The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  East central Otero County in southeastern Colorado...
  Southwestern Prowers County in southeastern Colorado...
  East central Las Animas County in southeastern Colorado...
  Bent County in southeastern Colorado...

* Until 300 AM MDT.

* At 1158 PM MDT, trained weather spotters reported flash flooding 
  across the warned area. Radar estimates of between 2 to 6 inches 
  of rain have fallen south of highway 50 in an area extending from 
  9 miles southeast of La Junta to 18 miles south of Lamar. Flash 
  flooding is already occurring with Clay Creek running high.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Open country south of highway 50. 

Flood waters are moving down Rule Creek, Clay Creek, Caddoa Creek, 
Mud Creek and their tributaries.  Smaller creeks and tributaries of 
Purgatoire River in southeast Bent county will also experience flash 
flooding until the water routes into the Arkansas river.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

EAST CENTRAL OTERO...SOUTHWESTERN PROWERS...EAST CENTRAL LAS ANIMAS
AND BENT COUNTIES...

At 120 AM MDT, trained weather spotters reported flash flooding 
across the warned area. Radar estimates of 2 to 6 inches of rain 
have fallen south of Highway 50 in an area extending from 9 miles 
southeast of La Junta to 18 miles south of Lamar. Flash flooding is 
already occurring with Clay Creek running high.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Open country south of Highway 50.

The heavy rain has ended. Although elevated water levels continue 
down Clay Creek toward the Arkansas River, widespread flash flooding 
is no longer expected to pose a threat. Please continue to heed any 
remaining road closures.
