.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure builds in from the west tonight, then moves offshore
on Sunday. Several cold fronts will pass through the region through
the mid-week period. High pressure returns to close out the week,
then another cold front may approach for the weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
915 pm update: Forecast is in good shape, and only minor edits
to hourly temperatures and dew points were required tonight.
Temperatures are already near/below 40 degrees in the Poconos
and far northwest New Jersey and are approaching these values in
the Pine Barrens. Frost advisory is unchanged, but it is not out
of the question to see some frost in portions of the Pine
Barrens and more rural locations just south of the current
advisory.

Previous discussion...

The shortwave trof which brought some light rain to the area this
morning has now moved offshore, and strong subsidence behind it has
cleared out the mid and high level cloudiness. Low-level strato-cu
persists this afternoon in the somewhat moist boundary layer, mixed
by NW winds 10 to 20 kt. These clouds should dissipate by around
sunset or shortly thereafter.

Overnight, high pressure now over the Ohio Valley will build east
into the mid-Atlantic region. The high center is forecast to be more
or less right over the forecast area by sunrise. The net result will
be mostly clear skies and diminishing winds overnight. These
conditions will support substantial radiational cooling, wind
forecast lows ranging from the low to mid 30s over northwest NJ
and the Poconos to the low 40s in northern Delmarva. It will
also be slightly warmer near the Atlantic and Delaware Bay
shores, and along the ILG-PHL-TTN urban corridor. Frost is
possible in the coldest areas farthest north, so the frost
advisory remains in place.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/...
On Sunday the center of the surface high should move off the mid-
Atlantic coast bringing a return to light SSW winds. Some high and
mid-level cloudiness from the remnants of Sergio, now over the
southern plains and mid-Miss. valley, will affect the area during
the day. However the lower atmosphere should remain fairly dry so no
rain is expected. Some low level warm advection is forecast to
develop, and the afternoon highs should be a bit warmer than today,
especially south and east of I-95.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
High pressure continues to drift out to sea Sunday night as a deep
upper trough digs into the central U.S. with a strong cold front out
ahead of it. Weak low pressure develops over the Tennessee and Ohio
Valleys along that frontal boundary, and that low will lift a warm
front north through the region as the low tracks to the north and
east into eastern Canada Sunday night into Monday morning. The cold
front cross the region Monday night, and then the upper trough
becomes situated over the Northeast on Tuesday.

Several strong shortwaves will rotate around the base of the trough
during this time, and a cold front develops with each passing
shortwave. This will keep unsettled weather in the forecast from
Sunday night through Tuesday night. It will not rain during that
whole time, but the most rain will probably occur on Monday and
Monday night.

With the region in the warm sector on Monday, highs range from the
50s in the southern Poconos, to generally in the mid 60s for areas
north and west of the Fall Line, and in the upper 60s to lower 70s
for most of southern NJ, southeast PA, and most of Delmarva.
Southern Delmarva may warm into the upper 70s. Conditions may become
unsettled enough for a few thunderstorms in Delmarva, but will leave
that out of the forecast for now.

The cold front becomes nearly stationary south of Delmarva for the
mid-week period, and several shortwaves may interact with the
boundary to touch off some showers over far southern zones. CAA
behind the cold front returns high temperatures to the 50s and low
60s on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the coldest day looks to be
Thursday as the upper trough begins to pull away, as highs will be
in the 40s across the southern Poconos and northern NJ, and
otherwise in the low to mid 50s. Low temperatures at night will be
in the 30s and 40s, and temperatures may approach freezing in the
southern Poconos and northern NJ Wednesday night and Thursday night.

Surface high pressure builds into the central U.S later in the week,
and the high slowly builds to the south and east and moves off the
Mid-Atlantic coast on Friday. Temperatures rebound a bit, but remain
below normal. Another cold front approaches for next weekend.

.AVIATION /02Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...VFR with light and variable winds. High confidence.

Sunday...VFR with increasing mid and high cloudiness. Light
southwesterly winds. High confidence.

Outlook...

Sunday night...Mainly VFR. Light winds, becoming S less than 10 kt.

Monday...Mainly VFR conditions expected. A cold front will cross the
terminals. MVFR or lower conditions possible in scattered showers.
Southwest winds around 5-10 kt.

Monday night...Scattered showers with MVFR conditions or lower
possible, otherwise, VFR. SW winds 5-10 kt, becoming NW 10-15 kt
late.

Tuesday...Mainly VFR conditions expected. A chance for some showers,
mainly at KMIV and KACY, in the morning. W-NW winds 10 kt or less.

Wednesday through Thursday...Mainly VFR conditions expected. West
winds around 10 to 20 knots with higher gusts possible. Light winds
at night.

.MARINE...
Sub SCA conditions are expected across all our forecast waters
through tonight and Sunday. However, NW winds may gust to around 20
kt late this afternoon into this evening, as high pressure builds in
from the west. As the high moves offshore on Sunday, winds
should become light southwesterly in the afternoon. Seas should
continue between 2 and 3 feet.

Outlook...

Sunday night...Sub-SCA conditions expected with high pressure over
the waters and moving out to sea.

Monday through Tuesday...Southwest winds will increase on the waters
with gusts around 25 to 30 knots. Winds will diminish late Monday
through mid morning on Tuesday. Seas may approach 5 feet on Monday.
A Small Craft Advisory will likely be needed.

Wednesday through Thursday...West to northwest winds will increase
on the area waters with gusts around 25 to 30 knots. A Small Craft
Advisory may be needed again for Wednesday and Thursday.
