Some clearing has occurred in eastern parts of the area, and
should remain so overnight. The clouds should remain in the
western parts over the area during this time. Clouds will
gradually spread northeast into the area Saturday, with east
southeast winds. Rain will push northeast into the area later
Saturday afternoon and early Saturday evening, continuing into
the night. East southeast winds will become gusty Saturday night.

.AVIATION(06Z TAFS)...
Ceilings around 4500 to 5000 feet should linger in western parts
of the area, including Madison, overnight. Eastern parts will see
some clearing overnight, though some clouds may move through at
times. Winds will be light and variable. VFR category clouds will
move gradually northeastward through the area Saturday, with east
southeast winds.
Area of rain will move northeast into the area later Saturday
afternoon and early Saturday evening, continuing through the
night. Ceilings should lower to 1000 to 1500 feet, possibly lower
than 1000 feet by Sunday morning. Visibility values should be in
the 3 to 6 mile range. East southeast winds will be gusty during
this period.
The rain and gusty southeast winds are expected Sunday, with some
gusts of 30 to 35 knots possible near Lake Michigan. May see some
low level wind shear Sunday, with 2000 foot level winds in the 40
to 50 knot range. MVFR ceilings and visibility values should
remain.

and the nearshore areas of se WI for early Sunday morning into
Sunday evening. Ssely gales will prevail during this time with 10
to 15 foot waves forecast over the western half of the lake.

UPDATE...A weak sfc ridge will remain over WI tnt-Sat AM. An
upper trough will then amplify over the srn Great Plains Sat aft-
nt and begin to lift newd toward WI Sun AM. 850-700 mb warm, moist
advection and frontogenesis will bring rain during this time,
followed by another band of moderate rainfall with the approaching
upper trough on Sun. Rainfall totals will range from around 0.50
inches over se WI to an inch over south central WI.
AVIATION(00Z TAFS)...Sct-bkn050 stratus for tnt-Sat AM. Rain will
then slowly overspread srn WI from west to east from the middle of
Sat afternoon into the evening. Areas of MVFR Cigs with the rain
over south central WI late Sat afternoon becoming widespread into
the evening.

SHORT TERM...
Tonight through Sunday Night...Forecast Confidence Moderate to
High.
Temperatures have warmed into the mid to upper 40s under variable
clouds this afternoon. Temperatures tonight will cool back into
the low to mid 30s.
Low pressure will deepen across the Plains tomorrow, with winds
gradually becoming easterly to southeasterly by tomorrow
afternoon. As that low begins to lift north toward the region
tomorrow, expect to see precipitation overspread the area from
southwest to northeast during the late afternoon. Precipitation
will continue into Sunday, as the surface low lifts into western
Wisconsin. Total rainfall through Sunday evening looks to be on
the order of a half to one inch of rain.
In addition to the rainfall, winds will become stronger with time,
with gusts of 30 to 35 MPH by Sunday afternoon. Winds will
dissipate Sunday evening as a front sweeps through and the surface
low begins to weaken.
LONG TERM...
Monday and Tuesday...Forecast Confidence Moderate.
Monday will be a relatively quiet day across the area, with a
brief period of shortwave ridging moving through. Our next system
will develop across the southern Plains Monday, with a rapidly
deepening surface low lifting north into the Great Lakes Tuesday.
This system will bring another shot of rain, along with
considerable wind to the area. Another half inch to inch of rain
will be possible, along with wind gusts to 30-35 MPH.
Wednesday through Day 7...Forecast Confidence Moderate, becoming
Low.
Much colder air will build into the region Wednesday, with precip
perhaps ending as some light snow showers. Highs on Wednesday and
Thursday may struggle to make it into the 40s, with lows falling
into the 20s.
Forecast confidence falls off considerably by the end of the
workweek, with the potential for one or more storm systems to
affect the area as we head into next weekend. It is far too early
to determine precip type and impacts given wide model to model
and run to run variability. At the very least, it looks like our
active stretch of weather will continue into next weekend.
AVIATION(21Z TAF Update)...
Variable clouds continue across the area, with conditions
generally remaining VFR. This should continue into tonight, with
light and variable winds overnight.
VFR will continue into Saturday, with winds becoming more
southeasterly to easterly with time. Precipitation will begin to
overspread the area Saturday afternoon, but will likely hold off
from affecting the terminals until closer to 00Z. Along with the
rain, flight conditions will likely fall to MVFR and then IFR by
later Saturday into Saturday night.
MARINE...
A strong storm system will move into western Wisconsin late
Saturday, with strong southeast winds developing late Saturday
night and continuing into Sunday evening. Gales are likely across
both the nearshore and open waters, and a Gale Watch is in effect
starting late Saturday night. Gales to 45 knots are expected
across the open waters, and a few storm force gusts aren't
entirely out of the question for a brief time Sunday afternoon.
There will be a small window of quiet weather on Monday, before
another strong system approaches the area Tuesday and Wednesday.
Gales are likely to occur with this system as well.
