.DISCUSSION...

WV imagery shows upper-lvl split flow has ended over West Texas and
Southeast New Mexico as yesterday's trough exits thru the MS Valley.
 In its place is a ridge moving out of the Rockies, followed by a
trough on the west coast.  At the sfc, light and variable winds and
radiational cooling are narrowing the T-Td spreads for possible fog
development later on.  However, sat imagery shows some high cloud
moving thru the ridge from the west coast trough that may retard
more widespread fog development than otherwise.

Ridging will be brief over the next 24 hours, but should allow temps
this afternoon to approach normal.  The aforementioned west coast
trough will move quickly east today, and move thru West Texas and
Southeast New Mexico tonight.  Leeside troughing on the Front Range
will veer sfc flow to SW-W as the trough moves thru.  The NAM shows
a modest mtn wave signature developing in the Guadalupes overnight,
enough to yield marginally high winds there, and so we've pulled the
trigger on a High Wind Warning there overnight.  This westerly
component will add a little downslope warming Fri, pushing temps
above normal during the afternoon.  Sat, zonal flow aloft follows
the trough, and afternoon temps should top out in the 70s most.
locations, for the warmest day this forecast.  Forecast soundings at
KGDP mix to around 800mb during the afternoon, where westerly flow
35-40kts is forecast. This should again yield marginally high winds
thru the Guadalupes, and we've gone ahead and issued a High Wind
Watch for then.

Sat night, a dry secondary trough will move thru the Central Plains.
Unfortunately, this one will be accompanied by a cold front, which
models bring thru KMAF at around 09Z Sun.  This will take highs
Sun/Mon into the 50s most areas.  Temps then warm back up to above-
normal by Wed under NW flow aloft.

The only other item of note in the extended continues to be a
shortwave moving thru the region sometime around the beginning of
next week.  However, long-range models continue to differ on both
the timing and placement of this feature.  The GFS, as is typical,
is fastest, and brings the trough thru the Big Bend area Sun night,
whereas the Canadian lags by a few hours and keeps all activity
south of the river.  Other models lag the trough until Mon night or
even later.  Because of this, and the fact that very little moisture
will be in place after Sat night's front, we've opted to keep the
grids dry.
