Small Craft Advisory...which is in effect until 4 AM CDT Sunday.
The Gale Warning will expire at 7 PM CDT this evening. 

* WINDS: Northwest at 15 to 20 knots with gusts to 25 knots. 

* WAVES: 2 to 4 feet subsiding to 1 to 3 feet.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots
are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft.
Inexperienced mariners...especially those operating smaller

.SHORT TERM...
Today and Tonight...Forecast Confidence is Medium...

Still some cirrus associated with an upper trough moving across
Wisconsin today.

An upper jet moves across Iowa toward Illinois with southern
Wisconsin in the left exit region, with strong 700 mb upward
motion late tonight, as a deepening surface low tracks across
southern Minnesota late tonight.

Expect clouds to rapidly increase later today and tonight.
Fairly confident that there will be precipitation late tonight
into Saturday morning, with a strong 850 mb jet of 55 knots
pushing moisture in from the southwest by sunrise saturday.
Forecast soundings indicate precipitation will start as a mix or
mainly snow north areas. The precipitation then quickly
transitions into a rain/snow mix north and all rain. Appears
areas toward central Wisconsin may get around an inch of snow,
with leaser amounts south.

.LONG TERM...
Saturday and Sunday...Forecast Confidence is High...

Snow or a mix is likely toward central Wisconsin in the morning,
with just a little accumulation possible. No accumulation is
expected for the rest of southern Wisconsin. Rain will quickly
come to an end midday as the upper shortwave moves out and a cold
front moves through followed by dry northwest flow. Surface low
pressure will move across northern wisconsin on Saturday. A very
tight pressure gradient will be in place and the Low level jet
ramps up to 40-50 knots Saturday. Will likely need a wind advisory
during the day. Brisk winds will linger into the night.

High pressure will slide southwest of the state on Sunday
bringing dry weather. Northwest flow in the wake of the cold front
will usher in colder temperatures. Temperatures around sunrise on
Sunday look to be in the teens.

.Monday through Thursday...Forecast Confidence is Medium...

Southerly flow ahead of the next system will allow temps to
rebound slightly. There is chance for precip early in this
period. It may be snow especially during the overnight hours. An
upper trough will drop through tuesday night as low pressure moves
from the Rockies to Indiana. Light east winds may keep lakeshore
areas cooler. High pressure moving through should keep Wednesday
dry. Models diverge for thursday resulting in low pops.

Friday into next weekend...Forecast Confidence is High...

There is good model agreement on an upper level closed low moving
across the great lakes into the northeast. High pressure will
sink into the northern plains and upper midwest. This means
another shot of cool air is likely.

.AVIATION(09Z TAFS)...

Some MVFR clouds off lake michigan into mid morning. Otherwise
VFR conditions will continue through this evening. Increasing and
lowering high/mid level clouds later today and this evening. Then
MVFR/IFR late tonight as a strong low approaches northern
Wisconsin from the west. Rain/snow mix then rain. Precipitation
ends by noon Saturday morning. Wind gusts to 40 knots likely late
Saturday morning/afternoon.

Kept the Small Craft Advisory for south areas until mid morning.
Still some higher north winds/waves possible.

Strong Low pressure moving across northern Wisconsin will bring
south Gales, becoming west/northwest on saturday. A gale warning
is in effect for Saturday.
