Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Juan PR 425 PM AST Wed Nov 28 2018 .SYNOPSIS...A generally stable weather pattern is expected to prevail during the next few days with patches of low level moisture moving across the area at times. && .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Saturday... High pressure over Puerto Rico at upper levels will move across the Leeward Islands on Friday and weaken on Saturday. Flow will become southwest tonight during the period. A weak shortwave will cross through the area Saturday night before winds turn northwest again. Mid levels remain very dry through Saturday. The boundary that brought scattered showers yesterday has now weakened considerably. The southerly flow over the forecast area has also served to move most of the cloudiness and sprinkles to the north northwest while the moisture expected to arrive tonight in the southeast extreme of the forecast area is just now entering the Leeward Islands. Thursday is still expected to be the driest and warmest of the next 7 days. The lifted index is expected to be around 2 by 29/18Z with precipitable water below 0.70 inches. This will make it difficult for any showers to form. Moisture at 850 mb moves into the southeast quadrant of the forecast area, but only scattered showers are expected in Saint Croix and fewer in eastern Puerto Rico. But overnight Thursday winds become more east northeast and another band of dry air returns--the dry band that is lodged just south of the next shear line that is expected to approach the area later. Although the patch of moisture that moves across Puerto Rico and the US. Virgin Islands may bring showers to the U.S. Virgin Islands and eastern Puerto Rico early saturday morning, there is another break in the moisture and it looks like Saturday will improve in eastern Puerto Rico. Scattered showers will return to western and interior Puerto Rico on Saturday afternoon. Then another patch of moisture will move through Saturday night for the U.S. Virgin Islands and eastern Puerto Rico. .LONG TERM...Sat thru Thu /issued 504 AM AST Wed Nov 28 2018/ Surface high pressure will drift from the western Atlantic into the eastern Atlantic ocean through the rest of the forecast period. Under this weather pattern, patches of low level moisture will reach the islands each day creating a seasonal weather pattern. Unfavorable upper level dynamic will continue, as the ridge aloft continues through much of the upcoming week. However, the latest model guidance suggested the remnants of a frontal boundary which may provide enough surface moisture to increase shower activity Sunday-Tuesday.
