.SYNOPSIS...High pressure over the west will maintain very warm
to hot conditions across the interior. Meanwhile, cooler
conditions will persist near the coast due to a persistent
shallow marine layer and moderate onshore flow. Slightly cooler
temperatures are expected by this weekend as high pressure
weakens.

&&

.DISCUSSION...as of 2:47 AM PDT Friday...Once again the marine
layer is very shallow this morning near the coast with a depth of
about 800 feet per the Fort Ord profiler. Satellite imagery shows
modest inland penetration of low clouds, with stratus extending
into the Salinas Valley as well as pushing through the Golden Gate
and extending into Berkeley. Visibilities are starting to lower
around the Monterey Bay with MRY and SNS both reporting around 1
mile with patchy fog.

With the upper level ridge still firmly entrenched over the west,
look for another hot day inland today with highs expected to
exceed the century mark in some locations. The onshore flow is
forecast to increase over the weekend, thus some cooling could
work its way inland, but only a few degrees at most. The main
benefit will be less impact from wildfire smoke, especially the
closer to the coast you are. Still looking at the possibility for
some tropical moisture to approach the area by midweek, but
nothing definite yet per forecast models. Temperatures are
expected to creep back up by the end of the week when high
pressure rebuilds into California.

.AVIATION...as of 10:33 PM PDT Thursday...For 06z tafs. Stratus
remains along the immediate coast and is making its way through
the Golden Gate and down the Salinas Valley. Expecting similar
conditions to what occurred last night with most sites
experiencing IFR cigs at some point overnight and into the
morning. Slantwise visibility issues will persist due to smoke
and haze from multiple wildfires. Latest HRRR smoke forecast
suggests some possible relief starting overnight and through
tomorrow in vertically integrated and near surface smoke across
the Bay Area. Patchy dense fog and drizzle will be possible
through the early morning along the coast. Winds will remain
generally light through the period with locally higher winds and
gusts in the afternoon/evening at KSFO.

Vicinity of KSFO...VFR through the period aside from patchy IFR
cigs overnight and into the early morning. Smoke/haze affecting
slantwise vis will continue to be a concern, although HRRR smoke
model suggests some overnight relief. Breezy evening winds will
diminish overnight. Onshore winds will increase again tomorrow
afternoon.

SFO Bridge Approach...Same as terminal.

Monterey Bay Terminals...LIFR/VLIFR cigs overnight into tomorrow
morning along with patchy dense fog. Generally light winds through
the period.

.MARINE...as of 8:45 PM PDT Thursday...Breezy northwesterly winds
will continue across the coastal waters with locally higher gusts
along the immediate coastline, especially near coastal gaps,
north of Point Reyes, and south of Point Sur. Two southerly swells
generated by tropical systems to the south will move through the
waters in the coming days.
