Moisture over all has changed little but there has been a significant moistening of the levels between 700 and 500 mb. Have made some adjustments to temperatures, but owing to the uncertainty of moisture moving out of the area containing Hurricane Beryl, have left POP and weather grids as they were. Scattered showers are still expected as better moisture moves into the forecast area tonight. && .AVIATION...Brief MVFR conds are psbl in the Leeward Islands and Saint Croix thru at least 07/14Z, otherwise expect VFR conds except with HIR TRRN obscured. Winds will diminish to 5 to 15 kt, but increase again tomorrow to 10 to 20 kts with higher gusts. Maximum winds increasing to 30 kt at both lower and upper levels. Beryl may be shifting slightly farther south then forecast earlier today, but seas will still likely become hazardous. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 440 PM AST Fri Jul 6 2018/ SYNOPSIS...Very dry weather conditions will continue to prevail across the region through Saturday. Hurricane Beryl is expected to weaken as it approaches the local region on Sunday passing south of the area. Numerous showers with thunderstorms and strong gusty winds expected from Sunday night and Monday. Very dry air mass behind Beryl will encompass the region on Tuesday. SHORT TERM...Tonight through Sunday... Partly cloudy skies prevailed across Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands this afternoon. Heavy showers developed this afternoon across the western interior and northwest sections of Puerto Rico. Radar estimates were between one to two inches between Las Marias, Maricao and Lares. Local area remains under the influence of a surface high pressure system which is located across the central Atlantic. This surface high pressure will continue to maintain a moderate to fresh trade winds across the region. This winds will transport patches of low level moisture across the area tonight into Saturday. Rest of the area will remain dry. LONG TERM...Monday through Saturday... Based on the latest guidance, Beryl is expected to move south of Puerto Rico as a tropical storm Monday. As Beryl move closer to the forecast area late Sunday night into early Monday morning, expect an increase in showers and thunderstorms across the forecast area particularly across the Caribbean waters, Saint Croix, south and southeast Puerto Rico. Shower and thunderstorm activity is then expected to spread across northern areas of Puerto Rico as well as the Atlantic waters Monday afternoon. Periods of showers with thunderstorms likely to continue through early Tuesday morning. At this time, it is too early to know exactly the impacts associated with this system as all will depend on the future track and intensity of Beryl. Stay tuned. For Tuesday afternoon and for the rest of the long term forecast, a seasonal weather pattern is expected to return across the forecast area with locally induced afternoon showers and thunderstorms across western areas of Puerto Rico each day.
