.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will pass just south and east of Long Island
tonight, followed by high pressure building in through the
weekend. The high then shifts offshore on Monday. Low pressure
developing over the southeast coast Monday night will rapidly
strengthen as it lifts up the east coast on Tuesday. High
pressure then returns for the latter part of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
Flash Flood Watch only remains up for southeast CT and far
eastern Long Island.

Back edge of heaviest rain aligns with the aforementioned watch
and coincides with a strong low-level jet. This axis will shift
east the next couple of hours, at which time the watch will be
canceled.

An additional 1/2 to 1 inch is possible across these areas with
rainfall total of 1 to 2 inches. Localized higher amounts are
still possible.

Closed 500mb low tracks across the Great Lakes tonight, sending
low pressure just south and east of Long Island tonight. This
track coincides well with the greatest 3hr pressure falls.

Low temperatures will be above normal with a non-diurnal
temperature trend through the night.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure builds in through the period. The pressure gradient
will be strong, and despite a strengthening subsidence
inversion aloft, strong low-level cold/dry air advection behind
the cold front will allow for mixing to at least 5-6kft. It will
be breezy, and the potential exists for at least isolated gusts
approaching advisory criteria, but most gusts are expected to
be in the 30-45 mph range.

Temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees below climatological normals
in strong cold air advection, with winds making it feel as
though it is in the mid 30s to lower 40s.

Winds subside through Saturday night as the center of high
pressure approaches the Mid-Atlantic. Dry weather continues with
below-normal low temperatures. Frost and freeze headlines will
probably be needed for the city and adjacent suburbs.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
NWP guidance is in good agreement with the H5 pattern across North
America into early next week. The troublesome time frame is
during the midweek period and whether or not there is phasing
of the northern and southern streams. Today's 12z runs have the
EC more in line with the remaining guidance with the eastward
progression of the upper trough however, it phases the jet
streams where the GFS keeps them separate. This is resulting in
sfc low track differences, the EC tracking near NYC while the
GFS tracks the center near Montauk. The CMC is between these 2
solutions.

High pressure builds over the area on Sun and shifts offshore
on Mon. Dry and unseasonably cool (around 10 degrees below
normal) conditions will prevail through this time. A WAA pattern
begins to develop on Mon so highs should be a few degrees
warmer than Sun. Mid and high clouds will also start to return
Sun night and Mon as the next storm system develops over the
SE/Gulf coast states. The low is forecast to track through the
SE and Mid Atlantic states, pass near or over the local area on
Tue, and then continue through New England while rapidly
strengthening. Due to the aforementioned differences with the
phasing of the northern and southern stream branches of the jet
potential impacts remain uncertain although wind and rain
impacts remain a possibility. Luckily the system is moving
fairly quickly and we will be astronomically low, so coastal
flooding does not appear that it will be an issue at this time.

Breezy conditions are expected as the storm departs Tue
night/Wed although building high pres will bring a return to dry
weather for mid-late week.

.AVIATION /03Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Low pres about 60 miles s of KJFK at 2z will track e of the NYC
arpts in the next few hours.

MVFR or lower until the low passes, then conditions improve to
VFR by 6-10Z from W to E.

Winds will begin to back over the next few hours as the low
gets close and passes. There is a chance that KISP and KGON see
a brief period of light and variable winds as the low passes
over.

VFR on Sat with westerly winds gusting 30 to 40 kt.

.OUTLOOK FOR 00Z SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...
.Saturday night...VFR with decreasing winds.
.Sunday...VFR. NW-WNW winds G20-30KT probable.

.MARINE...
No changes to the SCA and Gale Warnings. Winds increase this
evening before subsiding briefly around midnight. Winds the pick
up with an offshore flow for the late night hours as low
pressure pulls away and high pressure builds in from the east.
Gales on all waters for Saturday into early Saturday evening,
with the ocean/Eastern LI Sound/Eastern Bays continuing to have
gales later into the night.

Winds and seas will diminish through Sun with all waters
falling below SCA levels by late in the day. Tranquil conditions
return will then remain on the waters though Monday as high
pressure builds towards and then east of the area. Then an area
of low pressure developing near the SE coast Mon night will
rapidly deepen as it lifts up the east coast through Tue,
bringing the potential for SCA and possibly gale force winds
back to the waters through Wed.

.HYDROLOGY...
1 to 2 inches of rain with locally higher amounts are expected
through tonight. Highest amounts are generally expected across
portions of Long Island and coastal/eastern Connecticut. Given
wet antecedent conditions and the potential for leaves to clog
drains, there is a heightened threat for localized flash
flooding. The heaviest rainfall will occur before midnight for
most locations.

Dry weather is expected Sat through Mon eve. Another 1-2 inch
rainfall event is possible late Mon night-Tue.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
The night time high tide is the lower of the two tide cycles, by
almost a foot.

Water levels may touch or slightly exceed minor flood thresholds
across the most vulnerable spots in the western south shore bays of
Long Island. Will issue a coastal flood statement from Brooklyn

East winds ahead of low pressure along with heavy rain may result in
minor coastal flooding locally around the high tide this evening.
High tide times occur from around 9 pm around Jamaica Bay through
midnight over Suffolk County in the Lindenhurst area.

For the western Long Island Sound, the heavy rain shifts east, and
winds turn toward the north by the time high tide approaches around
or shortly after midnight. As such, do not foresee coastal flooding
for these locations at this time.

...A LINE OF SHOWERS WILL AFFECT SUFFOLK COUNTY...

At 736 PM EST, radar indicated showers were located along a line
extending from 6 miles northwest of Stony Brook to near Captree State
Park to 24 miles south of Jones Beach. Movement was northeast at 55
mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with these showers.

These showers will be near...
  Deer Park and Babylon around 740 PM EST.
  Islip and Brentwood around 745 PM EST.
  Hauppauge and Ronkonkoma around 750 PM EST.
  Centereach and Stony Brook around 755 PM EST.
  Medford and Port Jefferson around 800 PM EST.
  Middle Island and Rocky Point around 805 PM EST.
  Wading River and Calverton around 810 PM EST.
  Davis Park around 820 PM EST.
  Shirley and Manorville around 830 PM EST.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these showers. This will
