There will be isolated showers or snow flurries over northern
mountain slopes through this morning. Breezy northwest to north
winds will persist over the area through Monday, then shift to the
northeast on Tuesday. High pressure will build in allowing for a
gradual yet significant warming trend through Friday this week,
before gradual cooling into next weekend.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-TUE)...25/245 AM.
GOES-16 IR Satellite imagery indicated the tail end of an upper
level trough just clipping the northern portion of the forecast
area with high clouds moving through the area. The northerly flow
at the lower levels associated with the passing trough has
brought plenty of low clouds banking up against the northern
slopes of the Ventura and NW LA County mountains as well as the
San Gabriel Mountains this morning. There will continue to be a
chance of snow flurries for these areas including the Tejon Pass
through mid morning. Snow levels are down to 3500-4000 ft this
morning. Not expecting any snow accumulations on Highway 5 this
morning. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy skies for most areas, but
some coastal areas could remain mostly sunny today.
A wind advisory has been issued for the Antelope Valley starting
at noon today with westerly winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts
to 50 mph. Winds strongest across the western portion of the
Antelope Valley today. Winds are expected to shift to the north by
this evening bringing gusty conditions across the I-5 Corridor
and the Santa Barbara County Mountains and wind prone passes and
canyons of the Santa Barbara South Coast this evening through
early Monday morning. For now, have issued a wind advisory for the
LA/VTU County Mountains from this evening through mid morning
Monday. Northerly winds will filter south through the Santa
Clarita and San Fernando Valleys then into West L.A. tonight into
Monday morning. Have left Santa Barbara County out of the
advisory, but it could be close enough for the day shift to add a
wind advisory for that location valid this evening through the
overnight hours. High temps today will trend 3 to 5 degrees cooler
behind the cold front with highs across coast and valleys only
reaching the upper 50s to lower 60s. Not anticipating any freeze
issues for tonight into Monday morning for coast and LA/VTU county
valleys, especially because of the winds.
By Monday the upper level trough will deepen as it moves into
Southern AZ. The position of the upper trough will be conducive
for decent northerly upper level support with winds. the LAX-BFL
gradient is expected to be around -4.8 MB Monday morning and -4.5
MB Monday afternoon. Expect northerly winds to affect the same
areas once again Monday evening into early Tue morning. Winds are
then expected to shift to the northeast in a more typical Santa
Ana event. At this time, it looks like offshore winds will be
strong enough to justify a wind advisory in the usual wind prone
areas of LA/VTU Counties.
As far as temps go Monday and Tue...there will be widespread
warming of 3 to 6 degrees Monday as the upper trough moves east
and heights and thickness lvls are on the rise. There will be
additional warming Tuesday, with significant warming across the
Coast and Coastal Valleys Tuesday due to the offshore winds.
Expect highs to reach the mid 70s for LA/VTU Coast and valleys,
and the Central Coast will also see a rise in temps due to the San
Lucia weak offshore winds. Highs across the Central Coast should
bump up 6 degrees on Tue with highs reaching the upper 60s to
lower 70s. Skies should be mostly clear Monday/Tuesday.

Both the GFS and European models are in good agreement with large
scale features through the long term period through Sat. High
pressure aloft will anchor across the Eastern Pac. The combination
the upper ridge and weak offshore low level flow expected through
Friday will guarantee warmer than normal temps with highs across
coast and valleys into the 70s with a few valley locations
reaching the lower 80s. The upper ridge begins to break down late
this week. Expect a cooling trend with onshore flow returning. No
rain in site over the next several days.

forecast. SCA winds are expected tonight through Sunday night.
After a lull Monday morning, SCA winds should return for Monday
afternoon/evening. Short period seas are likely to persist through
this time, possibly at SCA levels (5-6 feet at 6-7 seconds). Gusty
offshore winds near SCA levels can be expected, especially near
shore from near Point Mugu to Santa Monica late Mon night into Tue
morning.
