.SYNOPSIS...Light rain is possible on Sunday and Sunday night,
mainly across the North Bay, as a weak weather system moves across
northern California. A stronger cold front is expected to bring
widespread light to moderate rain to most of the region Monday and
Monday night, with gusty northwest winds expected behind the cold
front on Monday night. Christmas Day is forecast to be dry but
cool. The outlook for the rest of next week is for dry and
seasonably cool conditions along with gusty winds at times.

.DISCUSSION...As of 8:55 PM PST Saturday...A band of mid level
clouds moved across our area late this afternoon and early this
evening. KMUX Radar indicated strong enough returns in this band
to generate light rain, or at least a few sprinkles, in the North
Bay. But thus far there have been no reports of precipitation
reaching the surface. A weak system currently approaching the
northern California coast will spread additional mid and upper
level clouds across our region tonight, which should decrease fog
formation potential. However, patchy late night fog is still
possible, particularly in the North Bay Valleys.
Both the 00Z NAM and 00Z GFS indicate that the incoming system
will produce light rain in the North Bay on Sunday, with isolated
showers possibly lingering in the SF Bay Area into Sunday night.
The Sunday system is expected to generate only negligible
precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch.
A stronger and wetter system is then expected to sweep into our
region from the northwest on Christmas Eve. Widespread light to
moderate rain is expected as a cold front tracks from northwest to
southeast across our area on Monday and Monday evening. Showers
will taper off on Monday night, and are expected to end by
sunrise Christmas morning. Because the Christmas Eve system will
move through quickly, rainfall amounts are forecast to be mostly
in the 0.10 to 0.50" range, except locally more possible in the
coastal hills. In addition, breezy conditions are expected to
develop after frontal passage late Monday and Monday night.
However, the models have been trending lower with wind speeds and
it appears the strongest winds will be confined to areas over the
coastal waters. Over land we may see some gusts up to 35 mph near
the ocean and in the hills on Monday night.
Christmas Day is expected to be partly cloudy, dry, and
seasonably cool with moderate northwest breezes.
Longer range models indicate the pattern near the West Coast will
become increasingly amplified by the middle of next week with a
high amplitude upper ridge forecast to develop just offshore,
while a deep upper trough digs over the Intermountain West. In
between, across our area, we can expect mostly dry conditions for
the second half of next week, along with brisk winds at times,
and cool overnight temperatures.

that is anticipated to move into the North Bay around 18z Sunday.
