The front will mostly serve as a wind shift, with winds turning

lifting along the SE coast Sunday, and then along the NC coast
Sunday night into Monday. Overall, models remain in good
agreement regarding the big picture with good run to run
consistency, but there's still some uncertainty with specifics
and timing. Models are now trending faster bringing in the
precip Sat (ECMWF now more like previous runs of the GFS).
Still looks like it will start as light rain, then likely
transition to a period of mixed precip, likely a rain/snow maybe
sleet mix, across the coastal plain late Saturday night into
the first part of Sunday. Added some light snow accumulation
(0.5" or less) for areas west of Hwy 17, with best chances
likely across our NW counties (Pitt and Martin)...though ECMWF
has consistently been showing snow accum further south towards
Duplin county. Still lots of uncertainty with regard to p-type
and amts, will continue to fine tune during later shifts. As the
low-levels warm, precipitation should change to rain Sunday
afternoon. Heaviest rain looks like Sun. No significant changes
to the QPF forecast as a storm total QPF of 1.5-3 inches still
looks to be on track, highest along the coast. Localized
flooding will be possible, best chances along the coast. A Flash
Flood Watch may be needed for coastal counties. Gusty ENE winds
develop Sunday, becoming more NNE Sun night and Monday, with
gusts 25-35 mph inland and 40-50 mph along the coast. Wind
Advisories will likely be needed along the coast later on.
Though the GFS continues to be slightly faster than the ECMWF
moving the initial surface low to the ENE, both models continue
to show upper low moving through the TN Valley region and into
the Carolinas on the backside of the initial surface low late
Monday and Tuesday, inducing additional cyclogenesis off the
coast (in response to amplifying northern stream wave). Periods
of rain will continue through Monday. Depending on the amount
of moisture and thermal profiles, some wintry type precip will
be possible again across portions of Eastern NC Mon. night and
early Tue. A wintry mix will be possible, with the potential for
additional light snow accumulation, mainly for areas along and
west of Hwy 17. Still alot of uncertainty.
Many impacts are likely to be felt across the region this
weekend into early next week, including heavy rain, strong
winds along the coast, coastal flooding, rough surf, and
potential winter weather. Please see tides/coastal flooding
section below for additional information.
Wednesday through Thursday...Looks like it finally dries out
Tue night through Thu, with high pressure building in from the
southwest. Cool Wed with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s,
warming into the 50s Thu.

Short Term /through Saturday Morning/...
As of 640 AM Fri...VFR conditions are expected through the TAF
period. A dry cold front will move through this morning and
shift winds from W to N at 5-10 kts. Clouds will be increasing
early Saturday morning, ahead of a significant coastal storm,
however ceilings should remain at VFR levels through mid
morning at least.
Long Term /Saturday through Tuesday/...
As of 315 AM Fri...A prolonged period of sub-VFR conditions,
with periods of IFR likely, expected to develop across the
terminals late Saturday and continue through Monday. Periods of
moderate to heavy rain are likely Sunday with NE winds gusts
20-30 kt. Still much uncertainty, but a wintry mix will be
possible for the terminals, mainly PGV and ISO, late Saturday
night into Sunday, and perhaps again Monday afternoon/evening.

Short Term /Through Tonight/...
As of 250 AM Fri...Decent boating conditions will exist through
tonight. Winds are currently 15-20 kts, with seas 2-4 ft. A dry
cold front will move through the coastal waters later this
morning, and turn winds to the N at 15-20 kts, which will last
through tonight. Seas will remain steady at 2-4 ft, but there
could be a brief period tonight of 5 footers across the outer
central waters.
Long Term /Saturday through Tuesday/...
As of 315 AM Fri...A prolonged period of strong winds and
dangerous seas expected to develop late Saturday night and
Sunday and continue into early next week. An area of low
pressure is forecast to move through the Gulf states Saturday,
strengthening and lifting along the NC coast Sunday night into
Monday. N/NE winds 10-20 kt Sat, increasing to 20-25 kt Sat
night. Seas 2-4 ft Sat building to 4-6 ft Sat night. Gale force
winds likely to develop Sunday and continue into Monday, with
E/NE winds increasing to 25-35 kt with gusts to 40 knots or
higher likely. Have issued a Gale Watch for all the waters,
sounds and rivers. Some gusts to Storm Force is not out of the
question for the outer waters late Sunday into Monday. Sea are
expected to build to 10-15+ ft. Winds become more NNE Monday.
Winds expected to diminish to 20-25 kt by late Tue as high
pressure builds in from the west.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 315 AM Fri...An area of low pressure is forecast to
strengthen and lift off the NC coast Sunday night into Monday. A
prolonged period of strong winds are expected to develop Sunday
and continue through Monday night. Based on the current
forecast track and duration of strong winds, coastal flooding,
rough surf and beach erosion will be likely. Minor to moderate
coastal flooding, with water level rises 2-3 ft above ground
(3-4 ft above normal) possible. Strong ENE winds begin Sunday,
so areas adjacent to the western end of the Pamlico Sound (in
Carteret, Craven, Pamlico, Beaufort, Mainland Hyde counties)
could see inundation. This could also cause problems along
coastal Onslow county, in and around the New River, with minor
water level rises possible. Winds become more NNE Sunday night
and Monday, with threat expanding to include the oceanside of
the Outer Banks (mainly north of Cape Hatteras) and soundside
Outer Banks, including Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. The
greatest threat for beach erosion, rough surf, and localized
ocean overwash will be for the beaches north of Cape Lookout.
Due to the prolonged period of strong winds and wave run up,
the coastal flood threat is likely to persist for a few days for
many coastal locations. Winds will slowly diminish through the
day Tuesday, with water levels improving.
