The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Coastal
Flood Warning, which is in effect until 6 PM EST this evening.
The Coastal Flood Advisory is no longer in effect.
* LOCATIONS...Coastal areas adjacent to Chesapeake Bay in
northeast Maryland.
* COASTAL FLOODING...Moderate flooding is anticipated with the
upcoming high tide.
* TIMING....High tide at Cambridge is around 8 am. and at
Tolchester it is a little after 11 am.
* IMPACTS....Roadways flooding is expected. Some roads will be
closed due to high water.
Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.

* COASTAL FLOODING...Minor flooding is anticipated around the
time of the midday high tide on Wednesday.
* TIMING....High tide on the oceanfront occurs between 11:00 AM
and 12:00 PM Wednesday. High tide on the back bays and on
Raritan Bay occurs later than the high tide on the oceanfront.
* IMPACTS....Roadways flooding is expected. Some roads will be
closed due to high water. A long period easterly swell will
continue to cause additional beach erosion.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor Tidal flooding often results in some road
closures. Usually...the most vulnerable roadways will flood.
Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The

...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING IS CANCELLED...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has cancelled the
Coastal Flood Warning.
Water levels are recedeing after this morning's high tide in the
upper Chesapeake Bay. With a north wind, if any additional
flooding occurs with the next high tide, it is expected to be
minor and spotty in areal extent. The Coastal Flood Warning has
therefore been cancelled.

.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will deepen while moving along the coast today and
then up into the New England region tonight. An upper low and
weak surface ridge will affect the weather Thursday and into
Saturday. The ridge will weaken Saturday night. Low pressure
may develop along the East Coast early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Latest models have come in with higher QPF amounts today and have
also trended colder. 00Z/07 NAM and GFS in good agreement in terms
of timing and placement of the surface low as it tracks north along
the coast today. ECMWF is a bit to the east of the NAM and GFS, but
still has good placement and is not too far off. Latest RGEM
trending colder with more in the way of accumulating snow south and
east of I-95, and this trend shows with the NAM, GFS, and even the
latest hi-res short term models, such as the HRRR-X.
As a result, have increased snow totals pretty much throughout the
forecast area. This yields up to 20 inches of snow in far northwest
NJ, and 10-16 inches across the southern Poconos, Lehigh Valley, and
into much of northern NJ. Approaching I-95, towards Trenton to
Philadelphia, and into southeast PA, a general 8-12 inches of snow
is expected. A swath of 4-6 inches of snow is now expected along the
I-95 corridor from around Monmouth County south towards northern
portions of the Delmarva.
Areas that were under Winter Weather Advisories have been upgraded
to Winter Storm Warnings, and Winter Weather Advisories have been
issued for central portions of the Delmarva, parts of southeast NJ,
and even hoisted a Winter Weather Advisory for coastal Monmouth
county as snow will accumulate later this afternoon. There may be a
brief period of mixing east of I-95 that inhibits accumulations as
well.
MET/MAV MOS guidance were too warm for max temps this afternoon, and
this is probably due to temps going into the early morning hours.
Used a blend of NAM/GFS 2-M temps for highs generally in the low to
mid 30s north and west of the Fall Line, and in the mid to upper 30s
most elsewhere and in the low 40s approaching coastal NJ and
southern portions of the Delmarva.
Closer to southeast NJ and southern portions of the Delmarva,
temperatures will be warm enough for generally all rain, and locally
heavy rain is possible at times this afternoon. In addition, with
weak mid level CAPE sliding along the coast, a few embedded
thunderstorms are possible. Will introduce slight chance for thunder
for mainly coastal areas this afternoon.
Tight pressure gradient, combined with strong LLJ, will result in
increasing easterly flow this afternoon, ranging from 15-25 mph with
25-35 mph gusts for much of southeast NJ and into the Delmarva. The
strongest winds will be right along the coast, and this onshore flow
will result in tidal flooding later today. The Tides/Coastal
Flooding section below has more information.
Winds farther inland will not be as strong.
Given temperatures will be in the upper 20s to low 30s, this is
expected to be a heavy, wet snow that will result in tree and power
line damage leading to power outages.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM THURSDAY/...
Precip tapers off as snow from south to north as surface low tracks
from just off the NJ coast towards eastern Long Island. Some
lingering warp around precip may persist through the overnight hours
across the southern Poconos.
Winds turn NW at 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph due to the tight
pressure gradient between the departing low and high pressure
building in from the west.
Lows tonight will be in the 20s to low 30s.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
We took a abbreviated look at the long term part of the fcst
overnight since we had to spend more time with the shorter term
aspects of the overall weather situation.
Mostly dry weather is expected for Thursday thru Saturday although
there is a chance for a few snow showers across the southern Poconos
and northern New Jersey. Temperatures will be below normal,
especially considering the snow cover that will be in place in many
of the N/W areas during the period.
Another short wave is expected to rotate around the upper low and
bring the possibility for another wintry system along the coast
late this weekend or early next week. The 00Z operational models
are all over the place, so confid is low regarding the
possibility of any significant weather attm. The CMC seems to
be the most amped up with the GFS strong but suppressed. The EC
forms the low well south and takes it out to sea w/out affecting
our area. We simplified the grids to align with neighboring
offices and mostly just kept the chc pops in there for now.
Again, temperatures will mostly be 2 to 5 degrees below normal
into next week.

.AVIATION /09Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
High impact coastal storm today with an area of heavy snow.
Today...IFR/LIFR. Snow at KABE/KRDG. Mainly snow with some brief
periods of mixing possible at KTTN/KPNE/KPHL/KILG, though precip
should generally be all snow. For KMIV, mostly snow, then a wintry
mix, changing to snow late. For KACY, mostly rain. East winds,
become NE 15-20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt throughout the terminals,
though winds may be up to 5 kt higher at KACY.
Tonight...Conditions gradually improve to VFR as snow tapers off
from south to north. Winds shift NW 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 25
kt.
OUTLOOK...
Thursday thru Saturday night...Mostly VFR. Few snow showers far
N/W.
Sunday...Mostly VFR. Restrictions psbl far S with -sn/-ra psbl.

Coastal storm lifts along the NJ coast today then heads out to sea
tonight. East winds become Gale Force by late morning, and gales
continue through this evening as winds shift to the northwest behind
the departing low. For Delaware Bay, the strongest winds will occur
in the afternoon, and end in the evening. Small Craft Advisories may
be needed for DE Bay when the gales end. For the ocean, gales may
continue for much of the overnight.
Peak winds should top out at 45 kt.
OUTLOOK...
Thu thru Fri night...SCA conditions expected.

.HYDROLOGY...
Another event on the way with 1.00-1.50 inches of liquid. But as
mentioned above, current thinking is that the precipitation will be
more in the form of snow or sleet rather than rain. This will
definitely slow down the runoff process and help limit a flooding
threat.
But some NJ gages need to be watched closely. This area is forecast
to be the battle zone between rain and snow. If we get more rain
than currently forecast, I would say, the Rancocas, Raritan, and
Passaic basins are underdone, meaning the going crests are not high
enough. Updates for these gauges will be out tomorrow morning.
Otherwise, with the grounds saturated, poor drainage and low-lying
flooding will occur where the heaviest rains occur, and that should
be along the coast.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Tides continue to run high in many areas and the onshore flow
and low pressure moving by today will keep this pattern active.
Basically we have CFW advisories for minor tidal flooding (for
.3 or more ft above FS) for the present and upcoming high
tides. The product for the Delaware River and upper Delaware Bay
continues to 8 am. this morning while other areas have it out
thru the following high tide...mostly 6 pm. It will probably be
needed to be extended in the Delaware Bay and Delaware River
for the following cycle also. Low confid fcst overall.

This is the first installment of todays major wet snow storm. Near the coast, warmer temperatures were assisting melting the snow on pavement or changing the snow to rain. Precipitation should lighten up for a couple of hours around dawn. Be alert for slippery slushy stretches both on roads, sidewalks and steps. Then soon after sunrise, the main storm begins, with heavier precipitation developing steadily northward. Snowfall rates of 2 inches an hour are expected at times from late this morning through much of the afternoon across eastern Pennsylvania and the western and northern parts of New Jersey. Heavy snow is also possible to develop down into Cecil County of northeast Maryland and the northern part of New Castle County Delaware including Wilmington, especially this afternoon. This will become a dangerous wet snow storm for eastern Pennsylvania and much of northern and western New Jersey. Snow, at varying and generally light rates will continue a little while longer over east central and northeast Pennsylvania and much of northern New Jersey. There might be a little rain mixed in but mostly in urban centers near Interstate 78. Then late this morning and afternoon, bands of very heavy snow with rates of nearly 2 inches an hour will develop across the area. This will suddenly turn wet pavement into slush and then eventually into nearly impassable travel on all unplowed roads by late afternoon, especially in the hills. Visibility will be reduced at times to about a quarter mile and northerly winds will become gusty. This is when branches may break or some trees uproot, especially south of Interstate 80 where temperatures should be hovering near 32 degrees. The result would be renewed power outages. For safety, plan to be wherever you wish to be for 12 to 24 hours, no later than mid morning. The storm ends this evening and presuming road crews can clear the roads, a sense of normalcy should return by Thursday afternoon, barring the loss of power. Snowfall rates should increase to around an 1 inch an hour for several hours before the storm tapers off this evening.
