A strong low pressure area will track slowly east across Kansas
tonight and into northern Missouri on Monday. Heavy snow will
develop north of this system from parts of central into northeast
Nebraska tonight as forcing intensifies after midnight and
continues into Monday morning before gradually diminishing Monday
afternoon. Snowfall in excess of 12 inches is expected in parts
of northeast Nebraska by Monday evening. Gusty north winds will
also accompany the snow and result in blizzard conditions with
significant drifting.
Temperatures will be the primary concern for this forecast as the
system moves toward the area with a significant wedge of warm air
lifting north in advance. A warm front was located over extreme
southeast Nebraska at 200 PM with temperatures in the 50s and 60s
south of the boundary. Convection is likely in the warm sector
mainly south and east of the area with some of the instability
wrapping to the north of the system and enhancing snowfall in
northeast Nebraska tonight.
By Monday night the storm will be east of the area with
diminishing winds. Temperatures will not be extremely cold with
this system and highs are expected to climb into the 30s both
Tuesday and Wednesday with some 40s south.
