Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI 229 PM CDT Sun Mar 25 2018 .DISCUSSION... Tonight...Forecast confidence is high. High pressure will continue to keep the area dry and mostly clear overnight. But, it will be sliding off to the east by morning. Another cold night with temps in the 20s. Monday thru Tuesday night...Forecast confidence is high. This remains a wet period. Look for moisture to surge north into the area during the afternoon as troughing develops to the west. Precipitable water values are still expected to climb to around 1 inch Monday night. The H8 warm front reaches the IL/WI border right around 00z Tue, signaling the arrival of the deeper saturation. We could see some leading showers push into southern Wisconsin by mid afternoon, but the main thrust of rain will hit as that elevated warm front and eventually the surface warm front move in. Monday night will see widespread showers and possibly even isolated thunderstorms. Little spread in the temp/dew point will result in areas of fog as well. Total rainfall is in the 0.50" to 0.70". The surface/H8 trough are pushing east already by sunrise on Tuesday with any lingering rain likely ending from west to east by late morning. Areas from Madison on west may be dry all day on Tuesday, with the rain hanging on a bit longer across the southeast. Tuesday may not be a complete wash-out as was anticipated earlier. Wednesday and Thursday...Forecast confidence is high. Wednesday is the pick day of the week. We should get into some decent sunshine with highs in the 50s. Winds will be on the lighter side. A trough/cold front pushes across the Great Lakes Wednesday night, exiting east in the morning. This could bring us some light precip, but it also signals a shift toward a cooler stretch of weather for the end of next week. Friday through Sunday...Forecast confidence is medium. The upper pattern is fast and noisy and results in lots of small chances of precipitation at the end of the week. The GFS is trying to bring in a focused band of snow across southern Wisconsin on Saturday, while the ECMWF is looking drier, though it does have developing low pressure to the west. This model discrepancy is typical of a fast flow and resolving these details is difficult to impossible this far out. We'll have to let this one play out for a few days. && .AVIATION(18Z TAFS)... VFR conditions can be expected through 18z Monday. MVFR CIGS will then spread quickly north through the area after about 20-21z Monday as moisture moves in ahead of an approaching low pressure system. Look for the east winds to subside tonight, then veer southeast by Monday morning. The southeast winds will increase again by mid day on Monday. && .MARINE...
