Texas today...

.A very strong cold front will continue to make its way into
northwestern Oklahoma early this morning. Wind gusts over 60 mph
will initially develop near Gage and Woodward, and then spread
southward after sunrise. Wind speeds will only slowly decrease by
late this afternoon. Blowing dust and blowing snow will also be 
possible, which could result in dangerous drops in visibility.

.AVIATION...11/06Z TAF Issuance...
Several challenges with this TAF period with the arrival of a cold
front through the first part of the period into northern Oklahoma.
With the passage, gusty south winds will shift to the north,
increasing considerably. Sustained winds for KGAG/KWWR are
expected to reach 30 to 35 kts with gusts 40 to 45 kts. As the
front pushes southward through the first half of the period, winds
will shift and increase at all sites. At the same time, MVFR
ceilings have already developed and may dip to IFR at times, as
light snow and blowing snow are possible at times from across
northern OKlahoma into central Oklahoma and southward through the
middle part of the period. Winds will remain out of the north,
post frontal, remaining gusty at most sites, while ceilings will
improve from north to south through the later half of the period.

UPDATE...
Increased precipitation chances for the rest of tonight across
central and far northern Oklahoma.

DISCUSSION...
Precipitation chances and types remain challenging tonight
into Thursday. Very windy conditions and colder air will arrive late
tonight into Thursday.

Latest radars at 955 pm indicated rain showers and a few
thunderstorms from Lawton to Petrolia, Texas, moving northeast
ahead of small scale mid/upper disturbance near Childress, Texas
as detected by GOES16 satellite imagery. This rain will continue
to move northeast into central Oklahoma over the next few hours. A
rumble or two of thunder will be possible due to steep mid level
lapse rates (7-8C/km) and MUCAPE up to 300 J/kg. Strong wind
potential has decreased due to a strong low level inversion in
place across central Oklahoma.

Think additional rain showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms will
form over northwestern Oklahoma over the next few hours as the
mid/upper disturbance near Childress moves northeast.

There is potential for a few inches of snowfall to occur somewhere
in far northwestern Oklahoma (north of an Arnett to Woodward to
Medford line) into Kansas between 3 am and noon Thursday, near
and just north of the mid/upper disturbance. Some models including
HRRR/HRRRX/NAM have been depicting this scenario. Will hold off on
issuing a Winter Weather Advisory at this time as confidence of
1 inch or snowfall or higher seems to be too low south of the
Oklahoma Kansas state line. Model soundings generally support a
rapid transition from rain to snow in far northwestern Oklahoma with
cold frontal passage between 3 and 8 am. A brief period of sleet may
occur as well.

Wind Advisory is in good shape. Temperatures will fall rapidly
behind the cold front passage late tonight into Thursday.

UPDATE...
Increased rain chances this evening across western north Texas and
southwestern Oklahoma. Expanded rain chances eastward this evening
to include the I-44 corridor (Oklahoma City to Lawton to Wichita
Falls). Extended thunder mention between midnight and 6 am
tonight across northern Oklahoma. Made minor adjustments to hourly
weather elements tonight.

DISCUSSION...
A few showers and thunderstorms will occur tonight across Oklahoma
and western north Texas. Some wintry precipitation may occur
after 3 am tonight in northwestern Oklahoma. Very strong northerly
winds will move into northwestern Oklahoma after 3 am tonight.

Latest radars indicated rain showers moving into far western
north Texas from near Vernon to Knox City just ahead of mid/upper
level vort lobe. This activity appears to be weakening as it moves
northeastward. The West Texas Mesonet site near Knox City
reported a 53 mph gust at 640 pm with this high based activity.
As a result, increased rain chances this evening across western
north Texas and southwestern Oklahoma. A few rumbles of thunder
remain possible with MUCAPE up to 300 J/kg. Gusty winds around
50  mph and pea size hail could occur with this activity, which
should remain below severe limits, and slowly weaken as it moves
into a more stable airmass. Additional rain showers and a few
thunderstorms may form north of the current activity across
western Oklahoma in the next few hours with the approach of the
mid/upper level low.

Chances for showers and a few thunderstorms will continue after
midnight tonight across mainly the northern half of Oklahoma.
Kept thunder mention with most HRRR/HRRRX model guidance depicting
up to 300 J/kg in these areas late tonight.

Some precipitation in far northwestern Oklahoma may turn over from
rain to sleet to snow in the after 3 am as the cold front quickly
surges southward. For now, will not issue a Winter Weather
Advisory thinking most wintry precipitation will occur north of
the Kansas Oklahoma state line, but there is a concern that a
dusting of sleet/snow could occur northwest of an Arnett to
Cherokee line between 3 am and noon Thursday.

Current Wind Advisory seems to be in good shape. Some wind gusts
may approach High Wind Criteria (58-64 mph) across parts of
western Oklahoma and western north Texas between 3 am and 2 pm
Thursday, especially on ridgetops. For now, will not issue a
High Wind Warning thinking most wind gusts will stay in the 40-57
mph range.

Still appears a band of light snow may form around midday Thursday
from Ponca City to Oklahoma City to Lawton to Wichita Falls then
move southeastward during the afternoon hours based on latest
models. This could bring a quick dusting up to one inch of
snowfall in these areas. Not confident this will occur, but
will monitor.

Multiple aviation concerns moving through the period. Already
strong south winds will increase overnight, pre-frontal arrival,
with gusts approaching 30kts possible. The wind shift with the
frontal boundary will occur towards 08 to 09z, in northwestern
Oklahoma. North winds will be strong, with gusts to 40kts.
Additionally, wintry precipitation, likely a mix of rain and snow
will be possible for northwest Oklahoma sites. Ceilings will vary
from MVFR to IFR through the early morning through midway of the
TAF period for several locations, primarily across central into
western Oklahoma. Timed the wind shift, north to south through the
morning hours across the region. The strongest winds will reside
across western Oklahoma, but no location will be immune to gusts
over 30kts, at times, with the progression of this front.

DISCUSSION...
Main focus was on strong winds, winter precipitation, and cold
temperatures/wind chills over the next 24-36 hours.

The mid and upper low/shortwave over New Mexico will continue to
move east into the panhandles this evening and NE across portions of
Oklahoma overnight within a longwave upper trough that will move
across the area Thursday. The shortwave tonight will bring a chance
of precipitation this evening across the NW third or so of the fa.
The precipitation this evening is expected to be rain showers and
possible a storm or two. A strong cold front is expected to move
into NW parts of the area overnight and arrive near the I-44
corridor around sunrise before making it through the rest of the fa
by late morning/early afternoon. Colder air will move into the
region behind this front causing falling temperatures during the day
Thursday for many locations. Precipitation chances will continue
across portions of the area Thursday but with colder air moving into
the region winter precipitation will be possible with primarily snow
but maybe some sleet mixed in before completely changing to snow.
The precipitation tonight into Thursday is expected to be light with
maybe some accumulations of up to half an inch possible in a few
locations and probably primarily on grassy and elevated surfaces.

Strong northerly winds are also expected behind the cold front with
wind gusts of 40 to around 55 mph possible across much of the fa.
A wind advisory will be issued for the entire fa starting
overnight/early Thursday for western portions of the fa and
continuing through the day. The rest of the fa will start Thu
morning and continue through early evening. Some severe wind
gusts (58+ mph) may be possible in western portions of the fa
Thursday but not certain about whether this will occur and how
widespread these gusts would be so will not issue a high wind
warning for now and let later shifts monitor.

The strong winds will also lead to other problems. Blowing snow
where snow occurs may make it look like heavier snow is falling and
may reduce visibilities a little. The winds combined with the colder
temperatures will also lead to cold wind chills (Teens & 20s)
Thursday afternoon and single digits Friday night. Elevated to near
critical fire weather conditions will also be a concern due to the
strong winds behind the front.

Friday into early next week...
Several re-enforcing shots of cold air will will be possible
Friday night into Saturday and then again Sunday night into
Monday. There are some model differences but there may be a chance
for precipitation in portions of the area next week.
