.Southeast and south winds will increase across the Shasta and
Rogue valleys today as a low pressure system approaches. This
evening into tonight winds will diminish in those valleys, but
will increase from the south and southwest across portions of
Klamath, Lake, and Modoc counties. The strongest winds east of the
Cascades are expected to occur Thursday.

* Winds...South to southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts 45 to 55 mph
  in the advisory. South to southwest 35 to 45 mph with gusts 60
  to 70 mph in the warning.

* Timing...Advisory level winds are expected to begin in the
  mountains Thursday evening and then expand into valley areas
  overnight and into Thursday. Warning level winds are expected 
  to begin in the higher terrain early Thursday morning and then 
  continue through Thursday afternoon.

* Locations include...Summer Lake, Silver Lake, Adel, Alkali Lake,
  and Valley Falls are in the advisory area. This advisory
  includes much of highway 395 north of Lakeview, as well as
  portions of Highway 140, and portions of Highway 20. The

.DISCUSSION...This afternoon through Friday night...Temperatures
are near to above what they were 24 hours ago as upper level
ridging moves overhead, resulting in a warming air mass. Tonight,
temperatures will be warmer than last night, partially due to
increasing clouds. Despite partly to mostly cloudy skies, tomorrow
will be warm again as southerly flow increases and the air mass
warms further. High temperatures should be about 5 degrees above
normal. Dense freezing fog near Roseburg is not expected again on
Wednesday morning (like occurred this morning), mainly due to
increasing high clouds.

A cold front reaches the coast late Wednesday and brings light to
moderate precipitation to the coast and inland areas through
Thursday morning. Ahead of the front, south winds will increase at
the coast, then inland over the mountains, Shasta Valley, and
eventually east of the Cascades. There's still some uncertainty
regarding wind impacts, mainly because of model run to run changes
(latest 18Z GFS shows some heftier coastal winds than previous
12Z run) and high variance amongst GEFS members for the evolution
of the surface low on Thursday. We are keeping a High Wind Watch
for portions of the East Side to include Highway 31 near Summer
Lake, but we are issuing a Wind Advisory for the Shasta Valley
because we are more confident on wind speeds for that location.
Winds may increase again to advisory strength in the Shasta Valley
on Thursday and will consider extending the advisory with
tomorrow's data if necessary. For the coast, nothing was shouting
High Wind situation with the 12Z models (again, 18Z GFS a little
more bullish on winds), but we'll continue to take a look at wind
potential in the next several shifts. Winds diminish Thursday
night behind the front.

Precipitation-wise, impacts are expected to be generally on the low
side, with the exception of the potential for brief periods of heavy
rain along the front at the Curry County Coast Wednesday night and
again Thursday night as another piece of energy and moisture pushes
into the coast. Friday could be a showery day across the forecast
area as instability interacts with shortwave energy passing through.
Uncertainty increases some Saturday due to significant differences
between operational models and amongst GEFS members in terms of how
cold the air mass is...and precipitation amounts. Snow levels will
generally be 5000 feet and higher through Friday, and snow
amounts are not expected to be very high. For instance, about a
foot of snow is possible at Crater Lake in the 48 hour period from
late Wednesday through late Friday. In trying to pin down a
timeframe where roadways could see the most snow, Friday night and
early Saturday morning looks like the best bet for accumulating
snows on mountain passes about 5000 feet and higher.

Saturday through Tuesday...Weak ridging will build into the area
Saturday. However it's questionable as to how much if any
precipitation we'll get. The ECMWF shows a dry solution while the
GFS and Canadian show a slightly stronger shortwave coming in from
the southwest which could trigger scattered light precipitation
Saturday afternoon. For now we'll keep a slight chance mention in
Southwest Oregon and western Siksyou county. Snow levels Saturday
afternoon will range between 5500 and 6000 feet. Road snow impacts
Saturday should be minimal due to warm road temperatures and
light precipitation.

Regarding Sunday and Monday, the ECMWF is the wettest of the bunch.
The GFS shows a dry solution and the Canadian is mainly dry with the
trough axis positioned further offshore (near 140w). The GFS
individual ensemble members are all over the place with the position
of the upper trough. The ECMWF spread is not as much. If the ridge
to the east amplifies enough as suggested by the operational
models, then this could slow down the eastward progression of the
upper trough contrary to what the operational ECMWF shows. Therefore
the forecast in this time period will lean towards the slower
progression of the upper trough. This means drier and milder weather
Sunday and Monday. Even if we get precipitation, snow levels during
this time will be high given the colder air mass will still be well
offshore.

The front will inch closer to the Oregon coast Monday night and
Tuesday. I know this is a ways out, but there's some indications we
could be looking at moderate to strong winds in the Shasta Valley
and Rogue Valley. Of course the details could change given the
timing differences among the models. This would also apply to snow
levels which could end up higher Tuesday if the front and colder air
mass behind it is slower to arrive. -Petrucelli

for most of the area through the most of the TAF period. High clouds
will continue to move in and become thicker tonight, which may help
hinder fog development, but still believe there will be some
localized fog and low cigs brings IFR to portions of the Umpqua
valleys tomorrow morning around 16 or 17Z -Schaaf.

.MARINE...Updated 130 PM PST Tuesday 06 Mar 2018...Weak high
pressure will persist over the waters through Tuesday, maintaining
calm conditions with light to moderate winds and seas between 7 and
8 feet. A strong storm system will approach the waters Wednesday
evening, with south winds increasing over the waters late Wednesday
evening and persisting into Thursday morning. Have issued a gale
warning for this time period. The gales will mainly be from 7 to 30
nm from shore north of Gold Beach, but steep, hazardous seas will
continue for the rest of the area. For simplicity, have gone with
the gale warning with small craft advisory conditions less than
three miles from shore.

Additionally, a few storm force gusts will be possible as this storm
moves in. Seas will remain steep and hazardous through Friday
morning as we transition from wind generated waves to a fresh
southwest swell. Conditions improve Friday and continue through
Saturday before the next system arrives Sunday evening. -Schaaf
