.SYNOPSIS...
The skies will clear and temperatures will warm above normal as
gusty offshore winds beneath high pressure aloft take ahold of
the weather pattern through early next week. The warmest days,
possible record setting, will be Sunday and Monday. Then, onshore
flow from Tuesday through Thursday will cool temperatures under
partly cloudy skies.

.SHORT TERM...(TNT-MON)
The latest satellite imagery indicates ridging aloft centered
about 700 miles west-southwest of Los Angeles this evening. This
ridge centered near 30N and 130W will continue to build in
through the weekend and a bring a warming and drying trend through
Monday.
A weak disturbance, currently off the North Coast of California
and moving over the top of the ridge, will drop into the Great
Basin through Saturday. As a cold air mass settles into the Great
Basin with the disturbance, the flow pattern will switch from a
northerly flow to a northeasterly flow, or offshore flow pattern.
The latest NAM-WRF solutions keep moderate to strong offshore flow
in play, tightening the pressure gradient to -8.3 mb between KLAX
and KDAG and -6.1 mb between KSBA and KBFL Monday morning. At
least, advisory level Santa Ana winds could develop for a period
between Saturday night and Monday.
A high wind watch is being considered for the Mountains of Los
Angeles and Ventura Counties between late Saturday night and
Sunday afternoon due to gusty Santa Ana winds. NAM-WRF solutions
increase 850 mb winds to 45 knots over Los Angeles County and 50
knots at 950 mb along the Los Angeles and Ventura County Line.
Wind advisories will likely be needed for the Ventura and Los
Angeles County Valleys between Saturday night and Sunday, and
possibly for the Ventura and Los Angeles County Coastal areas as
the timing and wind speeds become more clear. The forecast will
wait for additional information before issuing any headlines.
Near record heat is forecast for Sunday and Monday as
compressional heating warms the air mass. Monday looks to be the
warmest day when offshore pressure gradients at strongest offshore
and the air mass stagnates somewhat.
.LONG TERM...(TUE-FRI)
The ridge breaks down a little Tue/Wed as a trough moves through
to the north. So we'll see a big onshore trend Tue and lead to
several degrees of cooling through mid week, especially closer to
the coast, though it will still be 5-10 degrees above normal
area-wide. Somewhat conflicting signals for the end of the week as
the GFS rebuilds the ridge over the area while the ECMWF is slower
to build the heights up. So while confidence is high the forecast
will remain dry through the period, and likely well into the
following week as well, temperature trends late next week are
somewhat uncertain, but at this time favoring the warmer solution
as that has been the prevailing condition most of this winter.

At 00Z, the marine layer depth was around 450 feet deep at KLAX.
The top of the marine inversion was around 1200 feet with a
temperature near 15 degrees Celsius.
VFR conditions are expected throughout the period, except for a
chance of LIFR to IFR conditions at KPRB between 10Z and 17Z.
There is a chance of moderate wind shear and turbulence at
terminals south of Point Conception through 16Z.
KLAX...VFR conditions are expected throughout the period. There is
a 30 percent chance of moderate wind shear and turbulence through
16Z.
KBUR...VFR conditions are expected throughout the period. There is
a 30 percent chance of moderate wind shear and turbulence through
16Z.

Outer and Inner Waters North of Point Sal: SCA for hazardous seas
will continue over the waters from Point Sal to Point Piedras
Blancas tonight into early Saturday morning. Gust to 25 knots may
occur beyond 10 NM during this time. SCA conditions due to
northerly winds and large will likely continue through Saturday
evening for the Outer Waters from San Nicolas Island to Point
Conception. There is a 20 percent chance of at least brief SCA
conditions due to winds across the Outer Waters from Point Piedras
Blancas to Point Sal Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening.
Inner Waters south of Point Conception:
SCA conditions due to offshore winds are likely by Sunday morning
and continuing into the afternoon, focused in the Inner Waters
from Ventura to Santa Monica as well as from Palos Verdes to
Catalina Island, where wind gusts to 30 kts are possible. There
is a 50 percent chance of SCA conditions across this region
continuing into Monday.
The gusty offshore winds may be capable of producing breaking
waves at the Avalon Harbor late Saturday night into Sunday,
potentially continuing at times into Monday.

.FIRE WEATHER...26/100 PM.
On Saturday, there will be a mix of gusty north to northeast
winds across the fire district with gusts generally in the 30 to
45 mph range. Humidities on Saturday are expected to lower to
between 10 and 20 percent across most areas of Los Angeles and
Ventura counties, bringing elevated fire weather conditions. A
moderate to strong Santa Ana is then expected to begin Saturday
evening and continue through Monday morning. The peak of this
event is expected to be Saturday night into Sunday, when gusts
between 55 and 65 mph can be expected across the mountains of Los
Angeles and Ventura counties, with gusts between 40 and 50 mph
across coastal and valley areas. On Sunday and Monday mornings,
the LAX-Daggett pressure gradient is expected to peak near -8 mb
with moderate upper level wind support. Meanwhile, minimum
humidities on Sunday and Monday are expected to range between 10
and 20 percent with poor overnight recoveries. Temperatures will
near record high territory on Sunday and Monday with highs well
into the 80s in the valleys and coasts. This is a solid 20 degrees
higher than today and will add to the drying effect of already
critically dry fuels. Elevated fire conditions will exist for
coastal Los Angeles and Ventura Counties due to the gusty Santa
Ana winds and low humidities at times. Any new fire ignitions will
have the potential for large fire growth and rapid fire spread
due to these stronger winds and continued dry fuels.
