...BREEZY WITH VERY LOW HUMIDITY OVER PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND
NORTH CENTRAL OREGON TODAY AND AGAIN ON FRIDAY...

.A combination of breezy winds and very low humidity will result
in a potential for rapid fire spread for new or existing fires
over portions of central Oregon tomorrow. The threat of gusty 
winds and low humidity will be extended north to include the Lower
Columbia Basin of Oregon on Friday.

Updated Aviation Discussion

.UPDATE...An upper low and trough remains off the Pacific
Northwest coast this morning with a ridge over the Rockies. This
will send a southerly flow over the area today. A wave is
currently crossing the eastern half of the area with scattered to
broken mid level clouds. The clouds are already clearing south of
John Day and the clouds will move north and out of the area later
this morning. Radar is showing some returns and virga is visible
from some of the clouds but do not believe any of it is reaching
the ground. Observations do not show any station getting even a
trace of rain. Skies will be sunny this afternoon and it will be
hot with temperatures in the 90s and in the 80s and lower 90s in
the mountains. Winds will be 5 to 15 mph over most of the area
today though winds will increase to 10 to 20 mph this afternoon
in central Oregon and the Columbia Gorge. Winds and low humidities
will increase fire danger today in central Oregon. See the Fire
Weather discussion below for more detailed information. Tonight
will be clear with no precipitation expected. Lows will be a few
degrees warmer than this morning with upper 50s to mid 60s in the
Columbia Basin and in the upper 40s to mid 50s elsewhere. Adjusted
cloud cover this morning and made minor changes to the winds and
temperatures, Otherwise the current forecast was in good shape.

.AVIATION...18Z TAFs...Mostly clear skies are expected through
early tomorrow morning across the region. Upper level cloudiness
will begin to increase after daybreak tomorrow ahead of an
approaching upper level low. Winds will be 8-12KT...except 12-18KT
at RDM/BDN and DLS with higher gusts for a few hours late this
afternoon and into the early evening. Winds will increase to breezy
for all locations Friday afternoon behind a mostly dry cold front
just beyond this TAF period. Peck

.FIRE WEATHER...Several fire weather concerns are anticipated over
the next 48 hours. For today, it will be hot and dry, and winds will
increase in our far western zones. Red Flag Warnings were posted for
portions of Central Oregon covering the Deschutes National Forest,
the Prineville District, and the Crooked River Grasslands for gusty
winds and low humidity.  Although the winds are not expected to be
strong for most of the warning area, the humidity will be critically
low.  Sustained winds of 10-20 mph combined with single digit RHs
will result in rapid fire spread.  The Eastern Columbia River Gorge
as far east as Arlington will observe breezy winds late when the RHs
will be in the mid 20s, thus the RHs will not be low enough for red
flag criteria. On Friday, most of the forecast area will observe
increasing winds associated with a cold front. A low pressure system
tracking across northern Washington Friday night may also bring
isolated thunderstorms with little rainfall over the Columbia Basin.
Fire weather highlights may be issued during the afternoon package

SHORT TERM...Today through Saturday...Upper low off the Oregon
coast will swing inland across Washington Friday evening. For
today...deep layer southerly flow ahead of the low will result in a
hot afternoon with high temperatures well into the 90s in the lower
elevations and mostly 80s in the mountains. Friday will be a day of
primarily fire weather concerns. As the trough approaches a cold
front will move across the area. Winds will be at least breezy from
the south across portions of central Oregon ahead of the front and
breezy to windy west winds are expected behind the front from the
Columbia Basin Westward during the late afternoon and early evening.
Relative humidities will also be in the teens during peak heating.
Friday evening mainly after 00Z there is still a question of whether
or not there will be any thunderstorm development across northern
Oregon and southern Washington. There remains some elevated
instability in the models particularly in the GFS so have maintained
a slight chance of thunderstorms from 00Z-09Z Friday evening mainly
across the Columbia Basin. After 09Z any thunderstorm activity will
move off to the northeast of the area and the rest of the forecast
looks dry through Saturday. Afternoon highs on Saturday will be
pleasantly cooler with 80s in the lower elevations and 70s
mountains. 78

LONG TERM...Saturday night through Wednesday...Low amplitude ridge
will yield dry conditions Saturday night through Sunday night. The
ridge then breaks down and gives way to an upper level trough
approaching the coast Sunday night, which pushes a dry cold front
across the forecast area Monday. The front will bring breezy winds to
the region Monday afternoon/evening. The main marine push with the
front occurs in the evening after relative humidity bottoms out and
has begun increasing. Otherwise, dry westerly flow aloft takes hold
