.SYNOPSIS...A shift in the weather pattern will bring chances of
rain showers and thunderstorms to the region on Wednesday with
continued unsettled weather through Friday. Dry weather conditions
look to develop over the region region for much of this weekend
with the potential for additional rainfall early next week.

.DISCUSSION...as of 09:24 PM PST Tuesday...Forecast remains on
track with low pressure lifting to the Northeast, pulling a cold
front across the region on Wednesday. Convective parameters remain
present in model data to support at least a slight chance of
thunderstorms for much of the area on Wednesday. Evening satellite
and lightning data are showing plenty of convection well offshore
associated with the low that is approaching. This system will
bring showers more than steady rain, but some of the showers may
be heavy at times. Apart from Wednesday's precipitation, the
overnight lows for tonight look to be on track as well, with most
areas currently in the mid 50s. Dropping to the mid 40s is not out
of the question. The caveat will be thickness of cloud cover.
Bring in the thick blanket, we may only dip into the upper 40s.
Either way, the 40s are a safe bet.
We continue to watch Friday and next week closely as rain chances
are looking better for these windows. At this time, the weekend
looks to be dry.

.PREV DISCUSSION...as of 01:38 PM PST Tuesday...An abundance of
mid/high level clouds continue to advect into the region ahead of
an approaching mid/upper level system offshore. With the ridge
currently overhead, not looking for much of a change in overnight
conditions region-wide with temperatures generally in the 40s
under a mostly cloudy sky. The ridge aloft will shift inland on
Wednesday as the aforementioned upper level system approaches the
coast. The latest thinking is that light rain will develop
offshore Wednesday morning and potentially reach the coast by late
morning. However, most inland areas look to remain dry through
the morning commute.
More widespread showers are then expected through the afternoon
and evening hours as the main mid/upper level low offshore opens
up and lifts northward. It will be during this time frame that
thunderstorms will be possible over the Pacific as the atmosphere
becomes more unstable. With this, do believe some convection will
hold together to produce a few thunderstorms over inland areas
Wednesday afternoon. Any convective showers and/or thunderstorms
will likely produce brief, moderate to heavy rainfall at times.
Showers will potentially linger into Thursday morning before
another mid/upper level disturbance and trough approaches the
Pacific Northwest and California coast late Thursday into Friday.
This is when another round of light to occasionally moderate
rainfall is expected to occur. From Wednesday into Friday, most
urban locations are forecast to pick up around 0.25" to 0.50" of
rainfall with totals around 1.00" for the North Bay. Meanwhile,
the coastal ranges and mountains of the North Bay can expect
between 1.00" to 2.00". Again, any convective showers could
potentially produce higher rainfall amounts in isolated locations
across the region, especially on Wednesday during the day.
The latest model output is showing conditions drying out across
much of the region from Friday night into Sunday. Beyond the
weekend the forecast models solutions diverge a great deal with
respect to the arrival of our next potential storm system. The
ECMWF continues to be the most aggressive with widespread rainfall
returning to the region as early as Monday afternoon while the
GFS and Canadian Models are about 12 to 24 hours later. For now,
have tried to do a blend and show rain chances increasing from
late Monday into Tuesday and continuing through the middle of next
week. Will continue to adjust the forecast in the coming days and
look for the models to converge on a more similar solution,
especially this far out.

High clouds continue to stream over the district this evening
ahead of an approaching upper level low that is currently centered
about 600 miles west of Monterey. This system will bring
decreasing ceilings through the TAF period and introduce light to
moderate rain at the terminals. Expect VFR conditions to prevail
at most TAF sites through the overnight hours. The one
questionable site is KSTS where mist/fog may develop despite the
abundance of high clouds. Ceilings will steadily decrease starting
around 18Z Wednesday and drop to MVFR levels at many sites before
midday as light rain develops. In addition to the light/moderate

Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR conditions expected overnight and
into tomorrow morning. Likely MVFR ceilings around midday with
light to moderate rain by the afternoon/evening.

.MARINE...as of 09:12 PM PST Tuesday...Southerly winds will
gradually increase overnight and into Wednesday as the next storm
system approaches the area. These breezy conditions will lead to
locally hazardous conditions in the form of steep fresh swell.
