Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 320 PM EDT Mon Apr 30 2018 .DISCUSSION... Heights continue to rise through the Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys which support the building anticyclone centered over the Carolina Piedmont. Northeast to east winds have steadily increased this afternoon, now up to 15 to 20 knots. The gradient along the southern flank of the surface high continues to tighten, despite the formidable heating across South Florida. Temperatures are in the mid 80s with dewpoints remaining in the mid 60s. The KBYX radar is echo free and skies are mostly sunny. .SHORT TERM (Tonight through Wednesday night)... A deep and well stacked anticyclone will develop tonight and Tuesday across the extreme western North Atlantic. Breezes will average near 20 knots across the coastal waters, with only slight rain chances. Rain chances will increase Tuesday night through Wednesday night as a relic boundary northeast of the Bahamas slides west along the subtropical ridge. This weak undulation in easterlies will feature rain chances maximizing on Wednesday near 30%. Through the short term, breezes will remain brisk, highs will climb to the mid 80s, and lows will fall into the mid 70s. && .LONG TERM (Thursday through Monday)... An anticyclonic wave break to the east of the Florida Keys will aid in the development of a deep TUTT cell, and inverted trough in the lower troposphere, and the breakdown of the subtropical ridge. Breezes will begin to diminish Friday through Saturday. As steering turns to the northeast this weekend, we will need to reassess convection arriving from the mainland. For now, slight rain chances remain through the long term. && .MARINE... Small Craft Advisory in effect for all coastal An expansive area of high pressure centered over the central Appalachians extends southward down the Florida peninsula. This high pressure system will strengthen and broaden across the western North Atlantic tonight through Thursday. && .AVIATION...
