...THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR WEST CENTRAL SUFFOLK COUNTY
WILL EXPIRE AT 345 AM EDT...
                
The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and no longer poses an immediate threat to life or property.
Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire.  However gusty
winds to 40 mph are still possible with this thunderstorm.

.SYNOPSIS...
A weak frontal system will approach tonight and pass offshore on
Thursday. A frontal boundary approaches Friday, and may stall
nearby this weekend into early next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Highest coverage of shower/tstm activity remains to the N of
the forecast area with storm motion to the NW. SBCAPE remains
around 2k J/KG and with outflow boundaries around from earlier
convection have maintained CHC pops for the next couple of
hours. As the upper trough approaches overnight, heights will
begin to fall and although there won't be as much instability as
the during the daytime, shower/tstms coverage may begin to
increase. 00z sounding still juicy with PW's of 1.88 inches so any
additional convection that does develop has the potential to
produce heavy rain.

The upr trof will be slow to exit on Thu. This will likely spark
additional shwrs and tstms during the day, especially before
18z.

Heat indices on Thu are very close to the 95 degree threshold
for the usual warm spots, including the city. Right now however,
they are just shy due to lower dewpoints, but mid shift can
reevaluate.

There is a low risk for rip current development at Atlantic
Ocean beaches on Thu.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Subsidence behind the upr trof will allow for any residual pcpn
to rapidly end. The fcst has been kept dry based on the current
model timing. Limited moisture on nw flow is progged to produce
mainly clr skies, although some cirrus currently over the
midwest may advect in.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Dry conditions expected Friday as weak high pressure builds
across the area. Temperatures should peak on Friday in the mid
to upper 80s. Heat indices on Friday will stay below 95.

A weak cold front will then be stalled nearby Friday night
through the weekend. This brings a chance of showers and
thunderstorms for the entire period with the higher chances
generally away from the coast. Temperatures over the weekend
will be in the lower to mid 80s.

A wave of low pressure may form to our SW on Monday and pass
through Tuesday and Wednesday. This will allow for a prolonged
period of south to southwest flow, which will allow additional
moisture to stream into the area. This will result in showers
and thunderstorms to develop, with the best coverage during the
afternoon and evening hours.

For temperatures, highs will remain in the low to mid 80s with
low temperatures in the mid 60s to lower 70s.

.AVIATION /03Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
A rather broad pre-frontal trough across southern New England
and into the mid Atlantic states will move slowly east
overnight. A cold front then moves through the area Thursday.
Scattered showers and maybe an isolated thunderstorm will be
possible through most of the overnight hours.

Mainly VFR, except in areas of showers and isolated thunderstorms
where MVFR is possible. There may be areas of MVFR fog and
stratus as winds become light and variable, and continue to
forecast this at KSWF and KISP, although there is uncertainty
if this will occur.

Light S-SW winds become westerly after 05Z as the pre-frontal
trough moves through the terminals. Some outlying terminals may
become light and variable.

West to northwest winds will remain through Thursday, and
increase up to 15 KT. Occasional higher gusts, up to 20 KT, will
be possible, especially in the afternoon.

.OUTLOOK FOR 00Z FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY...
.Friday-Friday night...VFR. Isolated thunderstorms possible
late in the day and at night with local MVFR conditions.
.Saturday through Monday...Chance of showers/thunderstorms with
MVFR or lower conditions possible.

.MARINE...
A weak frontal sys approaches tngt and passes on Thu. Although
winds and seas will remain blw sca lvls, tstms will be capable
of producing winds in excess of 35 kt, lightning strikes and
torrential rain reducing vis. Winds and seas remain blw sca
lvls Thu ngt.

The pressure gradient remains weak overall through the weekend and
into early next week, resulting in sub-SCA conditions through
Monday.

.HYDROLOGY...
While basin average rainfall amounts through Thursday are
progged to remain less than one half inch, any thunderstorms
will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall and minor
urban flooding, along with isolated flash flooding. Thereafter,
showers or thunderstorms over the weekend and into the beginning
of the week could produce locally heavy rainfall and minor
urban flooding.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Astronomical tides will be increasing with the approach of a
new moon on Saturday. Coastal flooding will be possible with the
evening/nighttime high tide cycles Thursday through at least
Saturday. Although winds will be light, all that is needed in
most cases is around half foot or less of tidal departures to
reach minor coastal flooding. Areas that will be most
susceptible to minor flooding during this period are the south
shore back bays of Nassau, Queens and Brooklyn, Lower NY Harbor,
and portions of western Long Island Sound and perhaps along
Great South Bay in western Suffolk County. Minor flooding would
be most likely during Friday and Saturday night.

along a line extending from near Windham to near Bozrah. Movement was
northeast at 30 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Jewett City, Norwich, Colchester, Salem, Griswold, Lebanon, Preston,
Lisbon, Sprague, Bozrah, Voluntown, Montville, North Stonington and
Franklin.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
