.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure slowly builds into the region through tonight,
and then weakens Tuesday. A storm system will impact the area
Tuesday night through Wednesday night. The storm lifts slowly
north and up into the Canadian maritimes by the end of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Minor adjustments were made to temperatures, dewpoints and cloud
coverage to better match observed trends. Overall, forecast
remains on track.

Dry weather with cyclonic flow weakening today as heights build
into the eastern Great Lakes and mid Atlantic coast. This ridge
will be blocked by the low in the western Atlantic, which moves
little, and another low that moves into the upper plains and
upper midwest. So will see some decrease in clouds late today.
High temperatures will be near normal.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM TUESDAY/...
A weak upper ridge moves slowly through the area tonight through
Tuesday as surface high builds than weakens as this ridge
remains blocked by the western Atlantic low and another closed
upper low moves into the Great Lakes. Southern stream energy
begins to phase with this upper low late Tuesday.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the entire region from
midnight Wednesday through Wednesday night.

Confidence continues to increase on another coastal low
impacting the region late Tuesday night into Wednesday night
with potential for a plowable snow across much of the region.

As a deepening upper trough/shortwave digs into the central
states, a new area of low pressure will develop near the North
Carolina coast late Tuesday night before intensifying as it
moves northeast along or just off the coast.

05/00Z forecast models/ensembles continue to show at impact to
our local area. As always this far out, the mesoscale details
are where confidence decreases, and this is due to the exact
track and intensity of the storm. There seem to be two camps of
model clustering, the first is the NAM/GFS, which brings the low
closer to the coast. The second, the ECMWF and Canadian which
take the low over the 40N/70W benchmark. The UKMET is somewhere
in the middle of these two solutions.

If the solutions closer to the coast were to occur, it would
mean more precipitation, but would provide a warmer solution,
with rain/snow mix possible across coastal locations. A further
south and east solution would yield a little less precipitation,
but colder, with all the precipitation being snow.

The air mass ahead of this developing system is colder than the
last event. However, there is still some concern for mixing
especially near the coast. The low pressure looks to be more
compact than the previous storm last week, which may also help
wrap colder air in closer to the low and thus not have banding
as far north and west. These are just some of the details that
still need to be worked out. A consensus track as described
above would yield an initial rain/snow mix for most changing to
all snow as the low wraps up and moves to the north and east.

For now, thinking that 6-9 inches of snow will be possible,
with isolated higher amounts of up to 12 inches possible across
Southeastern CT. Lesser amounts will be possible across the twin
forks of Long Island, where there would be a better chance of
mixing, or plain rain for a period of time. Expect these initial
numbers to change a bit between now and Wednesday, as the fine
details get worked out in the forecast.

The general timing for the heaviest precipitation would be late
Wednesday morning through Wednesday night.

Any wind and coastal flood impacts will be closely tied to the
strength and track of the low.

A mean upper trough is carved out across the east Thursday into
Friday behind the storm. Flow flattens early next weekend with
some signs of the next low pressure approaching for Sunday.

.AVIATION /19Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
High pressure slowly builds down from southern Canada and
continues to build through early Tuesday. High pressure will
then weaken.

Mainly VFR with some occasional broken MVFR ceilings near
2.5-3kft, mainly for terminals KLGA and to the east, before
21Z.

Otherwise, expect ceilings around 3500-5000 ft to continue
through late afternoon.

Gusty north winds 20-25 kt will decrease late this afternoon
and diminish altogether this evening. Winds diminish to around
10 kt or less by this evening out of the NW-N.

.MARINE...
Winds have subsided on non-ocean waters so SCA was allowed to
expire for the non-ocean waters.

Winds gusts remain at SCA levels through tonight on the ocean
waters. Ocean seas then remain elevated through at least
Tuesday as swells from a western Atlantic low continue to impact
the waters. Therefore, a SCA remains on the non ocean waters
through 100 PM and on the ocean a SCA was extended through
Tuesday.

Another low pressure system develops Tuesday night and moves
across the region Wednesday and Wednesday night. This system may
bring gale force winds to at least the ocean waters Wednesday
and Wednesday night. Otherwise, SCA conditions are expected on
the area waters for the end of the week. Expect seas to increase
on Wednesday and remain above 5 ft through the end of the week.

.HYDROLOGY...
A significant precipitation event of one half to one inch liquid
equivalent is possible with another strong coastal storm Wednesday

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Based on blend of latest anomaly-adjusted forecasts from
ETSS/ESTOFS and Stevens Tech which appear quite reasonable, have
issued a Coastal Flood Warning for S Nassau and SW Suffolk for
tonight, in response to rising water levels and increasing
astronomical tides. The coastal flood watch for S Queens was
converted to a coastal flood advisory for tonight. For now, continued
advisories for today as is, however there is some suggestion
that could end up falling just short. A coastal flood statement
was issued for areas bordering Lower NY Harbor for this morning.

Looking ahead, may also have to watch for additional minor to
locally moderate flooding with another coastal storm expected to
impact the coast from Tuesday through at least Wednesday.
