.SYNOPSIS...26/1019 PM.
A low will bring partly cloudy skies through next week, except for
the coast and some valley locations where overnight low clouds and
fog occur. Breezy north winds may occur from Friday to Monday.
Another low should arrive with possible precipitation on Tuesday.
The temperatures will be near normal into next week, then go above
normal as a high approaches on Thursday.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-SUN)...27/152 AM.
Overall, 00Z models in good synoptic agreement through the period.
At upper levels, low currently off the Central CA coast will move
inland across northern CA this weekend. Near the surface, moderate
west to northwest flow will remain through the weekend.
Forecast-wise, main concern will be the winds. With strengthening
northerly offshore gradients the next couple of days, gusty
Sundowner winds will be possible across southern Santa Barbara
county. Given current forecast pressure gradients (SBA-SMX
ranging between -4.0 and -4.7 mb) and low level wind forecasts
from high resolution models, low end advisory-level Sundowner
winds are possible both late this afternoon/tonight and again
late Saturday afternoon/night. So, will issue a WIND ADVISORY for
southern Santa Barbara county 6 PM this evening through 5 AM
Saturday (with the possibility the advisory will need to be
extended by future shifts through Saturday night). For the
Antelope Valley, strong onshore gradients this afternoon (LAX-DAG
8.2 mb) will result in low end advisory-level westerly winds this
afternoon and tonight. So, will issue a WIND ADVISORY from 2 PM
this afternoon through 3 AM Saturday morning. Other areas that
will need to be watched today will be the Central Coast as well as
the Interstate 5 corridor where advisory-level winds would not be
out of the question.
As for cloud cover, expect a rather mixed bag through the weekend.
With lowering H5 heights (as upper low moves across northern CA),
the marine inversion will deepen this weekend. However, stratus
development will be hindered by developing northerly flow. So,
will anticipate this morning will be the most widespread stratus
coverage with plentiful low clouds across the Central Coast as
well as Ventura/LA counties. For tonight through Sunday, will
expect any stratus to be confined to LA county coast and San
Gabriel Valley. Additionally, the northerly flow should bank up
some moisture across inland Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo counties
as well as the northern mountain slopes which should result in
some cloud development tonight and again Saturday night in these
areas.
As for temperatures, will expect only minor day-to-day changes
across the area through Sunday, based on local vagaries of the
marine layer and pressure gradients. Generally, all areas will
remain 2-5 degrees below seasonal normals through Sunday.
.LONG TERM (MON-THU)...27/212 AM.
Overall, 00Z models indicate good synoptic agreement through
the period. At upper levels, low will swing south across CA
Monday/Tuesday then into the 4 Corners area Wednesday/Thursday.
Near the surface, moderate west to northwest flow will continue
through the period.
Forecast-wise, Monday will be relatively similar to Sunday, albeit
with a little less west to northwest winds and slightly cooler
temperatures. As for clouds on Monday, there will be some morning
stratus across LA county and a gradual increase in high clouds for
all areas through the day.
On Tuesday, both the GFS and ECMWF move a weak upper low over the
area with the GFS indicating a bit further westerly track.
Moisture is limited with this system, although the GFS track would
be able to gather a bit more moisture. Both models spit out some
QPF, mainly over Ventura/LA counties. So, have tweaked POP
forecast to bump up precipitation chances for Ventura and LA
counties. There is an outside chance that San Luis Obispo and
Santa Barbara counties could get some precipitation also
(depending on the exact track of the upper low), but chances are
too low to mention at this time. At this time, rainfall totals
across Ventura/LA counties would be light, generally under one
quarter of an inch.
For Wednesday/Thursday, dry conditions are anticipated as upper
low will be east of the area. Additionally, there should be a
gradual warming trend for all areas Wednesday and Thursday.

.AVIATION...27/0001Z.
At 2323Z at KLAX, the marine layer was near 1000 feet deep. The top
of the inversion was near 2100 feet with a temperature around 16
deg C.
Moderate confidence overall in the 00Z TAFs. A marine layer pattern
with low clouds and IFR/MVFR cigs is expected for much of the coast
and adjacent vly airfields tonight and Fri morning. Low clouds are
forecast to develop between 02Z at KSMO and KLAX to 0830Z at KVNY,
then clear to VFR between late Fri morning to early Fri afternoon,
with the latest clearing expected at KOXR around 21Z Fri afternoon.
The timing of the onset and clearing of the low clouds could be off
+/- an hour or two.
For KPRB, there should be a period of low clouds and mostly LIFR/IFR
cigs from about 05Z-1730Z as well. Otherwise, VFR conditions can be
expected thru Fri afternoon.
For KSBA, some northerly canyon winds in the vicinity tonight into
Fri morning should help to keep low clouds away from the airfield
thru Fri afternoon, with VFR conditions expected during the period.
However, there is still a 20% chance of low clouds and IFR or MVFR
cigs at the airfield early to mid Fri morning.
For KWJF and KPMD, hi confidence in the 00Z TAFs with VFR conditions
through Fri afternoon. Gusty SW to W winds can also be expected
for much of the TAF period.
KLAX...Moderate confidence overall in the 00Z TAF. Low clouds with
MVFR cigs are expected from about 02Z-20Z tonight and Fri, with VFR
conditions for the rest of the afternoon and evening. The timing of
the onset and clearing of the low clouds could be off +/- an hour or
two.
KBUR...Moderate confidence overall in the 00Z TAF. Low clouds with
MVFR cigs are expected from about 08Z-18Z tonight and Fri morning,
with VFR conditions for the rest of the time. The timing of the
onset and clearing of the low clouds could be off +/- an hour or two.

.MARINE...27/249 AM.
Mostly good confidence in an extended period of strong NW winds
across the outer waters through early next week, with period of
gusty SCA level winds across the inner waters as well.
Good confidence that SCA level winds will increase to Gale Force
across the southern two thirds of the outer waters zones (PZZ673
and PZZ676) this afternoon, and continue through at least late
Sunday night. There is a 30-40% chance that gales will continue
through Mon night. Across the northern outer water zone (PZZ670),
good confidence in SCA level winds through Mon night or Tue. Winds
could get close to gale force in that zones, especially across
southern sections during the afternoon and evening hours through Mon.
Across the inner waters north of Pt Conception, expect SCA level
winds during the afternoon and evening each day through Tue. A SCA
is in effect from this afternoon through late tonight, and will
probably be needed each day through Tue.
For the inner waters south of Pt Conception...SCA winds are
likely, especially across western portions of the zones during the
afternoon and evening hours today Tue.
