  sounds, and near shore Gulf waters. Additional fog is expected 
  to develop later this afternoon into tonight across the Alabama 
  bays, sounds, and near shore Gulf waters.

.NEAR TERM /Now Through Thursday night/...A deep upper trof over
the central conus stretching south to southern TX will continue
to dig south through tonight as a vigorous short wave rounds the
base of the trof through tonight. The mid to upper trof will reach
the lower MS valley and north central gulf by 12z Fri. Ahead of
this system showers with a few embedded thunderstorms can be
expected moving into extreme western sections of inland southeast
Ms by mid to late morning today then spreading further east this
afternoon with the bulk of the heaviest precip moving across the
entire forecast area tonight and early Fri morning. The mid to
upper trof does take on a negative tilt late today and tonight
though with limited instability near the surface through the near
term period. Most of the convection will be elevated mostly due to
a well defined stable marine layer advecting inland through
tonight. Model soundings support this reasoning depicting a moist
cool layer generally below 1.5k to 2.5k ft. Gusty south to
southwest winds along with periods of heavy rain with occasional
lightning will accompany most of the stronger convection through
tonight. Total rainfall amounts of .5 to 1.0 inches with locally
higher amounts of 2 inches can be expected later today and
tonight. Patchy fog possibly a little more widespread along the
coast can be expected early today reforming again late this
afternoon and tonight. With better moisture advection expected
later today and tonight ahead of the front we will have to monitor
areas along the coast closely for possible widespread dense fog
this evening and overnight.

Temperatures will continue to be on the mild side ahead of a surface
cold front through tonight. Highs today will range from the upper
60s to near 70 for most areas followed by lows ranging from the
lower 50s generally to the west and the upper 50s to around 60 to
the east. 32/ee

.SHORT TERM /Friday Through Saturday night/...A north-south
oriented cold front will be located over the central portion of
the forecast area at the beginning of the period then exits east
of the area by midday. A powerful shortwave, embedded within the
base of an upper trof over the eastern states, moves across the
region during the day, providing moderate deep layer lift mainly
over the eastern portion of the area during the morning followed
by subsidence shifting into the area in the afternoon. The
movement of the front and favorable lift associated with the
shortwave system will support likely to categorical pops over the
eastern half of the area Friday morning with slight chance to
chance pops further to the west, then mostly dry conditions follow
for Friday afternoon. Mixed layer CAPE values appear to have
trended lower with the most recent data, with values of 100-200
J/kg over the eastern portion of the area during the early morning
before trending lower later in the morning. Am not currently
expecting strong storm development with this environment but will
continue to monitor. Dry conditions follow for the remainder of
the period along with much colder air flowing into the area in the
wake of the front. Lows Friday night will be in the mid to upper
20s for much of the area then lows Saturday night will be in the
lower to mid 20s. Lows Saturday night will be just a few degrees
above hard freeze criteria (20F) over interior areas and will need
to continue to monitor for potential hard freeze conditions
should temperatures trend a bit lower. /29

.LONG TERM /Sunday Through Wednesday/...A large upper trof remains
over the eastern states through much of the period, possibly
evolving into an upper low over the easternmost states late in the
period. A surface ridge over the region weakens on Monday ahead of
a cold front approaching from the west, followed by the cold front
moving through the forecast area late Monday night. No
precipitation is expected with the frontal passage. A large dome
of surface high pressure builds from the Plains into the region in
the wake of the front during the remainder of the period. This
pattern supports cool daytime temperatures and cold overnight lows
through the period. A minor exception to this is that a brief
southwesterly flow develops ahead of the front set to move through
the area late Monday night which will moderate overnight lows a
bit compared to other nights. Lows Sunday night and Tuesday night
will be in the mid 20s for most of the area while Monday night
will be around 30 for interior areas with lower to mid 30s closer
to the coast. /29

.MARINE...Main concern through Sat will be possible widespread dense
fog over the near shore waters ahead of a cold front through early
Fri followed by a moderate to strong offshore flow in the wake of
the front Fri through early Sunday. Have dropped the dense fog
advisory for the near shore waters for this morning through still
mentioning areas of dense fog to the west as better moisture will
likely move over the marine area later today and tonight as wind
shift more the southeast and south. Winds at 18 to 23 knots with
seas up to 7 feet well offshore will be likely in the wake of the
front Fri and Fri night. As a result a Small Craft Advisory is now
in effect for the offshore waters from 20 to 60 nm out from late
tonight through early Sat. 32/ee
