.SYNOPSIS...
After another very warm day today, an approaching weather system
will bring a cooling trend starting Friday. Windy and dry
conditions Friday will lead to very high fire danger across
Arizona. The weather system will linger just to the north into the
weekend allowing high temperatures to drop down to just below
normals levels. A return to weak high pressure next week will
result in a slight warming trend.

.DISCUSSION...
Upper level height analysis shows the ridge axis has pushed well
east of the region allowing broad troughing to take over across
the Southwestern U.S. Heights aloft continue to lower today, but
temperatures will be slow to respond as highs again reach between
100-105. A Pacific low will dive southward through the Pacific
Northwest today eventually moving into the Great Basin on Friday.
This approaching system will bring tightening pressure gradients
through Friday and a return to breezy conditions this afternoon.
Wind gusts today should remain under 25 mph for the most part, but
will dramatically increase on Friday as the low center moves into
the Great Basin. Windy conditions will develop Friday afternoon
with Advisory level winds across portions of southeast California
and over locations just to the southeast and east of Phoenix. The
strong winds will create dangerous fire danger conditions Friday
afternoon and evening leading to Red Flag Warnings virtually
across all of Arizona. The lowering heights aloft will allow for
some cooling, but highs Friday will still reach near 100 degrees
across the lower deserts.
The upper level low will remain mostly stationary centered over
the Great Basin Saturday and Sunday, but weaken during that time
frame. The pressure gradient will relax some for Saturday, but
still be enough to maintain breezy to windy conditions across
eastern Arizona. Wind gusts Saturday afternoon may peak around
30-35 mph and lead to another day of Red Flag conditions across
the high terrain of eastern Arizona. Much more substantial
cooling will be realized on Saturday as highs drop into the upper
80s and lower 90s. Similar readings are anticipated for Sunday
will little change in heights and temperatures aloft.
After the upper level low lifts to the northeast next Monday, the
broad troughing pattern will remain across the eastern Pacific and
Western U.S. Model spread remains low through early next week as a
Pacific low develops well off the West Coast before slowly
drifting eastward into California sometime during the middle of
next week. Upper level ridging will increase across the Desert
Southwest next Monday through Wednesday as the Pacific low
deepens off the West Coast. This should bring highs back to near
100 degrees by next Wednesday. Models eventually bring the low
track through central California into the Desert Southwest late
next week with fairly low model spread. Even if the low does move
into our region, the dry conditions should persist as little to no
system moisture is depicted among the models.

South-Central Arizona including KPHX, KIWA, and KSDL:
There are few aviation weather concerns through tomorrow morning
as winds will stay fairly light and follow typical diurnal
headings. However, an approaching weather system will strengthen
the westerly wind speeds by Thursday afternoon with some occasional
gusts.
Southeast California/Southwest Arizona including KIPL and KBLH:
Wind headings will remain mostly southerly along the Colorado
River and southeasterly further east, including KIPL. An
approaching system tomorrow will cause wind speeds to increase a
bit with some strong gusts of 20 kts or more.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Saturday through Wednesday: Conditions will improve across the
lower deserts Saturday, though several hours of critical
conditions will still remain a possibility across mainly the
eastern half of Arizona, including the higher terrain of southern
Gila County.
Below normal temperatures are expected this weekend, followed by a
warming trend next week as the persistent low pressure system
across the Rockies gradually weakens. Minimum RH values will
generally remain below 15 percent each day. Seasonably breezy
conditions are also expected each afternoon, though a gradual
decrease in wind is anticipated early next week.
