Skies are cloudy across the forecast area early this morning with
temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to lower 60s. A cold
front currently extends from northeast Kansas through western
Oklahoma and into southwest Texas. This front will move east today
and be into central Arkansas by late this afternoon. Numerous
showers are expected to develop ahead of the front today with an
isolated thunderstorm possible this afternoon and early this
evening. Temperatures will remain mild for this time of year with
highs in the mid to upper 60s.
The cold front will move through the forecast area tonight. Ahead
of the front rain showers will continue to move through the
forecast area. Behind the front, temperatures will drop rapidly
and precipitation will change over to freezing rain, then sleet
and eventually into snow. Some light ice accumulation is possible
mainly west of the Mississippi River overnight so a Winter Weather
Advisory will be in effect starting at midnight tonight. As the
change over starts to occur east of the Mississippi River toward
morning, a Winter Weather Advisory is now effect for several
counties in northwest Mississippi starting at 3 AM Friday morning.
The remaining areas that were in a Winter Storm Watch remain so.
On Friday, the cold front will be east of the forecast area with
parts of northeast Mississippi starting out the morning with rain
before a change to freezing rain and sleet. Wintry precipitation
will continue over the remainder of the forecast area Friday
morning with snow starting to end over far western sections of the
forecast area in the afternoon. Temperatures will be much colder
than today with highs in the upper 20s to upper 30s. Total ice
accumulation of up to .2 inches is expected. Total snow and sleet
accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is possible especially over
portions of West Tennessee.
High pressure will start to build into the region by Friday night
with snow ending over eastern sections of the forecast area in the
evening. Temperatures will be on the cold side with lows Saturday
morning in the upper teens to lower 20s. High pressure will remain
over the region Sunday bringing mainly dry and cold weather. A
weak disturbance will move across parts of West Tennessee on
Sunday evening which may produce a little light snow. A cold front
will move across the region from the north on Monday bringing more
precipitation starting in the afternoon and continuing into the
evening.
High pressure will build back into the region by Tuesday bringing
more dry and cold weather for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Occasional rain showers will continue today with IFR/MVFR ceilings
persisting through early evening. A strong cold front will march
southeast across the CWA this evening into the early morning
hours. Winds will shift from the northwest at 20g30kts behind the
front and will remain gusty through Friday afternoon. Expect
deteriorating flight conditions as ceilings fall to IFR overnight.
Rain is forecast to change over to freezing rain and sleet as the
cold, post-frontal airmass deepens, eventually switching over to
snow. Ice and snow accumulations are likely at all forecast
terminals with lightest impact expected at KTUP.
