.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front will continue to lift to our north tonight, before a
cold front sweeps across the area on Wednesday as an area of low
pressure moves out of the Great Lakes tonight and through New
England Wednesday. High pressure builds across the area Thursday
into Thursday night. A warm front will lift across the area Friday,
before a cold front sweeps across the area later Friday as an area
of low pressure moves across New England to our north. An area of
low pressure will pass just to our south late Friday into Saturday,
keeping unsettled weather across the area. High pressure is expected
later Sunday into Sunday night, before another potential low
pressure system approaches the area later Monday into Monday night.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of mid afternoon, a rather ill-defined warm front is working
its way north into VA as the low clouds erode and temperatures
rise into the 50s and 60s. Some showers and isold T-storms are
moving across the WV panhandle and western MD area to near DC
and Baltimore,but areas farther south are dry.
The warm front should continue to lift through the forecast
area this evening and away to the north overnight, as low
pressure moves northeast through the GrtLks and intensifies. In
the warm sector of the low with south winds and mid- to high-
level cloud cover, temps overnight should remain about steady
possibly rise a couple of degrees.
Wednesday will feature a strong cold frontal passage mainly
during the morning hours, with the front reaching the Atlantic
Coast by around 18z. A band of showers and likely a few t-storms
will accompany the front. Instability looks marginal but the
dynamics with the upper trof are quite strong so there may be
some damaging wind gusts with the band. Also, winds behind the
front look strong enough to warrant advisory, which will be
issued as soon as some technical difficulties are resolved.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
This period should be mostly dry as seasonally cold high
pressure moves by to the south on Thursday and offshore Thursday
night. Temperature however will be well below normal. Later on
Thursday night warm advection ahead of the next system may
produce some light rain or a wintry mix over eastern WV and
northern/western Md.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
There is the potential for an extended period of unsettled weather
through the extended forecast, with only a couple of days of dry
weather possible.
On Friday, an area of low pressure will be lifting out of the Great
Lakes region and into New England during the day. This will lift a
warm front across our area early in the day, before a cold front
sweeps across the area during the afternoon. There will be a chance
of showers both as the warm front lifts across the area and the cold
front as well. Another concern on Friday will be the gusty winds
expected, especially for the first half of the day. Winds are
expected to easily gust 25 to 35 mph, with some higher gusts
possible, especially higher elevations.
On Friday night into Saturday, an area of low pressure will be
moving eastward along the frontal boundary to our south. Even though
the low is expected to remain to our south, we expect overrunning
moisture to spread across the area during this period. There will
likely be enough cold air in place for snow to fall with this
system, which could lead to some accumulation across the area.
However, it is possible that much of the precipitation could fall
during the day Saturday, which may help to limit snow accumulations
in some areas. The precipitation is expected to taper off during the
evening as the low pressure moves away from the area.
Sunday will be one of the dry periods during the extended forecast
as high pressure builds across the area.
Then uncertainty returns to the forecast. Long term models all show
the potential for another storm system to approach the area.
However, there is timing differences between the guidance. The GFS
has the storm system moving through the area as early as Sunday
night into Monday night, while the ECMWF is as late as Tuesday and
Tuesday night, and the Canadian is in between for Monday into
Tuesday. So we will continue with a chance of precipitation, from
Sunday night through Tuesday, with the highest chances Monday and
Monday night.

.AVIATION /19Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
For later this afternoon and evening, flying condition should
be generally improving south to north as a warm front works its
way across the area. Timing is rather uncertain, but VFR
conditions seem likely by 00 or 01z. There could be some
occasional MVFR overnight in showers or areas of fog. A strong
low-level SWly jet is forecast to develop overnight so the TAFs
indicate low-level wind shear.
A cold front will surge across the area by midday Wednesday. A
line of showers (perhaps a thunderstorm) will accompany the
front and may contain gusty winds. Behind the front, strong
gusts of 30+ kt will continue for the remainder of the day. High
pressure will bring VFR conditions and lighter winds Wednesday
night through Thursday night.
A warm front will lift north of the area early on Friday, before a
cold front sweeps across the area during the day. Scattered shower
may move across the area, but generally VFR conditions are expected.
Winds will likely become quite gusty, with gusts reaching 25 to 35
knots from the south to southwest early, then west to northwest
late.
An area of low pressure is expected to move to our south late Friday
into Saturday. Even with the low to our south, precipitation will
likely spread northward across the area, possibly in the form of
snow, leading to a period of IFR conditions later Friday night into
Saturday.
Later Saturday night into Sunday, high pressure will return to the
area, leading to VFR conditions.

.MARINE...
South winds are forecast to increase tonight ahead of an
approaching cold front, with SCA conditions developing for all
waters. The cold front will sweep across the waters during
midday to early afternoon Wednesday. A line of showers and
thunderstorms could produce gusty winds. Then gale force wind
gusts in NW flow will be possible behind the front, so a Gale
Warning has been raised. SCA conditions will then continue for
portions of the waters Wednesday night and Thursday before
subsiding with high pressure. Southerly flow will then take hold
Thursday night.
A warm front will lift north of the area early Friday, before a cold
front sweeps through later on Friday. Winds will likely reach at
least Small Craft Advisory levels, and possibly up to gale force
during the day Friday into Friday night.
An area of low pressure will pass just to our south Friday night
through Saturday. So Small Craft Advisory level winds may continue
into Saturday.
Although high pressure builds back into the area by Sunday, winds
may still gust up to 20 knots Saturday night through Sunday.
