Currently, an area of light rain or sprinkles continues to propagate
eastward across central KY at this time (with a few heavier showers
over south-central KY). At the same time, a cold front is now
located along the OH Valley, and will head SE into central KY later
this morning and eventually stall out over northern-middle TN into
eastern/southeastern KY. As the front pushes through today, rain
will end and temperatures will be cooler than yesterday with highs
only around 50 in southern IN to the mid 50s in south-central KY.
Low clouds should hold over a good part of central KY.

For Easter Sunday today, the break in the precip will be very short-
lived as the next system races eastward across the lower OH Valley.
Models show a modest surface low developing along the front over
middle TN and then heading NE into southeastern KY. Aloft, a zone of
good isentropic lift and frontogenetical forcing will develop over
central KY late this afternoon and tonight, before moving east of
the area overnight. This will result in redevelopment of widespread
precip across the forecast area starting late this afternoon.

Precip will start as rain at all locations, but low-level
temperatures should fall quickly due to evaporative cooling over the
northern forecast area (especially southern IN). Models show varying
degrees of cooling, but overall still point to a possible changeover
or a mix of rain to sleet and/or snow briefly over parts of south-
central IN, but with the surface layer remaining above freezing
during the time of max precip. Once the precip moves out late
tonight, low-level (above the surface) temps actually warm a bit as
some drying occurs aloft. Thereafter, precip will end as (change
back to) light rain or drizzle over southern IN. Morning lows Monday
morning will hover right near 32 over the northern sections of our
southern IN counties, along with trapped low-level moisture.
Therefore, occasional drizzle and possibly a little freezing drizzle
could occur early Monday morning. If precip rates are high enough
for a short time this evening and if precip turns to snow (two
if's), then a coating is possible on grassy areas, but not expecting
significant impact.

The fast progression of weather systems continues Monday. Warm air
advection/isentropic lift aloft develops again Monday afternoon over
the mid MS Valley and into the lower OH Valley. This could bring
scattered showers to our western counties of central KY late in the
day or Monday evening. With ample cloud cover still in place, high
temperatures Monday afternoon should remain in the 50s, except
around 60 or lower 60s in south-central KY.

A very transitional and active extended forecast period is expected.

Monday night...

Scattered to perhaps numerous showers associated with warm air
advection/isentropic lift are expected over the western and northern
counties of our forecast area (i.e., especially along/west of I-65).
Model soundings all show lapse rates aloft becoming steeper with
some elevated instability. Thus, a few embedded heavier showers or
thunderstorms are possible. Temperatures may fall a bit Monday
evening from daytime highs, but then will become steady or perhaps
rise a few degrees overnight as a southerly surface wind begins to
kick in.

Tuesday - Tuesday night...

A significant weather system affects the lower OH and TN Valleys
during this period as a strong surface low develops over the central
Plains early Tuesday morning, then races northeast to the lower
Great Lakes by Tuesday night. A strong trailing cold front will
sweep eastward south of the low, while a warm front lifts north
early in the day across the OH Valley. This puts central KY and
southern IN into the warm section during the afternoon. Models all
show fairly steep elevated lapse rates continuing above a developing
subsidence inversion. Looks like scattered showers and storms early
in the day should lift northeast of our area during the day.

There is uncertainty in how weather conditions will evolve during
the day. Data suggests moderate-to-strong deep-layered shear (50-60
kts from 0-6 km) developing in the afternoon and evening just ahead
of the cold front. Ample forcing will be available. How much low-
level instability is in question as models suggest that low-level
clouds may become trapped below the subsidence inversion, thereby
somewhat limiting surface-based heating and low-level lapse rates.
Nevertheless, with a gusty S to SW wind of 20-30 mph during the
afternoon, this may allow enough warming to permit at least modest
surface/low-level based instability to develop. Models vary but
suggest up to about 1000 J/kg most-unstable CAPE is possible with
200-300 0-1 km storm-relative helicity (SRH). Model solutions all
seem to suggest development of a line of convection (QLCS) during
the afternoon to our west, then racing east late in the day and
Tuesday evening. If the quality of the low-level air mass becomes
sufficient, then a few severe storms could occur with strong wind
gusts and even a tornado not out of the question.

The cold front sweeps through Tuesday night, ending the precip and
ushering in much cooler, windy weather. Winds could gust over 30 mph
behind the front.

Wednesday - Thursday...

Dry weather is expected during this time period. Canadian high
pressure will build into the central U.S. on Wednesday with well
below normal temperatures expected over the OH Valley. Highs should
only reach the mid 40s to around 50, or a good 15 degrees below
normal. As the high settles over the lower OH and TN Valleys by
Thursday morning, lows should be in the upper 20s in many locations,
meaning a frost and freeze appear likely. Highs Thursday afternoon
will rebound into the 50s, but still below normal.

Friday - Saturday...

There is still a favorable signal for more precip Friday night and
Saturday, potentially in the form of snow for some. However,
confidence in precip type is low at this time. There does seem to be
a consensus in the general pattern. A fairly anomalous 500 mb trough
digs southeast over southern Ontario/Great Lakes late in the week.
The 01.00z runs of the GFS and ECMWF both push a cold front through
the Ohio Valley, but the timing difference is substantial. The GFS
is much faster, resulting in quite a bit more cold air advection by
Friday night. The GFS stalls the front over the Tennessee Valley as
another area of low pressure develops to the west and sets up a
frontogenetical scenario Friday night into Saturday. This would mean
a good chance for some snow. The ECMWF delays the wind shift until
Saturday morning, with the bulk of the precip Friday night and
Saturday morning falling with much warmer temperatures. This would
likely mean an all rain scenario. The ECMWF is also quite a bit more
progressive with the actual front, with a strong Canadian surface
high forcing it south. Something to keep an eye on.

Temperatures in the 50s to around 60 on Friday will drop back into
the 40s for Saturday. As for those Saturday morning lows, latest
blended guidance ranges from 30-32 in southern Indiana to the upper
30s near the TN border.

with a band of IFR/Fuel Alternate stratus. Lower ceilings have
pushed south of HNB, but will only slowly ooze south today. SDF

Band of showers over central KY associated with the front will
continue to weaken this morning. Mainly dry weather is anticipated
at the terminals between 13-22z today. Widespread precipitation will
