.SYNOPSIS...
Strong coastal low slowly moves farther southeast of Long
Island while slightly deepening tonight. This moves farther out
to sea Saturday while high pressure starts to build in from the
west, building more into the Great Lakes. High pressure then
builds in for the second half of the weekend with another storm
system possible for the middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
Only change to the forecast was to convert the high wind
warning to advisories. Winds should continue to diminish
overnight.
Otherwise, forecast remains on track. Strong coastal low
starting to move farther southeast. Radar shows precipitation
tapering off as drier air moves in. A return to dry conditions
is expected around or just before sunrise Saturday morning.
Impacts will still be seen considering the wind stress and long
duration of the wind event. The added weight of the snow will
also cause tree limbs to fall with less wind.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/...
Models show the low center moving from around 37N/65W at 12Z Sat
to around 36.5-37N/62-62.5W by early Saturday evening. The
farther southeast push of the low will result in less of a
pressure gradient but it will still be tight between the low
moving farther southeast of Long Island and high pressure
building into the Great Lakes. Wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph are
expected with possibly occasionally higher gusts to 50 mph,
making for potential wind advisory conditions. NAM and GFS
Bufkit showing this potential as well if mixing from the top of
the mixed layer.
Took a model blend of MAV/MET/NAM12 2 meter temperatures for
highs, which will be mitigated by the gusty winds, ranging from
the mid to upper 40s.
Weather will be dry with slight ridging as upper level low
continues to move farther southeast with the sfc low. High
pressure slowly building in from the west.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Only minor changes were made during the long term period. Large
offshore storm system will not be able to move all too much into the
Atlantic late this weekend into early next week. This is due to a
blocking ridge to its north across Baffin Bay south of Greenland.
The upper low associated with the offshore storm will gradually
weaken with time as a new upper trough amplifies across the central
states. Upper ridging dominates aloft Monday into Tuesday and will be
followed by the digging trough which will bring the next storm
system for the middle of next week.
Still could see gusts 25-30 mph across eastern Long Island and
southeastern Connecticut Saturday night with gusts 20-25 mph on
Sunday as the low gradually moves away and high pressure builds in
from the west.
The evolution of the next storm system remains somewhat uncertain,
but it appears that the parent low will move across the Ohio
Valley/Great Lakes region on Tuesday with secondary development
along the Middle Atlantic coast Tuesday night into Wednesday. A
consensus of the latest model guidance depicts a mostly rain event
at this time although there could be some mixing across the interior
Wednesday morning. The mesoscale details will still need to be
ironed out and with this being a day 5/day 6 event did not make too
many changes from previous forecast. The upper trough associated
with this system develops a mean trough over the eastern US for the
end of the week.
Near seasonable temperatures forecast Sunday through next week.

.AVIATION /07Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Strong coastal low slowly moves farther southeast out to sea
today.
Return to VFR is expected through the TAF period. Cannot rule
out MVFR ceilings at times early this morning.
Gusty north/northwest winds are forecast through the day.
Generally expect speeds of 20 to 30 kt with gusts 30 to 40 kt. A few
higher gusts are possible early on.
The winds diminish late in the day and through the evening.

.Tuesday...VFR with rain possible late or at night. Wintry mix
across the interior possible.

.MARINE...
Storm force winds through the overnight, will decrease to gales
on Saturday with a gradual weakening of pressure gradient
Saturday. There could be a few gusts to hurricane force,
particularly on the Eastern Ocean, late this afternoon and
evening.
Gale force winds are still expected on the waters east of Moriches
inlet Saturday night. Winds will be on a downward trend through
Sunday overall, but still will likely need an SCA through Sunday
evening. Some SCA conditions will linger on the eastern waters into
Monday. at this point as the coastal low pulls further offshore.
Ocean seas will likely remaining at SCA levels through the middle of
the week

.HYDROLOGY...
Additional rain/liquid equivalent will be less than a quarter
inch through tonight.
&&
.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding tonight expected.
High tide is now passing across the south shore. Will need to
monitor trends as northerly flow is now prevailing and will for
the next 24 to 36 hours.
Relied on anomaly-adjusted ETSS and Stevens Tech guidance for
water level forecasts through Sat night. Moderate flooding
should be confined mostly to the south shore bays of western
Long Island and isolated spots along the westernmost Long Island
Sound. Then widespread flooding of at least moderate levels
expected there and across most of the Long Island waters and
Lower New York Harbor with the Saturday AM/midday high tides.
Major flooding possible along the south shore of Nassau and SW
Suffolk, including spots such as Freeport and Lindenhurst.
Minor coastal flooding expected elsewhere on Sat including Upper
NY Harbor, tidal NE NJ, and the CT coastline.
Guidance is in some disagreement on water levels for the Sat
night high tide, which could actually be the same or higher than
daytime Sat per Stevens Tech guidance, but this remains
uncertain. Moderate flooding expected again for at least the
south shore bays of western Long Island and the westernmost
Long Island Sound.
Water levels may start to come down Sunday into Monday, but
still at least minor to locally moderate flooding expected on
Sunday.
The USGS Coastal Hazard Viewer continues to depict potential
for a prolonged threat for areas of dune erosion and localized
washovers Sat thru Mon.
