generally be light

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible this
afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms most numerous across the
western mountains. Locally heavy rainfall, lightning, and wind
gusts up to 45 mph will be the primary storm threats. Flash
flooding will be possible should an isolated stronger storm impact
the newer burn scars such as Spring, Chateau, Junkins or Hayden
Pass.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

Increasing coverage of afternoon and evening thunderstorms can be
expected across all of South Central and Southeastern Colorado
Sunday and Monday, as monsoonal moisture moving into the Rockies,
will combine with a cold front moving across the Eastern Plains
Sunday night. The main threat from slow moving thunderstorms will
be heavy rainfall, wind gusts to around 45 mph, and dangerous
cloud to ground lightning. The potential for flash flooding will
also be a concern, especially for the newer burn scars, including
the Spring, Chateau, Junkins and Hayden Pass burn scars.

Decreasing coverage of afternoon and evening thunderstorms is
expected to start Tuesday and then continue through the end of the
work week, as drier air starts to filter into the region. There will
be enough residual moisture to support isolated to scattered
thunderstorms each day, most numerous over the higher terrain.
The main threats from storms will be locally heavy rainfall and
the potential for localized flash flooding, mainly across the
newer burn areas.
