Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 307 PM EST Tue Dec 25 2018 .DISCUSSION... Currently - High pressure centered over the mid Atlantic is spreading eastward into the Atlantic resulting in moderate to fresh northeast breezes across the Florida Keys, with the strongest winds present on our deep gulf and Florida Straits waters. Stable conditions continue with weakening but still present subsidence inversion and a 10 degree surface dew point depression. Stratocumulus is spreading northwestward from cumulus in the Florida Straits, and has affected mainly the Middle and Upper Keys. Forecast - Surface winds will gradually strengthen and veer more easterly over the next 24 hours as the high continues to build eastward and the high itself is reinforced by a shortwave ridge swinging northeastward over the eastern United States. Expect breezy to windy conditions to set in by morning. The increasingly easterly flow will result in an increase in surface temps to above normal and dew points to climb towards 70. Rain chances will increase through this period due to the increasing flow along with a swath of ample low level moisture moving into the forecast area. This will also be aided by developing good isentropic lift. Breezy to windy conditions will continue into early Friday. The high will then migrate eastward into the Atlantic leaving a weakening ridge across Florida and the Keys heading into the weekend. Winds will slacken out of the southeast fairly quickly Friday into Saturday. Through the weekend, expect slight chance pops at best with above normal temps and moisture. && .MARINE... High pressure centered over the mid Atlantic will strengthen over the next 24 hours, resulting in freshening northeast to east breezes across Florida Keys waters tonight into Wednesday. A small craft advisory will be issued for most Keys waters for these increasing winds. Northeast to east breezes will remain fresh while exhibiting a gradual veering trend towards easterly through Thursday night. Winds will relax quickly Friday into Saturday and clock further southeast as the high shifts out into the Atlantic trailing a weakening ridge across Florida and the Keys.
