A warm front approaches from the south through this evening as
low pressure moves towards the Great Lakes. The warm front
begins lifting across the area tonight. A cold front passes
through the area Wednesday afternoon. High pressure will return
behind the front Thursday. Another storm system may affect us by
the end of the week. High pressure builds back for the weekend,
followed by another storm system for the beginning of the week.

of the region for late this afternoon. Temperatures will remain
nearly steady this afternoon at around 40 before rising late
with the approach of a warm front.

Warm air advection coupled with embedded shortwaves in an enhanced
SW flow aloft support precipitation for this afternoon.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
Steady rain should exit the region to the east this evening as some
drying occurs aloft and embedded shortwaves move to the northeast.
This will leave behind a chance for light rain or drizzle as low
levels remain saturated. Dew points will rise overnight as the warm
front begins to move over the area. Impressive low level wind field
of 50-60 kt around 900 mb should be enough to lift the warm front
north overnight, but it is possible it does not completely move
north of the interior until Wednesday morning. Dew points in the
upper 40s moving over SSTs in the lower 40s should enough to develop
fog overnight, and could become dense near the coast. Temperatures
tonight may remain steady initially before gradually rise early
Wednesday morning as the warm front starts lifting north.

The warm front continues lifting north Wednesday morning ahead of a
cold front. The parent low will continue deepening as moves into
southeast Canada. Low level winds remain strong, but a likely
inversion below 3 kft will prevent mixing down significant gusts
ahead of the front. Lingering light rain/drizzle and fog should
improve ahead of the front, but may last longest across eastern Long
Island and southeast Connecticut. Temperatures will warm into
the 50s and potentially lower 60s through the day with the cold
front moving across the area in the afternoon. A band of showers
is likely to develop along and ahead of the front. Instability
is marginal so will continue to mention isolated thunder. The
day does not appear to be a complete washout, with the best
chance of precipitation with the actual cold front passage.

The stronger winds are likely behind the front in the evening as
deeper mixing occurs with boundary layer winds 35 to 45 kt.
Thinking winds will gust 30-40 mph post-frontal with a few spots
reaching 45 mph. At the present time, do not anticipate
widespread gusts over 45 mph.

It will remain gusty Wednesday night, but the intensity should be
weaker than in the evening. A colder and much drier airmass works
into the Tri-State under NW flow and high pressure building to
the southwest.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Fair weather conditions with below normal temperatures expected on
Thursday as high pressure builds across the region then moves
offshore Thursday night. A southerly flow will develop Friday
allowing temperatures to rise to near normal with highs in the low
to mid 50s. A cold front will move through the region Friday
afternoon and evening bringing rain/snow showers across the area.
High pressure builds behind the front for the weekend with
temperatures falling back to below normal. Another system could
impact the area by next Monday.

.AVIATION /18Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
A warm front approaches and passes north of the region tonight.
A cold front passes on Wed, with timing looking to be mainly
afternoon.

IFR conditions have developed across city terminals and getting
close it LIFR conditions with respect to ceilings through late
this afternoon. The rain becomes lighter for late this
afternoon, especially across city and southern terminals with
light rain, drizzle, and fog developing ahead of the warm
front for this evening. Latest trend is indicating fog comes in
somewhat sooner, closer in line with GFS guidance than what is
in TAFS. Therefore next amendments may indicate lower
visibilities sooner this evening than what is currently shown.
Regardless, LIFR conditions will prevail into tonight.

Shwrs develop ahead a cold front which moves through quickly on
Wed. There is a chc for an isold tstm as well, mainly for city
/ SW terminals with timing right now for the afternoon. Winds
are expected to gust at 35-40 kts after passage of cold front
for the afternoon and early evening.

TAFS updated to reflect ENE flow for about 4 hours or so for
early this evening. Winds could go light and variable for
awhile, to light SE before SSE wind sets up just before
daybreak. Winds will generally stay under 10kt until just after
daybreak with the winds backing to S and SSW during this time.
This is all dependent on the timing of the warm front passing
through, with higher confidence in veering winds after 6z, and
after 9z for northern terminals.

.MARINE...
Winds and seas will remain below SCA levels through this
evening. A very moist air mass moves over the cold waters
tonight, which may help develop dense fog. This fog may linger
into a portion of Wednesday morning.

Winds increase and seas build tonight into Wednesday morning to
SCA levels as a warm front moves to the north. There is also
potential for gale force winds on the ocean on Wednesday ahead
of an approaching cold front. A cold front moves across the
waters Wednesday afternoon, with gale force gusts on all waters
Wednesday evening and night. A gale watch has been issued on the
ocean Wednesday into Wednesday night and for the near shore
waters Wednesday night.

SCA conditions expected across ocean waters through Thursday
afternoon. Seas fall below SCA conditions briefly Thursday evening
before increasing back to SCA levels, possible gale force by Friday
ahead of a cold front. Seas remain above SCA levels through Saturday
then decrease below SCA levels by Saturday afternoon and remain
below through the weekend.
