.UPDATE...

Area of showers may move northeast through parts of the area after
09Z today, though they may be more widely scattered by the time
they reach the area. Scattered showers should occur on and off
today. More concentrated area of showers should move through the
area tonight, with some elevated convection later tonight, as the
low level jet nose points into the region. May see locally heavy
rainfall with these showers and storms.

.AVIATION(06Z TAFS)...

MVFR ceilings may vary with VFR for a few hours overnight, before
filling in by 09Z or 10Z today. Scattered showers should slide
northeast through the area after 09Z today, continuing at times
through the day.

Ceilings will gradually lower to IFR category this morning,
lingering into this afternoon. They will lower further to LIFR
tonight, as a more organized area of showers moves through. Some
thunderstorms may move through later tonight as well, producing
locally heavy rainfall.

Visibility values should be VFR until the afternoon, when 2 to 4
mile values are expected. They may lower to 1 to 2 miles later
tonight. Winds will be steady out of the northeast into today,
becoming east to southeast later tonight.

UPDATE...

Updated PoPs to hold off on any rainfall until after midnight,
when better moisture returns to the area. Lift is still on the
weak side, so not expecting anything more than just light
showers.

MARINE...

Winds will become northeasterly across the lake overnight, and
then easterly through much of Sunday. Waves will approach small
craft levels in the nearshore Sunday into Sunday evening, but
held off on an advisory for now as heights are marginal.

A warm front will lift from south to north across the lake Sunday
night and Monday, with winds becoming southerly behind the front.
Southerly flow will persist until mid week, when a strong area of
low pressure and associated cold front move through the region.
This will bring a period of higher waves and potentially gale
force winds to Lake Michigan during the mid to late week
timeframe.

MVFR ceilings will persist this evening. A few brief breaks to VFR
are possible, though will be very transient. Ceilings are
expected to fall to IFR overnight, with occasional light rain

Winds will initially be north to northeast this evening, becoming
easterly on Sunday.

SHORT TERM...

TONIGHT AND SUNDAY - Confidence...medium.

While northwest winds at the surface continue to bring in slightly
drier air in the low levels, persistent southwest steering flow at
the mid-levels will cause mid-level moisture to remain over southern
WI through Sunday.  Precipitable water remains in the 1-1.5 inch
range before rapidly increasing once again late Sunday into Sunday
night.  Any amount of weak forcing may set off light showers across
southern WI tonight and Sunday as low level baroclinic zone and
thermal ribbon will linger across southern WI/northern Il through
Sunday morning.

Once these ongoing light showers over southern CWA
slide off to the east, thinking mostly dry conditions can be
expected this evening, especially in the north. Shower chances
increase later tonight into Sunday morning as weak warm air
advection commences, with the best chance in the afternoon as deeper
moisture begins to return along with a stronger mid-level short wave
moving into the area from the south. Hence highest pops of 60% or
better reserved for late Sunday.

Steered away from NAM solution for these periods as was unsure where
it was arriving at the stronger synoptic lift and frontogenetical
forcing sliding into southern WI late tonight into Sunday morning.
As a result, it produced higher QPF over the area with a narrow
swath over 1" in the south.  Trended to a much lighter QPF using
WPC/ECMWF/GFS/GEM blend.

Thunder threat looks minimal during the period, but will continue
small threat in the far south late Sunday as synoptic scale and
moisture return rapidly increase.

LONG TERM...

Sunday night through Tuesday... Forecast confidence is medium.

925-850mb warm air advection and surface frontogenesis will the
the focus for showers and thunderstorms Sunday night. The area
most favorable for the heavier precip is south central WI into
central WI during the late evening as the front is on the move.

By Monday morning, Southern WI will be in the warm sector with a
southerly breeze as surface low pressure trough extends from
southern MN through central WI. Southeast WI will have the best
chance of dry weather Monday afternoon through Tuesday, and highs
will likely reach the lower 80s there. Precip chances toward the
Dells are more uncertain and more likely as they will be closer to
the front. Models are showing that front to be a little more
northwest than yesterday, so there is a better chance for dry
weather.

The atmosphere will be very moist with weak instability, so we
can't rule out scattered showers and some thunder at any time
while we're in the warm sector.

Wednesday through Friday... Forecast confidence is medium.

The upper trough begin to wedge into the Upper Midwest on
Wednesday and help to push the surface trough across the Upper
Great Lakes. Showers and thundestorms are likely just ahead of and
along the cold front which will likely cross WI from west to east
Wed afternoon. We will be breezy and cooler on Thursday.

Friday and Beyond... Forecast confidence is medium.

A shortwave trough tracking across the center of the country will
bring our next chance for showers to southern WI on Fri per the
GFS. The ECMWF keeps that system farther south. We might get into
a dry ridging pattern by early the following week.
