.SYNOPSIS...Partly cloudy and cool today with breezy northwest
winds near the coast. Clouds increase tonight with light rain
developing in the North Bay early Saturday morning. A weak cold
front will move north to south through the Bay Area dropping some
light rain and ushering in another round of seasonably cool
temperatures. Dry weather returns Saturday night through Monday
with seasonably cool days followed by chilly nights. Next storm
approaches by Tuesday with periods of rain likely into Wednesday
and early Thursday.

.DISCUSSION...as of 02:00 AM PST Friday...Upper level trough has
moved to our east, placing us in northwest flow aloft and leading
to a quiet weather day today across the area. Skies have been
partly cloudy with some shallow cumulus clouds forming across the
higher terrain, with occasional thin high clouds passing
overhead. Northwest winds near the coast have continued to
gradually diminish but remain breezy with gusts up to 30 mph.
Temperatures have warmed to near 60 across the area, which is near
normal for the end of November for the region.

Another upper level trough will move in from the northwest tonight
through Saturday and push through a weak cold front. This system
will be fast moving and will bring some light rainfall late
tonight through Saturday. Rain will begin first along the front in
the North Bay late tonight and spread south to the Bay Area
before sunrise and to our southern regions by late morning.
Precipitation will quickly decrease from north to south after the
front moves through, tapering off by noon across the SF Bay and
by mid- afternoon along the Central Coast. Some scattered post-
frontal showers are possible during the late morning and afternoon
under the colder and more unstable airmass. Rainfall totals will
be light with around a quarter of an inch expected in most
populated areas, with up to half an inch in the mountains. Highs
tomorrow will be cooler behind the front with mid 50s expected in
most locations. Westerly winds will be breezy at times behind the
front.

Another break between systems is expected on Sunday as a weak
ridge builds in the East Pacific and we experience a return to
northwest flow aloft. Cool northwest flow will keep temperatures
from rebounding on Sunday and highs will be about 5 degrees below
normal. Lows will be colder as moisture and winds decrease, with
30s expected in the inland valleys and 40s elsewhere.

The ridge axis will pass overhead on Monday as the next
trough moves into the eastern Pacific. This trough will bring a
return to unsettled and wet weather. The trough will take a
slow, southeasterly trajectory from Monday through Wednesday and
will stay just offshore until Thursday, when it approaches
southern California. It will also tap into an area of high
precipitable water, bringing the potential for significant
precipitation east of the trough axis. At this time, there
remains small run- to- run positional differences in the center
of the trough. How close to the coast the trough gets as it moves
southeastward will have a large impact on how much precipitation
we will receive from Tuesday to Thursday. Precipitation totals
vary widely across the area in both the GFS and Euro ensembles due
to this uncertainty. As such, have kept high PoPs from Tuesday to
early Thursday but QPF amounts are still highly uncertain.

Precipitation will taper off by Thursday morning and conditions
look to stay dry through early Friday. However, the pattern will
remain progressive as models bring another frontal system through
by Friday night. Temperatures will remain cool through the period.

.AVIATION...As of 9:48 AM PST Friday...for 18Z TAFs. Visible
satellite imagery reveals high clouds streaming from northwest to
southeast over the Bay Area and Central Coast this morning with a
few isolated locations presenting some minor convective
cumulus/stratocumulus. Generally expect VFR conditions to prevail
through the day, but expect a gradual transition to MVFR ceilings
from north to south as the next system approaches the region
overnight and early Saturday. Have introduced rain showers or
light rain at the minimum at most TAF sites by the end of the TAF
periods.

Vicinity of KSFO...VFR through the daylight hours with
occasional gusty onshore winds. The next incoming system will
introduce decreasing ceilings overnight and into Saturday,
bringing with it the next chance of rain.

SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.

Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR conditions are expected to prevail at
MRY and SNS today, though can't rule out brief periods of MVFR
ceilings at MRY as a result of convective cumulus/stratocumulus.

.MARINE...as of 09:31 AM PST Friday...Northwest winds will
continue to gradually taper off through the  day, though, local
gale-force gusts are still possible through  mid or late morning.
Small craft advisories will hold over the  waters through at least
the evening hours as a result of the  decaying west swell, leading
to hazardous squared seas. Northwest  winds increase again early
Saturday.
