..TROPICAL STORM IMPACTS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE REGION TUESDAY
INTO WEDNESDAY...
NEAR TERM /Now Through Monday night/...A Tropical Storm Warning
is now in effect for the coastal counties of AL, Mobile and
Baldwin, including the adjacent gulf waters out to 60 nm for a
potential tropical depression forming in the southern Bahamas
tracking west northwest intensifying as a tropical storm in the SE
gulf late today or early this evening then approaching the se
coast of Lousiana overnight and early Tues. To the east and north
a strong upper ridge of high pressure will continue to stretch
from the western Atlantic to the mid and lower MS River valleys
through tonight with a strong sfc ridge of high pressure
reflecting from the mid Atlantic region to the north central gulf
states also through tonight, eventually leading to a strong
pressure gradient forming along the coast and offshore by early
Tue. South of the ridge generally over the eastern Gulf less shear
continues to be noted aloft as per latest satellite loops and
model guidance suggesting a more favorable environment for
tropical development. For today expect more rounds of heavy
showers and thunderstorms forming over the adjacent gulf waters
early this morning then shifting inland to around I-10 corridor by
mid morning then further inland over remaining areas of the
forecast area from late morning through this afternoon. By this
evening showers and thunderstorms begin to slowly taper off mainly
during the overnight hours with scattered coverage continuing
generally along and south of a line stretching from the Wiggins Ms
to Crestview Fl. Similar to the last few days the main concern
with the heavier showers and thunderstorms today and tonight will
be periods of very heavy rain possibly leading to some localized
nuisance flooding mostly in areas where drainage in poor, gusty
winds generally from 25 to 40 mph and occasional cloud to ground
lightning strikes.
A high risk for dangerous rip current will continue along the gulf
beaches of AL and NWFL through tonight and will likely continue
through much of the week.
With more clouds than sun later today and tonight temps will
continue to range near or slightly below seasonal norms. Highs today
will range from the upper 80s to near 90 inland and the middle 80s
along the immediate coast. Lows tonight will fall to the lower 70s
for most inland areas generally north of the I-10 corridor and the
mid to upper 70s further south to the immediate coast. 32/ee
SHORT TERM /Tuesday Through Wednesday night/...Primary focus
through the short term period will be impacts from the approaching
tropical cyclone. Guidance is in general agreement with closed
circulation forming as the system emerges into the eastern Gulf
later today, and the latest NHC forecast has the system
strengthening to a tropical depression within 12 hours and
eventually a tropical storm within the next 24 hours. Official
track continues to have the system moving to the northwest, and
approaching the mouth of the Mississippi River late Tuesday
night/early Wednesday. The track was shifted slightly to the
right, increasing tropical storm force wind probabilities over far
southwest Alabama and into southeast Mississippi. If probabilities
continue to increase, the tropical storm warning may need to be
extended farther inland into southeast Mississippi. The primary
concern with this system continues to be heavy rainfall potential,
and guidance this morning still indicates the most favored areas
for heavy rain roughly southwest of a Beaumont MS to Mobile AL to
Pensacola FL line, and have introduced a Flash Flood Watch for
these areas Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday evening, where
widespread 2 to 4 inches of rain with localized amounts of 6
inches or greater are anticipated. Minor coastal flooding will be
possible. Inundation to around 2 feet still anticipated across
coastal areas of southwest Alabama and the western Florida
panhandle. Higher inundation values still remain to our west, as
does the Storm Surge Watch for now. The high risk of deadly rip
currents continues through at least midweek. Finally isolated
tornadoes may become a concern as convective bands on northeast
quadrant of the cyclone approach our region Tuesday into Tuesday
evening. High POPs continue into Wednesday before deeper moisture
associated with the system finally lifts northwest of the region.

LONG TERM /Thursday Through Sunday/...Residual deep layer
moisture remains in place across our forecast area on the eastern
fringe of the trough axis that slowly moves westward across the
Mississippi Valley and adjacent portions of Arkansas and
Louisiana. A good chance of showers/storms may continue through
Thursday, particularly over our western zones where precipitable
water values remain highest. The upper level ridge axis is
forecast to build southwestward from the Eastern Seaboard through
the Tennessee Valley and northern portions of MS/AL/GA late this
week into the first part of the weekend. Deep layer moisture
decreases slightly across our forecast area on the southern fringe
of this building feature, but remains sufficient to result in our
typical daily scattered showers and storms late this week and
into the weekend. Temperatures may slow trend up a couple of
degrees late in the extended period with the building ridge aloft,
with highs in upper 80s to lower 90s each day. /21

waters of Al and the open gulf waters of NWFL from 0 to 60 nm out.
Expect a moderate east to southeast wind flow to continue over
the marine area through this evening then begin to increased to
tropical storm strength late tonight through Tues afternoon, then
gradually diminish from east to west Tues evening through Wed
