.SYNOPSIS...06/341 AM.
High pressure aloft will peak in strength today before weakening
in response to a cold front moving through the region early this
weekend. Increasing clouds with showers, most likely north of
Point Conception, will bring cooler conditions by Saturday.
Moderate to strong offshore flow will support clear skies, warmer
conditions and locally gusty winds Sunday night into Monday.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-SUN)...06/257 AM.
A plume of moisture is moving into and over the north portion of
the state and rain was falling as fall south as the Bay Area. The
high cloud deck that covered SoCal last evening is pushing off to
the east and skies today will be partly cloudy save for Nrn SLO
county which will see increasing clouds as the system to the north
sags south. Some low clouds are developing across western SBA
county as well. A chance of rain will develop over SLO county in
the afternoon but it could well stay dry as the system is not
moving all that fast.
Friday night into Saturday morning the cold front associated
with a low off of the Oregon coast will enter the moisture stream
and will tilt it to a SW to NE orientation and get it moving. Rain
will move down the Central Coast overnight.
Where Saturday once looked pretty wet everywhere it now looks
like this system will mostly be a rainmaker for SLO and Western
SBA counties. The front weakens considerably when it rounds Pt
Conception and rain totals for the Ventura and Los Angeles Co
coasts and valleys will likely be between zero and a tenth. The
system will exit the area from the NW to the SE Saturday afternoon
and by evening all that will be left are some mountains clouds
and a chance of north slope showers.
Rainfall will range from as much as 1.25" across NW SLO county
down to a quarter inch in the southern and eastern portion of the
county. SBA county should see between tenth and a third of an
inch, while Ventura and Los Angeles counties will likely receive
no more than a tenth of an inch, with slightly higher amounts in
the mountains.
There is little or no south flow with this system, little or no
convective threat, and really no dynamic forcing to speak of. All
told this system will not poise a threat to the recent burn areas.
Snow levels will be above 10,000 feet and snow will not be an
issue. There maybe a flurry or two after the front passes Saturday
night but no accumulation.
Hgts are fairly high and despite the cloud cover max temps will
only be a few degrees blo normal.
Winds may turn out to be a bigger issue than the rain. A moderate
West to East gradient has already generated advisory level wind
gusts across portions of the Antelope vly. These winds will
increase a little more after the front passes later today. A wind
advisory is in effect for the AV through Sunday Afternoon. Strong
offshore flow from the north develops Saturday night in the wake
of the front. Additional wind advisories are likely for the mtns
from eastern SBA county through western LA county. The I-5
corridor will likely be hardest hit.
Conditions will be dry and warmer on Sunday as high pressure
returns and gradients trend offshore. Max temps will jump 2 to 5
degrees Sunday. Max temps across the coasts and valleys will be 2
to 4 degrees above normal.
.LONG TERM (MON-THU)...06/309 AM.
A 582 DM ridge settles over the state on Monday. At the same time
sfc high pressure settles into the great basin and sets up a weak
Santa Ana event. It looks like Monday is going to be the warmest
day of the next 7. Right now have plenty of mid 80s forecast for
the vlys but have noticed that the airmass is now a little warmer
that it was previously forecast. Max temps may well need a little
bump up from the current forecast.
A weak trof moves over the Central Coast on Tuesday. It will bring
an increase in clouds and onshore trends along with a cooling
temps. At one point there was some SLO county rain associated
with this system but now all mdls agree that the rain will stay
well to the north. Max temps will be 3 to 6 degrees cooler but
will still be above normal.
A series of little trofs move across the state Wed and Thu. The EC
actually brings a little light rain to the Central Coast on
Thursday (the GFS is dry) There will be an increase in clouds... A
steady lowering of hgts and an increase in onshore flow all of
which will add up to a steady cooling trend with near normal max
temps Wed and blo normal max temps on Thu.

.AVIATION...06/0535Z.
At 0455Z at KLAX, the marine layer was near 1200 feet deep. The top
of the inversion was at 4200 feet with a temperature of 17 degrees
Celsius.
Moderate confidence overall in the 00Z TAFs. There is a 50% chance
of low clouds and MVFR conditions at KSMX late tonight into Fri
morning, and there is a 60% chance of MVFR cigs with a chance of
rain Fri evening at KSBP. There is a 50% chance of IFR cigs at KOXR
from about 12Z-18Z Fri. There is also a 50%-60% chance of low clouds
and IFR/MVFR cigs late tonight and Fri morning at KSMO, KLAX, KLGB,
KBUR and KVNY, and a return of low clouds and MVFR cigs Fri evening
for KSMO, KLAX and KLGB. The timing of the onset and any dissipation
of the low clouds could be off +/- and hour or two. Otherwise, VFR
conditions can be expected at these airfields thru Fri evening.
At KPRB, VFR conditions are expected thru Fri afternoon followed by
a 60%-70% chance of MVFR cigs with a chance of rain Fri evening.
For KCMA, KPMD and KWJF, VFR conditions are expected thru Fri
evening, altho there is a 20% chance of IFR/MVFR cigs at KCMA later
tonight into Fri morning. Strong and gusty W to NW winds will affect
KPMD and KWJF thru the period as well.
KLAX...Moderate confidence overall in the 00Z TAF. There is a 50%-
60% chance of low clouds and MVFR cigs late tonight and Fri morning,
and again Fri evening and Fri night. The timing of the onset and
dissipation of the low clouds could be off +/- and hour or two.
Otherwise, VFR conditions can be expected.
KBUR...Moderate confidence overall in the 00Z TAF. There is a 50%-
60% chance of low clouds and IFR cigs late tonight and Fri morning.

For the Outer Waters, moderate confidence in current forecast.
Small Craft Advisory (SCA) is in effect for the two lower outer
water zones now through late tonight. Winds across the northern
outer waters will see local gusts to 25 knots across the very
southern portion, but most of the zone will remain below (SCA)
thresholds. For Saturday and Sunday, there is a 70% chance of SCA
level winds developing.
For the Inner Waters, moderate confidence in current forecast. For
the waters north of Point Sal, there is a 50% chance of SCA level
winds Saturday afternoon and evening, and likely for Sunday as
well. For the waters south of Point Conception, a SCA is in
affect for the western portion of PZZ650 from 9 am this morning through
tonight, as well as PZZ655 from noon today through tonight.
Strongest across the western portion and especially NW portion
near the Channel Islands this evening. there is a 60% chance of
SCA level winds over PZZ650 and PZZ655 once again on Saturday. The
chance decreases on Sunday. However, there will be a 40% chance
that SCA will be needed for a moderate Santa Ana wind event.
Better chance on Monday morning with stronger offshore winds.

.BEACHES...06/338 AM.
A moderately strong westerly swell moving into the Eastern Pacific
will be approaching the Southern and Central California Coast by
Saturday late afternoon or evening. Low end High Surf Advisories
are in place for all west facing beaches from San Luis Obispo
County to Los Angeles County. The Central Coast will experience
surf of 9 to 12 feet from early Sunday morning through early
Monday Morning. West facing beaches of Santa Barbara, Ventura and
Los Angeles Counties will likely see surf between 5 and 7 feet
with local sets to 8 feet between Saturday evening through early
Monday morning.
Main concern will be the dangerous RIP currents and sneaker waves
which could knock people off jetties and across the surf zone.
Don't turn your back to the surf during the high surf. Swim near
lifeguard stations if you can.
