* WHAT...Freezing rain is occurring. Ice accumulations of around
  one-tenth inch are expected. 

* WHERE...Warren and Morris counties in New Jersey and Northampton  
  county in Pennsylvania.

* WHEN...Pockets of freezing rain will continue into the evening
  commute, especially at higher elevations. Temperatures gradually
  rise to above freezing, resulting in a changeover to rain from
  southeast to northwest through sunset. However, higher 
  elevations will remain cold enough for pockets of freezing rain 
  to continue into the early evening. Precipitation will end from 
  west to east between 7 and 9 PM.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Untreated roads and walkways will be
  slippery.

The winter weather advisory is now cancelled for portions of 
east central Pennsylvania and northern new Jersey. Isolated spots
of freezing rain may continue this evening but for the most part 
temperatures are just above freezing. 

However, temperatures will fall sharply into and through the 20s
near midnight and remaining moisture will freeze causing all
untreated pavements to ice over overnight. Be alert for slippery 
spots during the night. Temperatures by sunrise Thursday should 
be in the upper teens.

  may change to a little sleet or wet snow this evening. Plan on
  encountering slippery stretches of travel. Total ice
  accumulations of up to two-tenths inch are expected. Little or 
  no additional sleet accumulation is expected.

* WHERE...Sussex county in New Jersey and Carbon and Monroe 
  counties in Pennsylvania. 

* WHEN...Freezing rain will occasionally mix with sleet or snow
  through the early evening, primarily along the ridges above 1000
  feet in elevation across the northern portions of the counties.
  Meanwhile, freezing rain will change be mainly plain rain at
  lower elevations through early this evening. A brief change 
  back to snow is possible before ending from west to east this 
  evening between 7 and 9 PM.

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure centered off the Middle Atlantic coast early this
morning will drift out to sea. A cold front approaching from
the west is forecast to arrive this afternoon. Another area of
high pressure is expected to build from the Great Lakes into New
England tonight. Low pressure is anticipated to move from the
southern and central Appalachians on Wednesday morning to the
Canadian Maritime Provinces on Wednesday night. High pressure
should follow from the west for Thursday and Friday. Additional
cold fronts are expected on Friday night and Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Cloudy conditions continue across the area this morning into
this afternoon as a short wave/vorticity impulse is moving
through. Any snow flurries that were associated with the short
wave will be exiting the area this morning, and a dry forecast
is expected for the remainder of the day. Skies may begin to
clear out some later this afternoon, but likely won't go
completely cloudless.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM WEDNESDAY/...
High pressure briefly re-establishes itself this evening before
retreating to the north and east overnight as the next system
approaches. This next system will be a fairly moisture laden low
that will move from eastern Texas north and east to a position
near eastern Tennessee by Wednesday morning. Clouds will thicken
up overnight ahead of this system and its associated warm front
meaning once again lows may occur early before temps nudge up
overnight. Generally looking at lows in the 20s to low 30s
except upper teens across the southern Poconos. There are some
model differences regarding the details of exactly when precip
arrives but this generally looks to occur near 12z Wednesday so
we begin to ramp up POPs near dawn. Track of low will favor
mixed precipitation (snow, sleet, freezing rain) initially
developing near the I-95 corridor with mainly rain farther south
and east and mainly snow to start north and west. Bulk of the
event occurs during Wednesday so for further details, please see
below.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
The focus for the long term is on two storm systems that are
expected to bring widespread moderate precip to the region with
the first round on Wednesday and the second round late in the
weekend.

Wednesday and Wednesday night...The first low is expected to
track to the NE along a warm front, eventually passing through
the northern Mid-Atlantic states Wednesday afternoon-evening.
Models have converged toward an I-95 storm track across our
area, which signals a general wintry mix as well as introduces a
plethora of ptype questions given the complexity of the setup.

The pattern is not too dissimilar to what we saw on Sunday
although the air mass leading up to the next event looks to be
initially colder. Accordingly, precip will likely begin as snow
near and north of the Mason-Dixon line before warmer air aloft
moves in and causes a changeover to sleet/freezing and
eventually to rain. The transition to a wintry mix and then to
rain will likely occur rather quickly Wednesday morning in the
coastal plain and I-95 corridor. Even though snow and ice
accumulations are currently forecast to be minor for the I-95
corridor, the timing of the wintry mix being coincident with the
morning commute could maximize travel impacts. After the
transition to rain occurs later Wednesday morning, rainfall
amounts of one-half to one inch through Wednesday evening could
potential cause minor, poor-drainage flooding.

The potential to see a longer duration of snow, sleet and
freezing (as well as higher accumulations) increase quickly the
farther N/W you travel given the most likely track of the 850 mb
and surface lows. The greatest forecast uncertainty lies in the
area from roughly the Fall Line, northward to the I-80
corridor, where any small shifts in the track from the current
forecast could yield significant changes to the forecast (ptype
and snow/ice accumulations). There is a Winter Storm Watch for
our far northern counties along/north of I-80 and west of I-287
(Carbon and Monroe Counties in NE PA and for Sussex County in
far NW NJ) with at least the potential for 4-7 inches of
snow/sleet and around one tenth inch of ice.

Precipitation should end rather quickly from NW to SE Wednesday
night once the low tracks northeastward into New England.

Thursday...High pressure builds in from the west. The pressure
gradient between this high and low pressure offshore will yield
a brisk NW wind with gusts 20-25 mph expected. Temperatures will
struggle to rise during the day as CAA offsets daytime heating.
Highs on Thursday range from the mid 20s in the southern
Poconos to the mid 30s along and east of I-95 (8-12F below
climo).

Friday...A weak cold front approaches from the northwest on
Friday. A band of light snow could develop across the northern
tier (primarily north of I-78) but with the deeper forcing
associated with a northern stream shortwave trough passing well
to our north, PoPs were limited to 20-30 percent.

Saturday and Sunday...Yet another storm system is expected to
organize over the southern Plains early in the weekend and then
move northeastward. Similar to the last two systems, the surface
low likely takes an inland track, possibly even farther N/W
than the predecessor storms. Accordingly, rain is generally
favored from the I-95 Corridor S/E with a period of a wintry mix
along with some rain N/W but it is still too far out to say
with much certainty.

.AVIATION /16Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...Overcast skies are in place and will remain for the
remainder of the morning into this afternoon. Most sites have
started off VFR, but CIGS are lowering to MVFR.

Tonight...Clouds increase but conditions should stay mainly VFR
except for KRDG and KILG as precip likely arrives just before
12z bringing MVFR conditions. Expect mainly snow to start at
KRDG with mixed precipitation at KILG which could include some
freezing rain. For remaining sites, precip should hold off until
after 12z.

OUTLOOK...

Wednesday...Conditions lowering to IFR in precipitation. Rain
is expected at KACY and KMIV. An early morning wintry mix should
change to rain at KILG, KPHL, KPNE and KTTN. Snow in the
morning is expected to transition to a wintry mix, then to rain
at KABE and KRDG in the afternoon. Accumulating snow and ice is
possible at KABE and KRDG.

Wednesday night...Conditions improving to MVFR and VFR with the
precipitation ending in the evening.

Thursday through Friday night...Mainly VFR.

Saturday...MVFR and IFR conditions are possible. A chance of
snow changing to rain at KABE and KRDG. MVFR and IFR conditions
are possible.

.MARINE...
Winds and seas will remain below Small Craft Advisory levels
through tonight. A mix of rain and snow could arrive as early
as late tonight bringing some visibility restrictions.

OUTLOOK...
Wednesday...A Small Craft Advisory is in effect on our ocean
waters for an east to south wind gusting to 25 knots and for
wave heights building to 5 to 6 feet.

Wednesday night...A Small Craft Advisory is in effect on our
ocean waters and on Delaware Bay for a southwest to northwest
wind gusting to 30 knots.

Thursday morning...A northwest wind may gust near 25 knots.

Thursday afternoon through Saturday...No marine headlines are
anticipated.
