...SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT...

At 112 PM EDT/1212 PM CDT/, Doppler radar was tracking strong
thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles northeast of
Odanah to 7 miles southwest of Mellen. Movement was east at 25 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Ironwood, Bessemer, Wakefield, Hurley, Thomaston, Little Girls Point,
Van Buskirk, Ironwood Airport, Copper Peak, Black River Harbor and
Chaney Lake.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

If on or near inland lakes or Lake Superior, get out of the water
and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike
out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear
thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to
safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until
these storms pass.
