...Freeze Expected Tonight into Thursday Morning...
Vigorous cold front and associated convection pushing into eastern
Kentucky, giving way to anomalously cold Canadian high pressure.
Strong cold advection today will limit any attempt at temp recovery,
keeping skies at least partly cloudy with temps stuck in the 40s
through the afternoon.
Main challenge is the potential for a freeze late tonight and
Thursday morning. High pressure overhead will allow winds to
decouple, and late afternoon clearing will mean a quick evening drop
in temps. Most locations will bottom out in the upper 20s to around
30, leaving mainly a question of impacts. Based on last week's
guidance from the University of Kentucky Ag Center, will post a
Freeze Warning for the Kentucky counties where vegetation has
progressed enough to be vulnerable, generally south of Interstate 64
and west of a line from Frankfort to Lake Cumberland. But it is
important to note that several hours of sub-freezing temps can be
expected throughout central Kentucky.

Active pattern and below normal temperatures will continue through
most of the extended. Main event is Friday night as a sheared out
Clipper swings through the Southern Plains and taps Gulf moisture,
while low-level cold air holds in over the Ohio Valley. Sfc
reflection in the models isn't overly strong, but could be some
phasing aloft with an upper low pinwheeling across eastern Canada.
Broad isentropic lift over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys should
generate decent QPF, and with air temps solidly below freezing and
the nocturnal timing, confidence is increasing that we could have
accumulating snow over much of the area. Best chance for significant
accumulation will be from 06-12Z Sat, generally along and north of
the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways. GFS is currently the
coldest solution, but even the warmer NAM has a decent snow band
near the Ohio River.
Otherwise another round of unseasonably cold weather this weekend,
with a good chance for a freeze yet again Sunday morning.
Yet another system may affect our area late Sunday and/or Monday as
flow aloft becomes WSW. Right now, whatever precip falls should be
in the form of rain, although a brief onset of mixed precip/snow is
possible over southern IN based on current model solutions.

Expect gusts 30-35 kts at times, especially at HNB/SDF/LEX. Stratus
has now lifted into VFR range and will become scattered by early

will lessen the winds and lead to a light/variable night.
