.A band of snow is expected to push into western Minnesota
Wednesday evening while another one develops late Wednesday night
further east from south central Minnesota to northwest Wisconsin.
A narrow swath of up to 7 inches is possible somewhere from the
New Ulm/Mankato areas northeast to east central Minnesota and
northwest Wisconsin. Outside of this narrow corridor, 2 to
4 inches are expected by Thursday afternoon.

Strong northwest winds will develop late Wednesday night and
continue through Thursday. The strongest winds will be found from
west central to south central Minnesota where winds could gust to
40 mph. This will result in widespread blowing snow and possible
whiteout conditions.

Little concern in the short term with surface ridge exiting to the
east. Southerly flow will increase later tonight as weak waa
pattern continues with heights rising aloft. This will continue to
spread mid/high level clouds over the area. This should temper
overall temperature drop, especially to the west overnight. We
did see some thaw today and this may generate enough low level
moisture to promote some fog. Left that out for the moment as
believe clouds will limit overall extent.

With some sunshine Tuesday, we will see continued warming ahead
of the next storm system. We increased blended guidance a degree
or two but may have to increase a bit more. Depending on overall
cloud cover.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Monday)

The main concern in the longer term is the potential snowstorm for
the area developing Wednesday night through Thursday. Then the
return of the arctic air for later inn the week through the
weekend.

The latest water vapor imagery is showing the upper trough still
off the southwest coast this afternoon. Model trends continue to
indicate this system traveling across the southwest and merging
with the northern stream trough Thursday. There remains timing
differences with the models. With the 12z ECMWF slower lifting
the system out on Thursday. At the moment we will trend toward
the blended QPF guidance with the initial F-GEN band initiating
to the west later Wednesday night. There does remain the potential
for a period of mixed precipitation in the form of freezing rain
or sleet as the system lifts out toward the northeast into
Thursday as the colder air undercuts the warmer air aloft. This
should quickly shift east however through Thursday morning. We
have retained a large area of snow with this system. With a
general 3 to 6 inch potential from southwest MN toward northwest
Wisconsin. Still have time for model fluctuations to resolve
themselves in later model runs.

Much colder air drops in behind this system through the rest of
the period. There remains at least a chance of light snow moving
across the area again Friday into Friday night as another trough
moves through with some limited Pacific moisture. With the sky
clearing out Saturday and a 1049 mb high moving over the region,
we should see very cold temperatures Saturday night and readings
struggling to reach the zero mark again for Sunday.

VFR is expected through Tuesday afternoon, with mid/high clouds
thickening and lowering throughout the period. Weak radar returns

Winds will be light and variable overnight and then increase from
the southeast on Tuesday (10G15kts by afternoon).

Confidence continues to increase in heavy snow and gusty winds is
increasing Wednesday night into Thursday. At this point the
heaviest snow looks to fall from southwest Minnesota through
northeast Minnesota and northern Wisconsin. A band of 4 to 7
